JasonDeFaoite>- This morning I went down to SESC and make some noice by saying that they gave me the wrong info in regards of the the LCD screen. By George, under the LCD screen there really have two flourescence bulbs located at the left and right side of the screen.
The SESC Tech Mgr personally open up a T68i handset and let me see it. He even used an electrical equipment and test it in front of me. When he lighted up one of the bulb the other bulb was not on, one part of the screen showed some black patch. This is exactly what MFB had described to me on his handset problems. So he explained to me that LCD screen had two metods to light up the screen. One is using CLP (Which is called luminous plate method, I think this method is the one that you told me.) And the other one is using bulbs. The T18 and T28 is using this method. The disadvantage is, it will draw a lot of current from the battery. Unlikewise the T68 and T68i now is using flourescence blubs, not only it is brighter and it also save battery life. However without your comments, I won't be able to have a chance and see how it works. Still I have to thank you for it.

Hi Tony

Thanks for the info, but I believe those bulbs are for the backlighting only.

I think so too Jason. You are such a literate person in handphone. Must salute to you.

TonyG,I just read your post regarding the bulb issue. So is my unit's display really defective? I just came from Semicon(Phil official distributor for SE Phils) 5 hrs ago

Posted by MFB
There was an error on my previous post. Does anyone need a T68i phone driver for BT

Posted by TonyG

MFB>- From what you have described and the Tech Mgr of SE
had done a demonstration to me on a T68i , I guess 90% is this problem. As I have mentioned, still you have to send to yr SE for a physical checking to confirm. It maybe also due to your LCD problem.

This post was posted from a WAP device

what is this T68i phone driver for BT youare talking abt ?? i dont get it pls explain ..

Posted by MFB
Sorry about that. Somehow my messages are cut short when its sent thru the blazes browser of my palm. The phone driver for the T68i im talking about is for the palm m500 series. Only the t68m driver is currently available from the palm site. An acquaintance beamed it to me. He acquired it from PALM prior to its official release. I just thought some palm users out there needs it too. By the way it includes support for ir and bt.

Tony G, Does it mean all units with dark LCDs at the bottom

Posted by MFB
Does it mean 90% of the units there are defective? What does your local SE say about this?

Posted by TonyG

MFB,

You got me wrong, what I mean 90% it is more confirmation on the bulb or the current supply on your phone had problem. Not 90% of the phone had this problem. If the LCD had broke down that means your screen will totally have no image at all. So it is not so much of this fault. But yours is only appeared black shady image at some part of your screen. Therefore I am saying it is likely to be one of the bulb problem. Either the bulb in your phone had blown off or insufficent of transmitting the current to you bulb.

Very interesting. Does this explain why if you switch your phone on and off many times, it drains the battery life (you end up with less talk time than if you left it on!)
The flourescent bulbs definitely save battery power while running .. vs a normal bulb, but you remember the older type of flourescent tubes, you used more energy switching it on then you did running it for an hour. Those newer energy saving bulbs supposedly don't suffer from this .. wondering what type is in the T68

Posted by TonyG

Guys, I need your feed back. Any upgraders upgrade your HP to R2E sw and had subscribed to GPRS had this problem. The GPRS signal may just disappeard and left with the blue outline only on your handphone. And you have to switch it off and on again than the full signal will come back. Anyone got this problem? Thks in advance.

I dunno if this one have been asked before here, everyone is talking abt sending background and ringtones thru IR but do anyone try before to send all this using bluetooth, what i mean is sending from one phone to the other phone using bluetooth ??

is it possible to use an animation pic as background ??

Posted by tegicT9
Hi Dairin,

Re: sending BG pics & melodies via BT

No problem wif such method as long as the other phone is within range (<10m). The only thing is, you require to search for a response from the other phone first. When you see the other party on the list, juz click & send. Simple & straightforward cos you dun need a "line of sight" as wif IR.

Hope I answered your querry.

Posted by tegicT9
Sorry, forgot to address your 2nd question.
Animated gif can be saved as BG but only the 1st frame appears, i.e. static pic only.

