Don't want to start a war, but lithium batteries can really be charged up any time you want. They should really last years (some manufacturers claim 20, but that is probably overstated). The battery should last longer then the phone. Nickle metal take about 500-700 before they are toast, and will hold less and less charge cause the cells die. NIMH don't have memory. I have a 3 year old lithium for a t28w that still works perfect, and I have pure abused it in terms of charging. If was a nimh, would have been dead in 6 months.
Never leave a battery on a charger for more then 24 hours, you are over heating it. If the batt is getting real warm, try a different outlet, or remove from outlet after a couple hrs. With a SE batt, their experienced techs will tell you to always charge for at least 1 1/2 hours for a full charge, no matter how much is left.
Also, take the battery off the phone periodically. If you have ever bought regular rechargeable batteries, you will see that the instructions say to take the batts off the charger as soon as charged. Basically, the phone is part of the charging unit, even if not plugged into the wall charger. Leaving on the phone can cause freezes. What follows next comes from an SE phone designer at their US plant in north carolina. She said that because the batts tend to stay on the "charging unit (the phone)" all the time, the batts can get locked in a loop, causing phones to respond strangley, things like freezes or no LCD, so taking the batt off usually fixes this. She also said the explanation may be BS, but it works. I have seen alot of t68m's that the 0 button freezes, nokia 3395's where there is no LCD, but you knwo the phone is on, etc., and taking the batt off almost always fixes the probs.

You're right there. Most of that stuff about recharging applies to NiMH and is obsolete; Lithium-ion is not harmed by this.
However, there are problems with Li-Ion. These occurs when batteries are stored for a long time while still having some charge in them. Apparently, it creates a film of some sort of resistive material on the cells; making the battery effectivly useless for phones. This is what happened to my t28 after not using for one month - completely dead. It is also happening to my laptop. I read there are ways to fix batteries; and even to "rejuvenate" old li-ion batteries to there original capacity by putting resistors over them.

here's something i experienced when charging my T68mi's batt:
1. charging while phone is off -- full charge gives me 290hrs
2. after full charge when phone is on, i turn phone off while phone is still connected to charger -- full charge then gives me 349hrs.
weird eh?
Posted by Dj Boyi
Mine sometimes says 390hr standby;earlier today it said 11hrs 11min talktime, wow!! And i always take it off charge straight after it's charged up,but then it changes rapidly after a few calls or so.
Posted by jcpsad
it seems that it is better to charge your phone on than off... well when its on it says optimized charging when its off it says charging only... is that the difference why?

I found out a Cell Phone
Accessory store that carries wide selection of SonyEricsson accessories.
I recommend you to check them out

Im about to buy a new battery for my t68ie whats the best way to condition it?. Should I charge the battery before using it at all?, and how long should the initial charge be for?.
Posted by jcpsad
they said that you need not drain your battery to charge it... just use your cellphone often and it will increase its battery life...

really ..

hi! my battery is Li-Polymer, and it lasts about 2 1/2 days, do have any suggestion how it will last longer? Charging takes around 3 hrs....not fully drained only till it beeps for low batt then automatically shuts off. (but if you turn it on it still does) So any suggestions?
Posted by jcpsad
keep on using it!

nice advice
Posted by Scottcmh
All the info spread over 4 pages made me quite confused.....so the final verdict is to use till low levels b4 charging, for fear of memory effect..........or to constantly keep it topped up?
Currently, i'm using the 1st 'method' , bcos it seems to be more popular
Thanks all

what about using ur phone while charging is it bad?

it is ok ..

what battery type does the t68i come with?
!snap
Posted by orang3
the white 1 ..
Posted by snap-hiss
no i mean what type is it.. is it a Li-Po ?
!snap
Posted by orang3
yes lit polymer .

dont on your phone all the times while charging !!!!!!
it will damage yor hand phone !!!!!!!
Posted by snap-hiss
I just love everyone's english skills here.
!snap
Posted by snap-hiss
so with that type of battery, the Li-Po it doesn't matter if you fully discharge or fully charge the battery? you can do whatever and it won't shorten the life or damage it?

