Singtel Problem:

A couple of days ago, I got one of the those "spam" SMS from $ingtel, an advert for some of their IDD services. Then 10 mins later I got the same message again, 10 mins later again etc. In one hour I got that damn message 7 times. I called them after the 3rd one, telling them I didn't have to receive $ingtel ads via sms. I was told it could only be effective next month!!

Anyways, more sms's later I call them again. Tell em I keep getting this damn sms and I want it stopped. After much checking I was told the sms was still listed as pending on their server, that I needed to reset the line (power off/on the phone) and it would be ok. Did that. I wasn't "ok"

At least now the freq of sms was now one every 2 hours or so. I called them back, spoke to the same guy. He did more checking, asked what phone I had. According to them their is some problem with the T68i on $ingtel, that they have told SonyEricsson regarding this and that I was to update the software on the phone.

I had my m->i conversion for about a week plus at this stage and nothing happened like this before from sms's from friends etc, just their spam. At that stage I was running the latest version R2B025, but now there is a later version.

Anyone else got some problem like this?

Posted by mrbunglez
hmmm... i haven't received any spam from them in a long time... usually i get spam when i'm roaming with my singtel line overseas... did you opt-in for some spam program or anything? this sound really freaky, i'd be real pissed if they did the same thing to me man...

Hello im just wondering is english the main language in Singapore?
This migh be a very stupid question sorry!

Is it true that it is illegal to use gum in Singapore?

Posted by adnhk1
Hi there, ermmm, No and Yes I guess, as even though Engish is the main language in Singapore schools, the majority of us still speak in Mandarin (which is supposed to be 2nd language here), or some other dialects.

Do you mean chewing gum? Well, sad to say, its a definite YES, it is banned here, because the 3 million population here are "little kids", hope you know what I mean.

Posted by TonyG

Hi Jason, from what you have discribed, it is definitely a clear cut it is the network provider problems. That is Singtel. Imagine there are a lot of us carried the T68m and T68mc upgraded version and the original T68i. How come we were not affected. As mrbunglez question is correct, have you opt for some promotion or some info that required the sender to sms to you? If not and you are really pissed of with this kind of "services", write to them officially demand an explaination or published it in the media forum. Then they will wake up.

Alternatively, you can send down to SESC for a checking, and tell them Singtel said it is the phone problem that your phone can anyhow accept span sms. Get a second opinion to support your complain.

Nope i dont understand what is wrong with littel kids having helthy teeth?

Posted by cyano75
I got the damn Singtel 'Spam' too! It's been 2 days already. I received about 18 SMS on Sat.. but only about 2 on Sun. My s/w is m -> i R2B025.

Posted by mrbunglez
bjerbeken>> its not illegal to chew/consume gum here. what is illegal is selling it. the reason this whole ban came about was because some idiot stuck gum on our underground train's doors and caused a lot of trouble... so our local politicians bruoght up soemmore examples like how gum is disposed inappropriately, usually stuck somewhere like beneath tables or stuck on the floor.. and decided to ban it.. man was i pissed when i first heard of it... but most of us just bring it in from overseas... hope that clears it up...

all those in singapore, i heard they're gonna have new SE phones for display at CommunicAsia 2002! models such as the T200 and T300 and etc will be available for viewing! will try to take pics if i can..

I have a T68 mc and wants it upgraded to T68ic. Unfortunately, the SE office in my country said that they will not support this service. My mom and sister are both coming to Singapore this week but will only be staying from the 17th to the 20th of June. Can they just go to Kallang to have the mc upgraded to ic? How much is the fee? Tony G, is the mc to ic upgrade really available already? I dont want my sister to waste her time going to SE if its not available since they're there for a business trip. By the way if anyone from SE Singapore gets to read this, please convice our local SE office to support the mc to ic upgrade. I dont understand why the local chinese community with mc units dont get support here. Im not asking for too much, right. They can just download the software to service to us. A minamal fee wouldnt be too much.

