I only want broadband for x-box live, but i aint paying 30 quid a month for 12 months just to play a few online games, i dont own a pc or laptop at the moment so i would'nt be able to configure the modem anyway unless i borrow my mates dell laptop, but until then its just me and my P900.

i don't have broadband at home, but the computers at college have it. i hate logging on at home coz once u get used to broadband, dial-up is just a pain. it's like i have to look for info in an encyclopaedia!

Posted by Ivan Kusturin
I use my t68i and gprs to surf the web...
speed: 30Kbps...

that's pathetic...

Posted by Linkinpark17UK
Its nice to know that i'm not the only person who has to dial up.

The best deal in the UK has gotta be Ntl's 150k(so called)broadband, and its only £17.99 a month! Where most dial-up costs about that much anyway u get 3x faster than dial-up. Its perfect for me as im not really a heavy net user and dont dl big stuff like movies etc. 500k is £25.00 a month which is cheap too! I used to have BT dial-up and the difference is just so much better! :-D

Can you all believe this, i live just 66 miles away from Central London, wee have no cable here (so no NTL) & the exchange here can't provide broadband, but it is finaly coming just after Xmas, but it will be a little expensive. friends who can get & use the cheaper NTL cabe version arent always getting full speed either.

Dialup makes me do tiny bits of housework/make cups of tea while i'm waiting for stuff to "Happen" so it aint that bad.

Posted by Dj Boyi
@pachy,i remember those days, its painful, one page with pics of a new phone on Esato used to kill me,been thru a few kettles too! :-D

Posted by pachy
Yeea, its far worse now that most web pages are "Assuming" you have BB, taking longer & longer to get to the meat. mind you i've had relationships like that.

LoL

call your operator and tell them to fix your connection
OR
change to another operator

every game there is today can be played good on a 56k modem(first player shooters work well, but with broadband you can get so much lower ping), if you get alot of lag its not because its to slow. its because the operator sucks(or you just play on bad servers)

I used to be on the 1Mb cable with NTL. I then moved house and I can't get NTL or ASDL. I went back to 56k modem til BT cut me off for not paying my bill!! I now connect up via laptop, Bluetooth and T610 at about 9.6kbps! So you guys running 56k modems are like rockets to me!!!

Oohh, and I thought dial up was bad.

I only use a 56K modem, dial-up, pre-paid inetrnet card. The transferring of datas when downloading is quite OK for me, I don't dream of having the dsl system on my PC, quite expensive too. the reason why I was able to transfer datas that fast is because I surf the net from 1-6 am local time . . .

Posted by Linkinpark17UK
What 3G operators such as Three, should do is have a data only service which will allow broadband access on the move for people with laptops and will hopefully give people in remote locations broadband.

Does anyone know how fast the connection speed of Three is?

Posted by *Jojo*
By the way folks, I heard that the 'fastest' way to connect/transfer/download etc. etc. datas from the net is when using the T1, T2, T3 connection - of course, I am not pertaining here to Governor Schwarzenegger's Terminator movies, can any individual expound more on this? They say that this system is 10x faster than the DSL ???

You can get 512k broadband from a company called Pipex for about £23, its probably cheaper by now....

Check it out

Twista

T connections tend to be used by business and education. My college is running a T3, shared between about 500 computers or more, and when at peak usage you still get download speeds of 200kbps!

Im currently using ISDN at 64k, and its utter arse. The trigger for my local exchange is 250, and weve only got 43

As soon as its enabled, its 2 meg time for me!

i need broadband n all, but i keep meaning to move out so there is no point in getting it yet

Posted by Bianca

don't know if this is broaband or ADSL, but I have my speed at 768kbps or 76,8kb/s.. fast enough for me

a friend of mine have 3 broadband lines coming into his computer. one is running at 3mb/s ( yes, MEGABYTES and not BITS!!) second at 2mb/s and the third one at 1.5mb/s... if you cout them together he is running at 6.5mb/s... that's what I call broadband...

What would be the point of that, unless he's hosting a server on it?

@snaphiss: well, I think it's pretty useful, when he can download a movie using less than 1 hour.. and download lot of music, games and stuff like that.. I use maybe 8 hours to download a movie, and I'm using FlashGet.. than my speed is up and running at max 98.9kb/s... wouldn't have any objection if someone offered me that Internet connection

No broadband here :-( kinda expensive .but my dialup is not that pathetic . . . . When it is functional i.e.

Posted by *Jojo*
Same here - dial -up (56kbps) tsk, tsk, tsk tsk ! Need to evaluate my senses and move to higher grounds. How about "T1", without considering trying a "DSL" ???

Posted by djpowelly
I have broadband.. ADSL to be exact and I connect at 512 kbps and download @ about 50 - 60 (if i'm lucky!)
