O2 are complete *SLAGS* in this area. It took me ages to figure out that MMS GPRS, WAP GPRS, and WEB GPRS all exist, and are different things (different servers etc). (with O2 support and O2 website being completely unintelligable and awkward of course)

By using the WAP GPRS login settings, I have been able to get www.o2.co.uk to load in internet explorer, but nothing else.

This is strange, because my T610 can load HTML sites and download things like pictures and Midis from HTTP based sites. Yet when I try to do this from the PC, no luck.

Anyway, I tried downloading Winwap and getting it to access the internet treating the mobile as a GPRS gateway (as opposed to IEs normal method of treating it as an ISP). Again no luck.

I too have tried with Opera but couldn't get anything to work with it.

I have even tried downloading a piece of software called "Proximotron" and getting it to modify the outgoing HTTP header from "Internet Explorer 5.5" to "Sony Ericsson T610" (or something similar), but to no avail.

You may also have noticed how you need to use proper internet settings to make the in-built email client in the p900 / t610 work. Standard O2 WAP GPRS settings don't work with this either.

In the end I gave up exasperated! I would pay O2 the £15 a month (or whatever) GPRS subscription if I could but apparently you HAVE to have a full contract phone (unless you have a Nokia 6600 or XDA2 - and who's going to buy one of those on PAYG?). So I've stuck to accessing WAP and the internet on my T610, since I already BOUGHT the T610 SIM free and a PAYG SIM card, only to find out I needed a contract anyway.

I must admit my experiences with O2 in this area have definately put me off them, and the only reason I stick with them is since all my friends use them. And since I'm complaining, could I just mention that I went into O2 shop in York yesterday and asked them when they expected to be getting the T630 in stock and they had no idea what a T630 was. O2 you suck.

All I can suggest if you want internet on O2 PAYG is to use a GSM Dialup configuration

Thx for your reply!Yes you are right, this O2 is so shit! The only reason I am still with them because the free GPRS.I think I will move to the Vodafonc neklt February.Well,I can get acces to any web pages on my phone with the buit in browser, but I want to use the opera, because I hate this horizontal scroltbar and this is the most important thing for me,because if you use the opera, you dont have this stupid scroll bar! So,I still stucked and I have no idea what to do!

Use the existing O2 Pay & Go GPRS P800/P900 Internet Account settings, but with a modification.

On the Proxy tab add the following:

Proxy server: 193.113.200.195
Proxy port: 8080 (or try 80)

It seems to work with the latest version of Opera (v6.20)!

@ Poo Poo Thanks a million!!! Finally I've got internet working.

Not sure if this would speed it up, as the network is supposed to override the settings, but worth a try though.

In the same Internet Account go to the QoS tab and set the follwing:

Header compression (ticked or not!)
Precedence: High
Delay: Class 1
Reliability: Class 1
Peak Rate: Class 5
Mean Rate: Class 18

Hi guys,

I have just got myself a T610 and am experimenting with connecting to the internet on my laptop using the infa-red. so far i managed to make them communicate with each other but the only site i can go to is www.o2.co.uk. I was wondering if this method could be used also with internet explorer / opera for the pc

thanks for your time.

Stupid name or very warped sense of humour!! I think!!

QoS settings tab is found in Internet Accounts (two places on the right from the Proxy tab).
