I have set up my e-mail on my sony T610 using IMAP. I can send e-mails to my account. When I try to recieve e-mails I get the message "No new messages" even though I know there are some. I am an ornage subscriber in the uk. Both AOL and Orange could not help me with this matter.

What r the settings ur using?

This is taken from the AOL help pages:-

The basic setup for access to the AOL IMAP servers is fairly simple and is common to all the applications.

Incoming email server address: imap.uk.aol.com

Outgoing email server address: smtp.uk.aol.com

The incoming email server is an IMAP server. You will have to ensure that your email application supports the IMAP protocol and will have to select IMAP (not POP3 or HTTP) at some point during the setup process.

The smtp server requires authentication - this means that in order to send an email you must log in with a user name or password to the smtp server. The user name and password are the same as your AOL Screen Name and AOL password.

Please note the following AOL email features are not available:

--There is no Recently Deleted Email folder. Email is marked ready to be deleted in the Inbox or Sent Items folders and then deleted by the AOL IMAP servers every night. Some applications show deleted email in the original folder with the deletion flagged (such as Outlook or Eudora), while other applications do not show these emails.

-- You will not be able to check the status of, or unsend email to, other AOL members using IMAP.

-- The Report Spam Feature is not available.

-- AOL IMAP servers do not allow folders to be created or deleted in the root folder. You will see an Inbox, Sent Items, Saved, Spam and Voicemail folder. The Voicemail folder cannot be accessed and should be ignored.

-- You cannot manually add messages to the Inbox or Sent Items folders. Messages will only be added to these folders when an email is received or sent by the AOL IMAP server.

what ports should b used for aol? i cant get it working: just says connecting...

I had already set up as per the IMAP details and have done the same via outlooks express (which works).

I am able to send e-mails from my mobile as if they are bieng sent from my aol account.

The only problem is that when I send and recieve the written e-mails are sent, I am then told my e-mails are downloading but after this process none are download and I get the message 'No new messages'. This is even when I know i have e-mails in my inbox.

Both orange and AOL are able to advise why. I can not work this out as all the setting are correct.

For AOL and the IMAP protocol
The incoming port is 143
The Outgoing port is 25

I had the same problem and gave up in the end! I access and send email though aol via was now. You can register on the aol site then use the link as a bookmark. Hope this helps. Daz

Check the 'Connect using setting' on the account that you have set up to connect I use either "ornange GPRS Internet' or 'Orange GPRS'.

the only solution for me: use a dial-up connection!
