Wow you guys are having trouble finding it? I guess I'm a bit lucky. I went into my local store (ebgames) a few days after release and they still had 2 copies on the shelf for PS3. Then I went in yesterday and bought a PS3 and GTA IV bundle with no trouble. I guess here in New Zealand its in less demand.
I don't know how far through I am (I'm at university at the moment), but I do know that its annoying me a bit. I mean its a great game, but it definitely is too dark. I'm using an LCD screen, and its probably not the best LCD ever, but quite often its so bad I can't see well enough whats going on and I keep crashing. A few missions near the beginning I kept failing several times in a row just because I couldn't see well enough, and its damn irritating!
I'll try adjusting the colour settings on my TV, but the colours are gonna look all wrong.
I have a few questions:
Does anyone else find it irritating how they've made your health more realistic, and as a result you die really often?
Does anyone else find it hard to find a hotdog stand or food store when you desperately need to health up?
Can you find helicopters or boats anywhere on the first island?
Do you guys know any good places to find good and powerful weapons? I only find handguns and grenades.
How come you get six stars when you go to the other islands? I mean, I know you aren't allowed to go there at the beginning, but what is the reason for that? I think I missed it.
I managed to go to the second island for several minutes with 6 stars by going through the train tunnels on foot. If you want the achievement, that's an easy way. But if you outrun the search area for six stars while illegally on the second island, you get the stars back again.

Well there's no online with pirated PC games either..
IMO the main reason is that no. of PC users are much more than the console ones..thus the rate of piracy is also that much higher, this results in the losses with developing for PC being far greater.

Does anyone else find it hard to find a hotdog stand or food store when you desperately need to health up? - yeah it can be, but i usually just jump in a taxi and get it to take me directly to a burger bar
Can you find helicopters or boats anywhere on the first island? - no i dont think so, unless you get a high enough wanted level so the police copters and boats come after you, you wont be able to steal the choppers,but you can steal the boats(although its quite hard)

Thanks for the replies fellas. I thought I heard something about terrorists on the radio, but I seem to have missed the whole bit about the islands being blocked off because of it!
I managed to find a boat actually. It was a pretty good one too! I found it in the river/bit of water between the two sections of the first island (I guess the first island is actually two islands). It was parked at a jetty on the lower island.

Dicky Snapples idk about you, but is'nt the point to play a game to escape realism? I think all these titles making their games realisic, just makes the game more hard, frustrating, boring and slow. Well thats my opinion any way, don't get me wrong, in a sports game, fair enough, but GTA was made famous and gained all the attention for being, fast and highly unrealistic which made it so damn FUN in the first place.
A game were you could kill a bunch of people and drive of with a frenzy of cops behind you, now, you get shot a few times and you die before you get in a car. Thats not fun at all.
BTW with the ps3, you can spawn a helicopter with the cheats so I flew over the islands. They definately all look very small from an ariel view, San Andreas was definately much larger but not as detailed. It will be fantastic if they revisit San Andreas on the ps3 in a future title, and make it even better like they did with Librety city.

I tend to agree. I preferred being slightly more invincible in previous titles. I'm getting killed with only a one star rating sometimes in this game just because them damn cops only need about 5 shots to kill me. But in other GTAs I'd never get killed with one star and not usually even with two stars. The cover system is great but when you're in the middle of the road with cops on all angles, its hard to find any cover. I just think they've gone a bit too far with the realism. Sure, make it more realistic, but not to the extent that its frustrating!

On a similar note though, I love the way that you can lose your wanted level by driving out of the "circle" and lying low for a while. At least now you have a chance of losing a three star wanted level, something I could never do in the previous games (was it even possible?)

Managed to get one pigeon so far and i've done 3 of the 50 stunt jumps. I'll have a look later as to what percentage i'm on. Last mission i did was "search and delete" then just went for a drive round, bought some molotov cocktails and went a bit mad lol

Upto around 37/38% myself still not unlocked 3rd island but oh well heard its not as good as the other two....
Killed one "flying rat" so far, that was when i was in the mission were you have to retrieve the drugs from the old hospital
Bloody loving this game at the mo not played on it it an insane amount though becoz of the beautiful weather

Haha, no. No parachute, but its a pretty cool experience to take a chopper up to full height above the fake Time Square, then drop out to your death. Its actually worth dying just to try it. Heh heh.

Yes! Its hilarious lol. I'm still on the first island and decided to use the helicopter cheat, flew to the second island, went level with the empire state look a like and jumped out. Watching Niko land with a sickining thud gives you the OMFG feeling. No parachute though.
Actualy landing on the building and jumping of is even more awsome, you go to a great cam angle of you falling of. Try it!

Lol man grenades are great in GTA IV! The added bit of being able to chuck them out your window or aim them properly means they're heaps more fun than previous titles. They make a pretty sweet explosion too!

That happend to me. Was your problem straight after the loading screens? I had the problem for about two days, after the loading screens the game just go stuck were it says "Loading ... (what ever mission your on") Its been fine now fortunately

Yup, used the heli cheat and flew there. At first I thought you had to land on the statue its self. And obviously I just fell and died lol. I finally did it when I accidently fell on the correct floor and went through. Weird Easter Egg
