I have a suggestion to all, please do not use to call or texting your cellphone while charging.
wait until your battery is full. For your battery safety.
"if you use you phone while charging, this is the beggining of your
battery failure". Its better to turn off your cellphone when charging.

i do exactly the opposite, but can you say what causes you to say this... Have you experienced it...

This is definitely true for phones without the 'smart battery' charging system. If your battery doesn't have that (I think that ericsson was the first company to introduce it if I remember rightly, with the T20 (first lithium battery in a phone!)) then you do need to be careful. Very cheap phones, such as the '3' ZTE F866 I would also be very wary about. I own one of these phones myself, and the fact that it manages to fully charge a 1200mah battery in less time than my
v600i takes to charge a 900mah battery is very worrying. If you own any cheap phones like that - make sure that you turn them off when charging. They don't heat up so much either - and they won't explode due to the high-voltage charging making the phone's mobo go boom!
Basically, be careful - you've got a lot less to worry about with the bigger brands as they have to be a lot more careful with safety tests etc, so if you have a recent nokia,
or moto then your probably fine. I wouldn't trust lg too much though really, or samsung for that matter. They're also not particularly nice phones though! Posted by cammerv8
do you belive when the company sais that the celphone is already charge???
Posted by tranced
I dont case whether it is or not. The phones i've owned were never charged at the beginning. But i do believe they are charged, though the battery gets drained even if the phone's off anyways.
Posted by Horonaim
most phones I've owned were initially charged, but with around 20% left...

well i just piurchased a t68i and i charged it over night. the next day i pressed the volume key up and it said i had 189hours of standby time. what happened to the 390 hours?? and the next day, the phone was already on 100hours. all i did was playu one or two games na dtxt a few people. is the 390hours a lie??
I have some old ericsson phone - I got that in 99 second-hand... Never got a new battery (believe it or not) - it'll still seem usable after 6-8 days on constant standby (i.e. 3-4 bars), but within 2mins of actually use the battery is dead...

why should one not use the phone while charging it? i talk on my k800 all the time while it's on charge, and why? cos' there's this bit at the bottom of the charger that allows me to plug my handsfree in. why would SE make such an 'innovation', if they know that it's harmful for the battery? so unless anyone has any scientific evidence why that harms the battery, i'm sticking to using my phone while charging.
and my battery has been great all along

maybe what they mean is if you never unplug it from the charger, the battery would never go flat therefore 'extending the battery life'? LOL

Go to http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ to get the genuine fact of how to care for your battery. I can see that there is a lot of hear say in this thread, even the initial poster tip is somewhat off.

I can tell you about my experiences. I recently bought a new phone, K610i. I have charged it twice. First time 17 hours and the phone was on, second time 13 hours while the phone was off. Both times after I plugged the wire off, the phone showed battery status 100%. But for example now, after 11 hours of standby time and some calls and some other use it shows 90%.

With lithium batteries, the battery is only charged when it needs charging, it's not constantly trickle charged. So leaving the phone on the charger alot doesn't cause the phone to use up it's limited lifecycle earlier than necessary (this was a problem with older batteries).
Also, when the phone is fully charged, it stops charging until it drops below a certain level of charge. since it only charges when the battery drops below a certain level, if you use the phone while charging, the net affect on battery lifecycle is the same as if you turned the phone off, charged it until full, then used it for the same amount of time. Therefore there is no disadvantage in using it while charging.
For example, the battery drops below say 99% then tops up for a minute, then stops charging until it again drops below 99%. An old style battery would keep charging the whole time. The battery lifecycle is reduced whenever the battery is charging, so lithium batteries don't waste lifecycle charging the battery when it is allready full.
Of course the other important factor with lithium batteries is the absence of memory affect. Becuase they don't suffer memory affect, you can charge them or stop charging them at any point in the charge cycle without causing a memory affect that reduces the effective capacity of the battery (as happens with older batteries).
I charge my battery every night (with the phone on) and throught the day with the usb connection and it's not showing any sign of reduced capacity after 2 years. A NiMH battery would be dead by now with that kind of treatment. Lithium batteries are designed to overcome those old charging issues..

I charged my p990 battery up for the 1st time yesterday till it was full. I played around with it for only say 1/2 hour and it dopped a bit, not a lot but a bit.
Is this normal. I was only looking at the menus and trying to set up a new wlan account.
I didnt think you needed to do the charge and discharge thing with this phone, how have you other p990 owners faired? Could my abttery be faulty?
Thanks

dude the batries usually wear out!! hence u charge yr mobile before using it
this is common
Posted by bavlondon2
Yeah but should it drop a bit so quick after only 30mins of not even light usage?
I thought this was supposed to be a good battery life for this phone. Can bigger capacity batteries be bought for this?
Posted by bodum
it is common, the phone just needs a bit of time before it 'warms up'. a couple of charge cycles and you're good to go...

Thanks for the reply. By charge cycles do you mean using up the battery till its dead and then charging up again?
Posted by max_wedge
No, charging and then using till dead, then fully charging again (deep cycling this is called) is only necessary in the old Nicad batteries.
Lithium batteries don't need to be deep cycled.
A charge cycle refers to a complete charge - but it needn't be all in one go.
Each batteries lifecycle is measured in how many times it can be charged up before the battery is worn out and can take no more charge. Lithium batteries don't need to be deep cycled, so you can count a full charge cycle as a series of small charging periods. For example if you charge the phone every night, and the battery only uses 20% during the day, it will take 5 nights to perform a full charge cycle.

Killing the battery totally and recharging seems
to do the battery good I think

Caring for your battery is very much important. From my motorolla phone manual it says that you can not overcharge your phone. If it is like this, when does the concept of charging a new batery for extended hours come into play. One other thing are these new fake batries that have floded the market. How do we cater for them. You can give them all the attention and care, but they will not respond positively for dn extended period of time. What then can we do with that?

I have a K750i and my battery drains really fast, almost every day.
I bought this phone last week and I am aware that probably i'm spending to much time on him, playing music, making photos or videos, playing games or surfing the web.
But in the past three days i didn't use it so much and the battery hold me for almost full 3 day....
The battery is a Li-Ion original.
Are there any tips on how to reduce battery usage? (e.q. 60% brightness, more on silent mode, playing music with headset on, no wallpaper, so i've heard, that there are some ways)
Posted by shuja91
The Li-on orignal batteries are very good. They work for a long time.
