I ordered this last week, got it in 3 days.. it's amazing, it's only $23.00 compared to the $80.00 BT's out there. I think it's probably the best deal I've seen.. it includes a CD that finds any device and has tools just file transfer and outlook sync. I never had to download any t610 tools at all it was all included.

Does anyone have experience with long range BT (100m)? My long range Belkin does not seeem to be able to cope with too many obstacles between it and my p900. Anyone tried an alternative?

Posted by mwright
Surely the range depends on the device with the SMALLEST range?

What range does the P900 have - for example the T610 only supports 10m so it does not matter if the dongle supports 100m since the phone cannot reach it beyond 10m.

Does that make sense?

Think so. And thats a pity

The P900 supports only the 10M range BT

i dont get the whole range deal. wouldnt be like if the adapter is 100m and then the phone is 10m, wouldnt they add up. like the adapter can go 100m to one end and from that end the phone's 10m range would meet with that end. tha's how i thought would work(isnt that how wifi works?). the limited range of the two would reach and connect with each other instead of one object range only connect with the actual object emitting the bluetooth. so here's the questions i suppose. so since the phone has a range of 10m then it is limited to the 10m to send something to the usb adapter. but then if the adapter is 100m does this mean my phone can be 100m's away and usb adapter can still send it to the phone but hte phone cannot send back because its range is only 10m? this is too confusing.

Umm... no..

The ranges don't add up. They have to overlap - ie if you have 2x 10m devices, they both have to be in range of each other to communicate.

buy z1010...
it has 100m range bluetooth...

Picture this: You are standing on a large field with a megaphone trying to communicate with a friend without megaphone at the other end of the field, he will probably hear you, but you won´t hear him.
Not much of a communication is it?

Any recommendations for cheap USB BT adapters in the UK? There seem to be a lot of cheap ones on eBay, just want one that will work fine for an S55 and P900.

You're one heck of a lucky guy 'exile' ! Very cheap indeed !

very goodprice. Does it support all profiles?

Posted by exile
I assume it does. So far not one problem at all. I opened an $80 dollar adapter, and compared it to this one, and the only thing I could see different was a small difference in transfer speed. All of the other specs matched perfectly. It's 10m just like my t616, I hope they get more in, try looking for it in other places like the site of the maker, I didn't even spend time looking at the maker I just installed it asap lol.

Trendware/Trendnet Bluetooth Adapter, Model TBW-101UB - Retail

Specifications:
Standards: USB 1.1, Bluetooth 1.1
Transfer Rate: Up to 723 Kbps
Range: Up to 10m (33 ft.)
Antenna: 2dBi (Build-in)
Security: 128-bit encryption

Would USB 2.0 improve on the transfer rate???
Just wondering....

Posted by johnmcl7
A transfer rate of just over 750k is well below the maximum speed of USB 1.1 (12Mb/s) so I wouldn't think USB 2.0 would help.

@johnmcl7 if you can stretch to about £50 get the TDK :bt: it's good stuff.

Boyi got a cheap one about £25 off ebay I think - can't remember wether he said it was any good.

I am not an ebay kinda guy, I trust a company more than a single person, even know I am still basically buying from a single person. I know for a fact that newegg.com will send you your stuff, makes me feel better.

If you think about it you don't need anything more than 1 meg a second to transfer a 30kb file to your cellphone. Doesn't make sense why you would need a USB 2.0 BT adapter for your cellphone.

Transfer rate (~720kbit uncompressed) is defined in the bluetooth 1.1 spec, so I wouldn't expect any change in that untill the new bluetooth spec.

... Speaking of which, I've read somewhere that the next version of the bluetooth spec is on the way. One of the improvements is the transfer speed which should be 2-3mbit/s. The bluetooth 1.2 devices are expected on the marked in 12-18 months.

BlueTooth 2.0 promisses to give 4-12mbit/s

I bought a new MSI 6967 (the usb one, whatever the product code is) for 15 pounds, just waiting for it to arrive to test it.