Posted by dairin
tegicT9-> thx for ur answer but i just wanted to know do anyone here tried that method (bluetooth) to send and is it successful ??

Hi TonyG,
know that you are having the upgrade T68mc->T68ic. Was wondering if now the phone is capable of T9+Chinese txt Input? Or anyone having the T68ic upgrade can advise here?

Posted by TonyG

maxxum,

Yes, I have T9 English + Chinese text input in my upgraded T68ie or "ic" in our language.

Sorry maxxum, I forgot to tell you I am using it very conveniently on both languages. Especially you can even using Chinese language to put into your phone book which I did not discover when it is in my T68mc. Or maybe it cannot be done. I can't tell now.

BTW, for those who are going to buy new T68 hanphones, just a little tip, make sure do check it whether it had already upgraded. Than you can save your money sending down to the SC and paying for the upgrading. SESC is now doing the upgrading for those brand new T68m and mc models.

Hi TonyG,
I'm holding on the T68mi, which does not have the ability to enter chinese input to the phone. I'm wondering if I can upgrade my firmware to the T68ic to have the Chinese input, you got any idea if this can be done?

Posted by TonyG
Hi Maxxum,

I'm afraid not Maxxum. Formerly you can convert your T68m to T68mi or vice-versa without any problem. With this new sw, they can only regconised your original sw in the phone. Let me quote you an example. My was a T68mc phone and I converted to T68m sw due to I have to use a lot of English language for SMS. Of course I have to sacrisfice my Chinese language in my phone. When I upgraded my T68 to "i" sw, the new sw automatically converted back to my original mc series which became T68ie instead of T68mi. That means all my T9 English in my phone was gone and got back all my Chinese language. Luckily the "ie" sw now had T9 English input. So, now all "mc" handphone holders had one plus point over 'm" holders is they have T9 English in the sw. And T68mi remains do not have Chinese language input same as the T68m. The T68mi can only accept Chinese language for reading purposes.

yes i know .. but is it for the sms or the menu or both ?

Posted by Maxxum
Hi TonyG,

Is your information from SE? Or assumption? The SE engineers have verified on this issue?

T68mi does have CHINESE Language MENU...but, cannot input SMS/etc in CHINESE...

Posted by TonyG
Maxxum,

Maybe I have not make myself clear to you or I have mislead you somehow. If I do, I am sorry. Maybe I shall put it this way to differentiate between the Chinese menu and Chinese words input. Okay, Chinese menu means you can received, read but cannot write. And that is on T68 and T68mi. And Chinese words input means you can write, send, received and read . That is on T68mc and T68ie only.
You are right on those info and maybe you are confused by me. My apology again.

orang3>- Can you be more details in it? I can only say that when I upgraded my T68mc to T68ie and it is on R2E sw already. Maybe for those with R2B sw upgraded and I do not know what are the differences between this two series R2B and R2E in the menu. I cannot compared as I did not see the R2B menu at all. Therefore I am not able to answer to you right away as I did not have the chance to see the R2B sw menu.

Hi Tony.....

Its okie, I'm not confused at all.

But just wants to confirmed if the information you mentioned about the no-go for T68mi->T68ic, since U know the engineer from SE. Maybe can help those with T68mi to verify on this issue? I'm pretty sure many of those having T68mi would welcome the chinese input on their phone.....

Thanks....

It is okay Maxxum. At first I thought my converted T68mc to T68 m can remained the T9 english after the upgrading. But did'nt expect my "m" revert back to "mc" after I had upgraded and became "ie" in the end. But as I said it was fortunate that the "ie" had the T9 English input. So, I am happier now that I can write and sent both languages.
The SE people told me that the menu was already been programm in the sw which they cannot do anything about it. I guess they programm
the "i" and "ie" seperately is to cater for different markets. The Europe side do not required Chinese langauge whereas the Asia side will prefer the Chinese and English languages together. Especially now in China, the Chinese is starting learning English. This "ie" is most suitable for them.
