Well, they probably just want to share the themes they like, and think are worth sharing.
By the way: are the themes copyrighted?

no, of course not!

I don't mind people sharing, just not claiming it as their own work....

no - they are not copyrighted - unless the thememaker has only used his/her own artwork to create the theme, and has stated on the site with the themes that they are copyrighted. But since most themes are based on artwork freely found on the internet (or even some times on other peoples copyrighted artwork - ups) usually themes can not be considered copyrighted.

However - IMHO it can be considered bad taste to offer themes and give the impression that it is their work without giving credit to the real author. The themes that I make are free to use/alter for anyone in anyway they like - but if someone should want to put my themes on their site - I would expect them to have the descency to give me the credit for creating them, and not pretend that it is their own work. Especially those themes that are unique. I know some of my themes are unique and therefore easily spotted if I were to visit a site that had posted my themes without giving me the credit. Naturally there are allways grey zones, like when several thememakers create themes based on the same artwork - like a movietheme - with very small differences between the themes.

If someone were to think some of my themes are so good that they would want to put it on their own site and asked me - I would certainly feel flattered and say go ahead - but put my name beside it so that I may have the credit for the work I've done. Not that its that much or that special - but anyways you know what I mean

On my own site I only post themes that I have created myself - and then I link to the sites of other thememakers I think are good - not deeplinking to their themes directly, but to their sites. I would never take someone elses theme and put it directly on my site without asking them first, and then I would give full credit to the real thememaker if I did get permission to host someone elses theme.