No one answered my question. With the T68i battery type it doesn't matter if you fully discharge or charge at all? You can do whatever and it'll still keep it's full life?

just charge it when you want .. dont drain it .. or it would be damage
Posted by snap-hiss
So you're saying with the T68i battery type I should just do whatever with it and not let it drain? That letting it drain could actually damage it?

snap - When is it best to recharge the Li-ion type battery?
I think no one else can answer this question better than the company who manufactures Li-Ion cells themselves. (GSBattery)
So take this advice from them:
Lithium ion does not suffer from any ill effects from constant charging. However, in general, it is best to keep the battery charged up when ever possible. You see, battery cycle life is shortened by deep discharging, meaning that if you discharge the battery fully, that has a greater long-term ill effect on the battery than if you discharged it only 50% and then recharged it. The best way to maximize the life of your cell is to avoid deep discharges in general. Best of luck,
David Sugrue
GS Battery (USA) Inc.
hope this is enough to eliminate all the confusion and worries about your batteries

I've got a T68i, with the standard white battery. I use my phone everyday. I charge the phone every night before I goto bed, and I just leave it charging for the 6-8 hours. Most of the time, the charging process starts at half-full tank. I found the battery life is quite impressive, as I tried heavy using it for 4 days, and it still gave me1 hr talk time on the 4th day.

I have revived 3 batteries (fault alarm cases). I found out that the culprit is not the battery faulty but the charging circuit gives fault alarm..
certain charging circuitry use some voltage reference to determine the state(Bad or good) of battery. if your battery voltage level is too low, it will trigger the protection circuit and refuse to charge. This happened to my T28 battery and motorola T191 battery.
What I did was...do manual slow charging with external power supply.
1) Use low current to slowly charge the battery to healthy discharged voltage level (layman -> 'flat' battery) so that the in-built charging circuitry in the HP can continue the charging function . It works for me
Fool proof method
Use +5V source with 100 Ohm resistor
Worst case charging current =50 mA, that is your battery is totally flat(0.2V ~ 0.3V)
Charge it for 15 min, measure the voltage level on the battery..if the voltage is increasing.(e.g 2.5V).your hope is there.., stop the charging, put your battery back to the phone and charge from phone. if the phone is still refuse to charge, repeat the manual charging till the voltage level reaches 3.1V then switch to use the phone to charge the battery..if the phone still refuse to do so...then good luck
Battery or phone charging circuitry dead.
2) Alternative easy way, with no resistor and meter available
Borrow your fren's fully charged up battery(same type)... do a direct connection..that is '+' to '+' and '-' to '-' connection..leave it there for 10 min.. use your hand to feel it..if the problematic battery warm up,yap it receives charges
Now put it back to your phone..and charge it from there...
NiMH has more problems because it uses a series of cells to make up of the package battery(you open your battery up, you will see it)..
e.g 3.6V NiMh battery =3 units of 1.2V cells, if either one cell some how trap in low voltage state, your appliance will declare faulty battery.. in fact, if you could isolate the battery and rescue the cell ..then your battery still can be used for many more cycle before it is totally malfunction.
Have fun...

I've stopped worrying or thinking about battery life & its talk/standby time for now. Just move on and charge it as you use it until the phone/battery dies one day; perhaps at that time there'll be more high tech products then to choose from. --just a thought.

omg this is confuzing

I bought my fones a couple of weeks ago, im pretty satisfied, but now &then d battery only last 4 half day!
Posted by Calvin c",)
@london-devil
What's so confusing? It's pretty simple - if you've got a Li Ion/Li poly type battery, just don't let it drain too often and your battery will last longer.

I`m still confusd, soree for my engishe, is best too charj battery in 2 dimentions or 3 dimentions, i trie chargin in too dimenshon on pc "no efekt" 3 is betta but FOUR would be realy gfeat, haz any 1 else tried it & don`t you get fed up when people come on here just to annoy people by talking shit, sorry everyone but i could`nt resist it....i love this forum, it`s really helpfull.
