UK Orange gprs and a laptop

Hi
I am trying to use my laptop through GPRS in the UK using Oange.
am I right in saying I use "*99**1#" instead of the dial up number.
Ie does this work regardless of country or operator.

i have managed to get this to work with orange, try using *99# without a user name or pwd
