you can look at the shops near sim lim square or in lucky plaza in orchard road. you just ask them if they offer international warranty.

I guess that I'll be "in the market" for a new T68i while in SG because I think that my phone is "locked" to AT&T Wireless so Singtel warned me that I might not be able to use it in SG! Any suggestions on where to buy an "UNlocked" T68i in SG?

The phone is not "locked" to the network per se, but the sim card. This means you can only use a SIM card form AT&T. However the phone will still work in Singapore if you plan to use the AT&T sim card but via autoroaming. If you autoroam, you can connect to a Singapore network even if your SIM is locked to AT&T.

Hey all Singapore T68 users. I have upgraded my sw to R2D005, for those who have not upgrade your sw, you all can go to the SC for upgrading. It is free!

Posted by JasonDeFaoite
I'm still using R1B, gonna wait for the big one before upgrading, that way i see even more of an improvement, and have more to complain about just in case they decide to charge for the big one :-o

what is the diff between R2B013 with ur R2D005 ??? got anything new ... pls share with us so we can decide to upgrade or wait for mms software to come on week 20(hopefully)

Posted by clody
Oh so is there an upgrade for the T68i in Singapore? They say its free if you have a warranty card.

Posted by dairin
SE website said it will be on week 20 but not all market will have this upgrade so let's cross our finger

According to the SE SC Technical Mgr, he said that this sw is to enchance the clarity of the sound for both parties listening and also "killing" some bugs in the sw to minimise the hanging of the phones. The major sw downloading is to enable using the chatpen with the phone in the near future when chatpen has been introduced. So sorry I am not too literate on the handphone things but I just told you all what he had told me. And he told me that all T68mc cannot accept MMS upgrading unless we are going to sacrifice the Chinese version and change the sw to T68m only.

Posted by dairin
so did SE SC Technical Mgr tell u anything abt the MMS software ??
i mean abt when it will be released in singapore and the cost of it if they are charging us for that upgrade??

My question:
BUT, I don't want to roam via AT&T Wireless (they don't offer roaming in SG anyway) because I don't want to use my US phone number. Instead, I was hoping to subscribe to a Singaporean carrier while I'm in Singapore so that I would have a local Singaporean number. However, Singtel warned me that I wouldn't be able to use my phone if it's locked! Am I missing something here?

Yes, I did chase him on the MMS upgrading. He told me Singapore SE
will not release the MMS sw so soon. This is due to they want to launch the T68i first. If they allowed the upgrading of the T68 to MMS version now, than all of us will buy the T68 for free upgrading than buying the T68i. Because the T68 price will be definitely cheaper than T68i. So who wants to buy the T68i then?

Sorry I forgot to answer your question dairin, He told me the T68 launching in Singapore till now is less than a year, so it is still under warranty, therefore the upgrading should be free. So far he did not received any instruction from SE Singapore yet on the charging.

If they SE does not give us the upgrade in singapore before launching the T68i, I dont think that anyone will want to buy another SE mobile phone anymore! Because the support is BAD and they are only thinking of selling T68i and not supporting existing costomer.

Anyway I think that most people will definately buy T68i rather then buying a T68m and upgradding it. So I dont think that SE will have to worry about anything. Personally T68i looks much better then T68m.

Well, this is their marketing stratergy. Normally new customer will get better benifits than old customer. Take one of our service provider, they always give good benifits, good terms and conditions to attract new customers. They did not take care of their old loyalty excisting customers. This is marketing man.

As to decide to buy a T68 and upgrade or to buy a new T68i is depended on individual thinking. Some are cost concious. They do not mind about the outlook of a handphone as long as they can get the same function and at a cheaper price. Why not. But of course there are some people would like to get the latest models in regardless of the pricing. That is the reason a lot of the handphone manufacturers
keep pushing out new models with new functions within a few months later after they had launched their previous models to attract these people.

If that is the case you can't. You can buy the local prepaid SIM cards which you can top up, and that would give you a local number. But in that case you are changing your phone sim card ... and that AT&T (if the phone is locked) will not allow you to do.

You can check to see if your phone is locked by using the >*< <*<* keypad tap on your T68 and check the SIMLOCK info. If all the padlocks are open you are ok ... phone not locked Good luck!

Epedemic.. thks ...

Anyway does anyone know where they sell cheap original T68 batteries? or even better, sell T68i batteries.

As I suspected, the Network SIMlock is locked! BUT, the others (Network subset, Service provider, & Corporate) are OPEN! What does that mean?

Posted by nnyd999
orang3 yes kallang pudding

Posted by nnyd999
clody good idea because i think you will have ploblem upgrading it next time

Posted by amlim
orang3 - your phone is not locked since you bought from m1 as iDA doesn't allow locking of mobile phones sold in singapore. the fact that you can use your starhub sim card proves that. look at the padlock icon closely and you will see that it is open instead of being closed at the top.

dairin - the blue velvet case came with the early batches of the t68m / mc. it is just a small drawstring pouch for you to keep the t68. nothing extraordinary so you didn't miss much.

Posted by orang3
amlim---->do you mean the lock is not totally joint.. and there is a no. 5 beside ...
by the way do you have the blue velvet case ..??

orang3-> so the blue velvet case is just a small drawstring puch, i think this kind of pouch u can get it from those handphone shop for abt $4
i dunno if that blue pouch got ericsson logo or not

Posted by TonyG

Yeap, amlim is correct. IDA do not allowed our phone to be locked as this is to prevent our individual Network Provider (NP) or service provider (SP) to take control of their customer and do not allowed them to change other NP if they feel that the present NP is no good.

And I have noticed that a lot foreigners like to buy handphone from here it is because of the handphone is not lock and they can use in their country and change NP if they like to.

the blue thingy hasn't got the \\\ logo no...
