Hello all!

A few days ago I more or less completed work on my latest game, for the sonyericsson T610/T630 and Siemens S55. Since this is my first game on a mobile phone, I'd like to have some feedback on it. Do you like it, do you like the interface, the game type, etc? I think it's just the kind of game for a phone, but I'm a bit biased of course .

Anyway, if you want to try it, go to http://www.qixis.com (via wap or a normal browser) and try it out. It's free, pretty stable and features 100 levels of puzzle fun!

Edit: Just uploaded version 0.9 - New features:
- Automatically adjusts to screen size, for non-T610 phones
- JAR file is about 50% smaller

Edit: Version 0.91
- Fixed crash when moving blocks on the screen's bottom row

Oh sorry, forgot to mention

A level consists of blocks with a symbol on them. When you move two (or more) blocks together they disappear. The objective is to remove all blocks from a level.

The red square is your 'cursor'. You can move it using the joystick, or the keypad (2, 4, 6, 8 ). Moving the cursor over a block and 'clicking' the joystick (or pressing '5') grabs the block, so you can move it. Clicking again releases it. The first 2 levels are for practice (very simple), after that the real levels start.

yes, it is a bit adictive. reminds me of a similar game where you have to push blocks around in a similar looking screen. can't remember what that one is called though

Posted by Yaesu
Yeah I like it just spent the last 10 minutes playing and it grows on you :-)

Posted by RyaN
cool, cheers i will try later too. It sounds a bit like the game 'Jexed' on my P800.

Posted by Del

Posted by TheRealSpawn

As of version 0.9 (the current one) it should work on any java enabled phone. It's optimized for a t610, but automatically detects screen size and adjusts accordingly...

So far, it's been tested on a T610, P900, Siemens S55, Nokia 6100... No problems on any of those!

Posted by buckle247
It is a good game, looks cool, and is smooth play, even on my ancient F/W.

Only slight improvement that i can see is the first background screen needs an image or colour. Other than that, it is a good game, keep up the good work mate!

Posted by Vlammetje
Yeah it responds really well... no hangs or other problems and damned! it's sooooooo addictive

Posted by Vlammetje
Actually I found one minor bug

It's on the xxxth level (i dunno ) see screenshot

The bottom left item, the one I have circled cannot be moved. If you try to move it this will result in the game shutting itself down. It gave me a message 'Application Error'.

However: if you DON'T move it but move another item towards it, you will be able to continue the game and not get any error mesages

Nice one! Tried it here and I can reproduce it... it doesn't tell me what goes wrong though. I'll look into it. Thanks.

Ta. Fixed already Mixed up some X and Y coordinates in the game...

Any chance we will be seing more games from you in the future ?
You seem to have a good idea of what makes a good mobilephonegame - and I would certainly look out for more games from you.

Great game, my girlfriend has been playing it non stop since you released it, definitely going to keep this one.

Posted by p9hundred
i was playin around with the previous version and it suffered slightly without the automatic size for screen process. the other few bugs have also been ironed out and i have to say that i'm lovin the game like mcdonalds. (tv ad)

thnx 4 sharing and if u want some help in game creation i would like to get involved. let me know.

Posted by masseur
having tried it on the T630 I never thought of trying it on the P900. works fine but I don't like having to control it with the jogdial but I guess thats the price to pay for a multi platform game.

I'll be giving it a good bash later on the P900! thanks!

Posted by Bianca
@Emiel: thanks for the advise, it works great on my e700

Very nice.... fast, reliable, relatively small data.... and boy, is it addictive ?!

If you're hoping for constructive criticism, I did find that the levels don't really cascade in difficulty terms. Also, level numbers would be nice. Also (again) it would be even more challenging if there were a minimum number of moves displayed to complete each level... how more frustrating would that be ??!

If you're not after any form of criticism, then ignore me. It's just my sort of game.

To summarize, absolutely cracking job. Well done.

As promised.... one more screenshot.

It's the bottom item this time that's causing the problem. Btw I'm using version 0.9, so if by any chance you had already addressed this, just ignore me

I do desire everything that "grammo" mentioned, but one more thing would be cool. Don't let us go to the next level, until we've completed the level that we are on. Also, once that is done, at the main menu, make it so that we can choose to go to any of the levels that we've completed.

One thing i've noticed, and i know i'm gonna get laughed at if i'm wrong, but i believe one of the levels is impossible. I think Its the first one that goes diagonally from bottom left to top right. Have a look anyway. Im think someone else mentioned they were stuck on a level. P.s if i'm wrong i'm sorry.

Posted by Vlammetje
Agreed, there is one level I have not been able to clear

Posted by BOOYAR
I think its around about level 13

I think I may be able to add touch-screen control without breaking compatibility with other phones. I've also done exit16 on the pocketPC and Palm and there it's the only way to play it and it plays very quick with touchscreen and stylus.

The difficulty not going 'up' is a problem I'm aware of. Every version I do of the game I rearrange the levels, but somehow I never seem to get it right. It's very difficult to estimate how hard a certain level is once you know how to play it. I've seen people get stuck on level 4, yet do the mouse pointer shaped one with ease... (I found the mouse pointer horrible, and level 4 rather easy)
Level numbers is a nice feature I'm certainly planning to add. I don't like the idea about having to complete a level in a certain number of moves, it may make the game a bit too frustrating (knowing the solution to a level, just not doing it efficiently enough)

I believe that's also fixed in 0.91

A level selector at the main menu is a feature I'm planning to add to the 1.0 version, as is storing which levels are completed. I think I will keep the possibility for a user to choose any level he wants, so a level can be skipped if he gets stuck.

I believe all of them are possible to complete, but you are right that some levels seem impossible. Sometimes it's allowed to have 1 or 2 tiles remaining and the level still shows up as complete. I plan to check and fix these levels for a 1.0 release. In the diagonal level (level 14) the player is even allowed to have 2 tiles remaing.

Why is this so? The game exit16 is quite old. I originally made it in basic on my amiga computer, but over the time, everytime I got myself a new gadget I couldn't resist porting it to it. Every version is a bit better than the last: better levels, better level order, etc, but some old bugs remain (mainly in the levels, as they are a lot of work to fix, and design). The phone version is the first version I released to the public, and so far the feedback from all of you is proving very helpful. All the positive feedback is a very good reason for me to continue work on it and make it as good as possible

I have an iPAQ 4150, would you care to let me know where I can download it from?

thanks again!

At the moment the pocketpc version is not ready for download. It's not nearly as much finished as the java version I did for the phones.

Posted by Vlammetje
version 0.91

Upon completion of this level the game shuts itself down AND resets itself to level 1 I finished in the right bottom corner.. if that helps

Repeated and now it shut itself down 2 blocks from finishing the level when in the left top corner and game is reset t level one

Posted by Emiel
You're too fast. I haven't built the end yet, so it just wraps back to level one once it's complete . Sorry if it annoyed you...

Currently I'm working on the levels. I've dropped some I don't like and again changed the order in which one plays them. This means I won't be updating it for the next week or so, since nothing changes in the code.

(edit: I see it crashes with an application error upon completion... that's a bad thing and something I will have to fix.)

They did excatly the same with one of my games at that site, they reversed engineered it and translated it into spanish. I found all my source code splattered on the forums, fortunately though I had obfruscated it first so it was harder to understand and hack.

I don't care so much about the source code (heck, people can have it if they ask nicely), but I'm not so happy about them not asking permission to distribute it...

I'm still working on the 1.0 version by the way. Normal work and other things cost a lot of time, so it's not proceeding as quickly as I'd like it to . Haven't forgotten about it!