Posted by dan47
Weird, is there any T68IC? all i knw is t68m to t68i and t68mc to t68ie; even checked se hmpage and theres no such IC, can u guys post the se homepage link of the ic? Thanks

Posted by TonyG

MFB>- Actually we had the "ic" sw available. But due the "ic" sw had some problems with our network, SE Singapore decided to temporary shelve the idea of upgrading of "ic" software for "mc" holders till they came out a salution with our network providers. However it won't be long. I think SE Singapore had solved the problems lately. As one of our forum members huni had posted the releasing of the "ic" sw upgrading will be next week. It is just the right time that you are here. You can go to our SESC and tell them you are a foreigner and willing to pay for the charges for the upgrading. I see no reason they will reject your request. If you have any problem, you can post to me in this forum when you are here and I will try to help you out if within my means.

dan47> It is just make people more easy to understand that "ic" is a Chinese versions. However, SE Singapore and SESC recgonised "ic" is the Chinese sw.

Nah I didn't opt in for anything, which is what pisses me off. Obviously considering I am not from Singapore, I use IDD a little bit so I guess they know my user profile and sent me these IDD ads via sms.

What I don't understand is how this is a phone problem. Never happen with sms from friends, just with this SPAM from $ingtel. Are they trying to tell me R2B025 likes SPAM so much it actively keeps requesting the same sms again and again?? Yeah right.

Bascially $ingtel decide to send spam to you, without asking for your permission, and when you call to have this stopped, it takes a month to remove you from the SPAM lists.

I called them numerous times over this, and at that stage I was using (as far as I knew) the latest software version in my phone R2b025. When the guy asked me to upgrade, I told him I cannot, using the latest liao. This conversion went on for a bit, and I was getting damn angry, and asked since I am using the lastest software, and it "seems" to be a t68i problem on $ingtel, then the only way for me to stop this is to change networks, and the guy say yes

Got speaking to the manager after that, told them I wanna terminate the line, and since I am under contract this would involve a charge, and told them I ain't paying since I am not terminating coz I want to, but that they have a problem which would force me to. Manager asked for time to sort it out.

Haven't got that SPAM in 24hours so hopefully resolved liao. Waiting for manager to call back.

I thot the main language in Singapore is Singlish ??

Singapore has four offical languages, and English is the main one. Most people can speak english here, so if ya come for a visit you'll have no problem being understood.

Thanks for the offer Tony G. I appreciate your quick reply. You mentioned that it will be available next week. My sister is already there in Singapore and will only be staying till the 20th. I told her to go to Kallang instead. As I've read in this forum, its the best service center available in Singapore. Can you please confirm if it is available so I can advice her? By the way, how do you get to Kallang if you're coming from Orchard? Are the problems by the first mc to ic conversion a network related problem? Maybe it wouldnt be the same here with our local network Globe. Would you know what the problems are? Looking forward to your reply.

MFB>- Good news to you and to all "mc" holders. From today onwards
SE had officially released the "ie" or "ic" sw for upgrading. All "mc" holders can pursue to either Kallang SC or Goldhill SC for the upgrading.
The problems had been rectified. SE did not disclose what are the problems even the SC do not know. This is between them and the network providers. Sorry MFB, I do not know how to go by bus to Kallang. However I can suggest you can take our local MRT to Novena Square Station and walk diagonally to the opposite site of the Novena Square just beside the Shell petrol station and go to the GoldHill SC. You do not have to go all the way to Kallang SC. BTW, just wish to highlight to you, the upgrading charges will be around $103 for foreign or non IDA approved handphones. Call them to check on the charges again before you go down. Good Luck.

cheers!

Posted by TonyG

Ah_Seow>-Sorry to say that you have to go and dl the sw from SESC again. Guys, pls remember what ever you do to your phone, DON'T ever touch your master reset. Or else, everything inside your upgraded sw will "Gone with the wind". By the way, all upgraders will notice that our message alert tone is very soft. SE Singapore has already noted and try to rectify this problem. We may need to have another sw upgrade. Hopefully they can give us muti-choice on the alert tone.

Hey guys, i've just joined this forum. Just got myself a T66 and also upgraded it to 453 R2B. Its great! 5 lines of text is so much better than the original 3 lines (ver 426).

Got a question though, does the data cable work for T66? can i connect the T66 to my Palm Vx for internet purposes? I used to do it with my 8210 via IR. Is the DRS-11 cable usable on T66?

Oh yes, anybody knows anywhere in Singapore that sells good priced SE accessories?

Many Thanks!!

Regards.

Can i konw what is the latest software for T68i???

