I heard about this on the radio today. Did anyone else see this? Apparently in Hong Kong a girl attacked her mother with a knife for taking away her cell. When the police arrived they had to subdue her with pepper spray.

Is that the cost of a life now, just an equivalent of a celfone ? ? ? Just what's happenin' in our world now people ? The worst thing in that incident is perhaps the fone is just an Ericsson T10 or maybe a Nokia 636 !
Posted by snap-hiss
It's really disturbing. I heard when the police arrived the mother was locked in a closet and the girl was hacking at the closet door with a knife. That's something out of a horror film.

My mother wouldn't dare take my phone away
But in all seriousness: my god children have absolutely no idea of the proportions of violence anymore do they?

Think it will be worth in the future. Nice behavour, understanding and respect are not the basic of our existence anymore :-( i am really not a pacifist, but a bit more MAKE LOVE NOT WAR era would be welcome. But sadly the headlines of now a days are full with blood and pain. Except here...

no blood and pain here? have you read some of the comments by flamers on here? Some who are no longer with us anymore...
Some of those are pretty bloody and painful

@snap-hiss - So, the mother did not die ? My gosh, I thought she was really killed there - my apologies . . . I was already praying for her soul here (tsk, tsk, tsk).
@vlammetje - Nice follow-up report there! You are also an ideal gal candidate to host such TV 'news/entertainment' show, say, an anchor woman of Saksi (A very famous Japanese news night show-host is like Barbara Walters), The Jerry Springer Show or Tonight! with Jay Leno!

Now, going back to the original topic. Sometimes I am really at awe and asks myself what this celfone thing have contributed to our present lives? Does this bring an advantage or maybe a seemingly negative effect to the populace?
Here in Manila, poor kids try to steal celfone in the public utility buses and jeepneys (smaller than a bus) - they are what you call snatchers! After which, they will be selling those stolen fones at a bargain price, the money then will be spent to buy food for their hungry-ridden families, their parents are already bed-ridden and some already have died. They were the ones left to help their younger kins survive - truly, survival of the fittest! They will risk their lives just to steal one (for each day-they have quotas you know). Some were unfortunately were being killed by the policemen during some short chase etc. Since celfones are the 'fad' in our modern day living, they are the ones that can be sold instantaneously - here, in replacements for cash!

Good thing, she did take the phone. How else she phone the cop. :D

finally... an intelligent remark
@jojo
sad to say that happens a lot here too...
word of advice: never leave your phone on the table while dining out in lumpaland (kuala lumpur, malaysia)
anyone of you caught the documentary "inventions that changed the world" on bbc?
1 of the 5 inventions they discussed was the mobile phone...
truly awe inspiring

@shawo - YES! I guess we are just so unfortunate to be living in the Asian region, where the majority of the 'shrewed/inept' people lives ! I guess it's more worst here than your place? Some of the kids that I made mention in my last post were under the tutelage of the policeman, the law maker is the law breaker here in Manila! They are the ones (police) who teaches the kids who to strike at and where. I have an old story of a friend (real one). He waited for a bus to arrive on his way home from the office, suddenly from nowhere a guy snatched is US$ 1K worth - Tag Heuer watch/chronograph. He was shocked! Then the following day he went to his police friend who's post is very near to the place where the incident occured, he asked for assistance, after a few hours, the very same watch was returned to him - complete (ready to be sold to a potential buyer perhaps). He was very thankful and doubtful as well (to his police friend) - why was he able to retrieve his watch back?
If you live here in Manila, those kind of stories are just of the ordinary/normal. Out of the hundreds of thousands of policemen that we have here, perhaps only around 100 are true to their 'sworn' job !

you live in manila?
have you been to see the envolope?
Posted by *Jojo*
@paulince - Is that the envlope which contains money in it? If so, I still haven't. That only applies to the 'fungus-faced' politicians that we have here . . . . Please expound further . . . I'm running on a low battery now . . . I am an android/robot !
