IR!
Definitely!
Of two reasons:
1) you don't have to connect a cable every time - just activate IR on the phone and place it in front of the sensr - Voila!
2) With IR you can sync different things (cameras and handhelds) - you don't have to buy and connect one cable for each.
Good luck buddy!

Umm I use the Blue tooth for my laptop its not that expensive and yeah. Otherwise I would use Infer red.....

ah true ... ir is probaly the most versatile...

as for ir .. sometimes you will have problem connecting it .. like when i sync my t68 with my laptop ..it just cant transfer data over .. and i have to restart my com and hp ...

no such problem with bt

And :bt: would be cool! Plus, theoretically it's faster than IR or cable - and most expensive option among the 3.

At least according to the specifications in the manual, the IR link is about 10 times faster than the serial cable. Besides that, the IR is far more universal and may be used to connect to many other things, even other phones. The non-galvanic connection that the IR ofers is a plus too, since there is lesser risk to damage the phone.

I use the iR on my laptop now too and its as easy as saying 123... unless youve had a few drinks... well.. a few barrels of booze.. then i doubt you'd be awake anyway

@asif20, i see that you've made a decision. but anyway, the serial cable has it's advantages:
a) drains battery less, much less (in my experience T68 connected to DRS-10 lasts for 16 hours with calls and SMS in between, with IrDA, less than an hour)
b) you can position the phone anyway you want, cable length permitting. very useful in areas where signal is not good enough and positioning your phone to be in front of your IrDA window is totally useless cause you can't get a signal
c) Try answering the phone, or making a call while connected to GPRS. Unless you have a bluetooth headset, it's impossible without breaking the IrDA connection
d) How about reading SMS and composing SMS while you're connected, hah, with IrDA, you'll break the connection, again
e) If your desktop does not have IrDA, then you need to buy an IrDA adaptor (USB, serial or whatever) as an additional expense
f) IrDA is faster? Come on, you need to lower the speed sometimes to as low as 9,600 bps to make it work
g) You've got Windows XP, then cable provides much, much more reliable connection than IrDA
these are my personal opinion. to each his own.
cheers

That is good points.
And it comes down to how and when you will use the connection.
I got both
and it would prolly be a better choise for me often but

I bought an IrDa recently, I use it with Windows XP, I haven't had ANY problems whatsoever and I can use my phone while connected to check sms or so. It's really fast and handy and works with all I R things!!! Love it!!!

@dw, cool factor, you're right. i also have Anycom BT card.
@arroyootje, maybe you mis-interpreted what i said. of course you can still make/receive calls with Ir, but how do you do that? you don't *pick up* the phone and lose the line of sight with the Ir windows? if you have a bluetooth headset, fine (which adds cost, again) same for SMS, how do you reply conveniently to an SMS message without picking up the phone and still maintain line of sight with the Ir windows. well, i could always, punch in SMS inconveniently while the phone is on an Ir session by going behind my notebook (that's where the Ir is) and try to key in the message without breaking the Ir connection
cheers.

okay! naliwanagan na ko! I'll also go for the IrDA simply because it is much cheaper than the data cable

4 smal letters...: I R D A
a) Using an usb-infrared adapter (i am) is much much easier than the cable. (I got the money back for my dcu-10 - which covered the entire expense of an adapter).
b)The connection to the phone is much more stable using IrDA. The cable is bulky and irritating to carry arround with a labtop.
c) Setting up the connection to the phone is as easy as 1-2-3. I spend 2 weeks finding out how to setup the cable/connection software proporly, and I know that I wasny the only one. I counted 6-7 poeple having the same porblem while trying to find a solution on Esato.
d) If you ever just CONSIDER buying a MCA-20 (i highly recommend it - great quality) either an IrDA or bluetooth connection is required (you can't SEND from the phone using the cable).

can i use the data cable to connect to my phone as gprs modem?

What is the best to use with a T300? I thought I read somewhere that the cable doesn't work with this phone. I could be wrong though...

Can an ERICSSON T68 USB DATA CABLE be used to send pictures from the phone to the PC?
Thanks

IR port is the more versatile and flexible..
In larger context..you can use it to communicate with any other IR equipped devices.
Last time, I used logomanager for nokia phone..and now I don't use nokia phone but my IR still come in handy..switch to Ericsson..no sweat...no need to invest on the proprietary cable..
The worst of phones is the connectors ..all proprietary cables ...
