Im sure im not on my own with this one.when your on WAP,you cant use the search,so its very frustrating to see use a search if you need some info.i call all you fellow wappers to reply, use the copy and paste to any tedious posts like this!thanks!;-)

You're quite right - some Esato members do indeed use that phrase a lot without any consideration for the WAP users. It must be the beautifully designed, animated, 'use the search' smiley that draws and compells them to do this. That's why I switched to a new phrase: 'use the manual' and I demand a new smiley!

@judge:  the normal users might use :search: from time to time but no1 will read the manual haha Thank God I find it nice, informing and entertaining!

I tend only to read the manual if I can download it in PDF format, which you can for all
phones for example, because that way it is much easier to find what you are looking for using the pdf reader search facility

i agree for wap users, the beutifully animated use the search icon, did not animate on my t610 so all i ever saw was \"use\"

Yeap, that really comes in handy. However, when I study I find it more comfortable using printed material - it may be due the fact that my country only entered the computer age after the 1989 revolution and the subsequent fall of communism. Going back to the manual - I think that maybe half of the issues raised on Esato could be easily solved by ACTUALLY reading the manual. Makes you think, doesn't it...

Ok now this is gonna sound stupid, and please consider what this thread is called, but what is the manuel?

Manual = user guide
Posted by Vlammetje
It is a beautiful little booklet that comes in the box with your phone, if your lucky like me it is in your own language and it contains the most marvellous information on what your phone can do. I can recommend a reading to all phone users.
I am one of those rare ppl that do read the manual

I'd rather have the manual in English - I sometimes find the translation to be of a questionable quality. And I agree with Vlam - I'm quite bored with the recent Esato wave of 'tips' that are in fact nothing more than common knowledge once you've read the manual.

Ah!sorry, just me being naive! Anyway its not get anything useful in,i already know how the dictionary works and how to plug my charger in.;-)

i do use it to set up my voice commands and such. I find it goes much faster than opening a thread 'how to set up voice commands' and wait for 10 different replies to then sort out the right one

Use the search...
Use the search...
hehehe...just kidding guys

Using the search is all very well but when you get about a million results trying to find the right one is a nightmare!

...then I would say "learn to use the search" because, as others here will confirm, I can certainly find virtually anything I am looking for... moreso with the latest version of the search.
but this thread is more about people being told to use the search who are on wap and I don't know what laffens ideas are but I think it would be quite hard to implement a workable and usable search on wap.
btw, being on WAP does not absolve people from the need to choose wisely whether a question is worth asking on WAP when it could wait until you are online on a pc again (assuming you have that capability at all), especially if its very likely that the question has been covered recently or has been covered many times, unless an urgent answer is required of course.
edit: well I will eat my words

I don't understand why it would be hard to implement, as far as a UI goes. I have no knowledge of the inner workings of wap, but it seems like it should be possible

well it seems there *is* a WAP search there now according to a post just made which I have just verified

Is that because you work on the site or you are here everyday and are more familiiar with its content?
I am familiar with 'search' facilities having applied one for my company website. My point was that common search words bring up many results.
I will continue to try using the search as im sure it will bring some benefits.
Thanks

I've implemented a WAP search page. The result has a link to the topic, to the post found in addition to a short extraction from the post. Please let me know if you have ideas for improvements.

Nice one!very much appreciated!:-Dwhen will we be able to bookmark topics?
Posted by BOSSHOGG
Sweet! Good work laffen. The only things left are private messaging and topic bookmarks on wap :-)

Aren't we being a little too demanding? :-D don't listen to them laffen, i know how it feels. ;-)

I believe he asked for feedback and suggestions. Well Here's mine, once you use the search on wap it logs you out and you need to log in to post. Small suggestion, pm, bookmarks, headlines and search could go into one options link at the bottom. Rather than a huge list at the bottom al the time. Oh, and registration via wap. I've known a few people who needed that :-) one last thing, wapocalypse.com has all these features and more on wap. And It's

@judge: You could also write RTFM instead of "use search"
RTFM = Read The Fucking Manual
If you use that phrase a lot wont make you very popular here though
Posted by Deanlambert
If you had used the search option you would have noticed that this has already been discussed :-D

@Deanlambert: Hehe, you got me there

Can you tell i was bored?