Hey Guys, had anyone attended the CommunicAsia 2002? If you do,
you can see SE had introduced their latest handphones and accessories in the exhibitions. From T200 - P 800. MCA 25 communicam
to HBH 30 Bluetooth headsets and Chatpen. They also giving away SE tie pin and SE handphones master cataloges for souvenir. Besides there are others hanphones manufacturer participating. I heard on the last day they are openning to publics. I can't confirmed yet. But they should infact open to the publics, or else how do they let us know which are their latest prouducts to be launched. If they do open to public, don't miss this opportunities.

ohh .. really.. i will ask my friend to go down ... by the way when is it open to public ..??

Posted by Ah_Seow
jus got back from ComunicAsia...
hehehe... i tested the P 800... oh my god... seriously cool gadget... now with the sony memory stick it can play MP3 and Mpeg on it... but i think the final software is not completed yet... still have some faults... but i bet i will buy it when it launched at end of 3 Q hmmmm... but the hp with the a built in camera that work the best for me in color, resolution and display is the GD 88 from panasonic... but i it's a flip phone so i dun really like it and panasonic dun offer good software interface...

The sonyericsson t600 is really cool if u re not intending to get a color hp... the design is sleek and its so metallic... i like it alot too... this hp give me a Pager size hp feeling... so nice... dun really like the t300 and t200 cos not must improvement... the t300 is like a t68i with poly ringtone... and a frame to choose from if u wanna take a pic of someone with ur communic cam just like taking Neon Print... I tried the HBH 30 as well.... the design is sleek... got this rubbery touch... hmmm very flexible... a big improvement from HBH 15... cos they shifted the battery of the headsat to the back... hmmm this i dunno how to explain... Just say its good...

Checked out the chat pen as well... the chat pen will onli work with Digital paper... just like normal paper with small dots on it... the chat pen will work well for those of u who work as insurance agent... etc... since u can get ur cilent to sign with it and send it to ur pc....

HMMM this yr and last yr CommunicAsia Nokia nd Motorola didi not take part... so i cant really compare the hp models between the companies... Anyway... SonyEricsson did catches most of my attention with their gadgets... and free downloading of screensavers to my T68mc.... Hope u can correct me if u find fault in wat i say

Ah_Seow>- I think it is very identical to our lunar grey T68 isn't it? Except the top head part. But I still like the design cover of our T68. The T68i cover top part is a bit squarish and does not look so attarctive. Not as nice as the T68 semi- rounded head. It looks more balance.

hehehe now i must plot to steal that copy of catalog from my friend hehehe... WORLD PEACE

TonyG & Ah_Seow -> if t68i will come out in grey colour, how abt the batt ?? will SE change it to the rubber batt like t68 ??

Posted by orang3
ohh ok .. i will keep a look out ..

Posted by TonyG
You have raised a very good question dairin. From what I have known it will remain the same plastic design like the first batch of T68i. But it will have the same contour color to match the phone designed color. Perhaps it can use the T68 rubber effect battery for the new T68i if the designed color is the same as the T68 lunar grey or in dark color.

TonyG,

Please advise me as soon as possible the nearest Sony Ericsson Service point from Grand Copthorne Hotel. My sister leaves tomorrow and she needs to upgrade my t68mc to t68ie. The taxi cabs in their hotel area said Golden Hill is too far out and wont take them their. I hope you can give me the address and if possible directions on how to get their from the hotel.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

MFB

MFB,

It is required by our law that all taxi's in Singapore must sent their passengers to their destinations no matter how far or how near it is. They have no right to reject. If your sister is staying in Grand Copthrone Waterfront ,that is at Havelock Rd, GoldHill Service Centre is the nearest to the Hotel. In Singapore there are only two SE Service Centre who will do the upgrading only. One is at GoldHill and the other one is at Kallang. All SE Service Points do not have the facilities to do the upgrading. From your sister Hotel, GoldHil Plaza is still the nearest. However I will give you the Kallang SC address too if you decided to ask your sister to go there.

SonyEricsson Service Centre (Mobile Technology Asia Pte Ltd)
50, Kallang Pudding Road
05-02A
Golden Wheel Industrial Building
Singapore

Tel:67440733 67497717 67494457

If you have problem again pls write to me again.

Hi Tony,

Are you sure that only Kallang and Goldhill can do the upgrading of the T68 to T68i? Because the people in hardwarezone.com say that other SE service centers also can do this. Now I dunno who to believe.
