GPRS Parameters Not Supported?

hey all, ive been trying to access the internet on my laptop using my t310 and have run into some problems.

I'm using an IRDA dongle, and have installed the modem drivers from the SE website as well as the network wizzard. The problem is that whenever the computer dials the GPRS number, it says connecting on the phone but then gives either a GPRS Request Rejected message, or GPRS Parimeters not supported on the phone. The PC just hangs on registering your computer on the network...

The GRPS works fine on the phone btw, my operator is o2 so i hope someone can give me some advice! thanks

This error is well documented on Esato but in brief it usually means either you are specifying an incorrect CID in your dialling string or you do not have GPRS activated.

Since you say GPRS works fine on the phone (and assuming its GPRS internet not GPRS WAP you are talking about that works on the phone) then check your dialling string on the PC.

It should be *99***CID# where CID is the numeric digit representing the data account on your phone that connects to the GPRS internet.

edit: If that doesn't help have a read here

thanks for the fast reply, ive been browsing various forums the last week but none on the threads' ive found actualy present an answer :s

i assume the gprs works, because its what i use to browse the internet on the phone. (currently o2 doesnt charge me, being on payasugo)

i used the default settings thingy for that communication's suite, and it set the CID number or whatever as **2#, which does indeed select the GPRS setting that i use on the phone. However, there was another field that was "APIN" or something that used to say "payandgo.o2.co.uk" but now that field is empty :s i havent been able to change it back...

When i try to connect with the **2 setting, the phone reads "connecting" but then says GPRS request rejected. if i remove the **2 and just have *99*# as some forums suggested, it says GPRS parameters not supported, or sometimes "Wrong APIN Address" or something similar :S (sorry i cant be more exact)

Would it be possible for you to tell me the exact procedure to set it up from scratch? i have emailed o2 about the problem without a reply thanks for any more help you can provide.

If you are browsing the internet on your phone then its almost certain you are using GPRS WAP, not GPRS internet.

I don't use O2 so cannot help you any further except to say that if you dial simply *99# then that is equivalent to dialling *99***1# as CID 1 is the default.

I have seen other people discuss this about O2 and have a vague memory that you can only GPRS WAP on PAYG O2 and not GPRS internet but I could be wrong and maybe someone else can confirm that.

im very sure its GPRS, because i had to phone o2 a while ago to get it all working. The account name is O2 WAP GPRS, and as i said i dont get charged (the website says its free till Jan 03).

Hopefully you can think of some other advice, because i am really in need of getting this to work thanks for trying though

edit: under wap profiles, there is 2 entrys:

O2 MMS
O2 WAP GPRS

I wasn't suggesting it was not GPRS, I was pointing out that almost every carrier has two different APNs for GPRS, one for WAP and one for general internet. It is now very clear from what you last wrote that you are using WAP and you most certainly cannot access general internet via the WAP APN.

for example on vodafone I have one data account with APN of "wap.vodafone.co.uk" and another with APN of "internet".

I cannot connect to the internet from my ipaq or pc using the wap APN, only via the internet APN. This rule applies to my german and australian carriers too and is the usual method.

I have never understood why the two are separated but its just the way it is.

oh i see, sorry for not making that clear before...however i still dont understand what i have to do

you need to find out a) if you are allowed to use GPRS internet on your service and if so, what APN you will need to use. If GPRS internet is allowed on your service then you need only create a data account in the T310 and set that APN. Usually no other settings will be required. Then take note of the new CID of that data account and use that in your dialling string on the PC.

Good luck!

OK ive gone to add new data account on the t310, and for a new account i need to enter an APN, User ID and Password. Do i need to call o2 to get these, or will all o2 users have the same one and be able to tell me?

Ok well looking through some of these threads it seems that my vague recollection might be right that you cannot do GPRS internet on O2 PAYG. I also cannot see anything on the O2 web site about this either.

best to call O2 and confirm.

i did a quick look on google, and found these settings:

http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

ill report back whether they work or not, and if not ill call o2 thanks for the help!

I was just trying to find that page for you as its been mentioned quite a few times on esato too.

Well I wish you luck and do let us know.

Wrong APN Address surely some other o2 user here has the correct APN?

Masseur gprs internet? Is it possible? Please explain

Posted by masseur
well I don't know how to explain any more than I already did in this thread so perhaps if you elaborate a bit more on your question and what it is that you don't understand I will try and explain further.

I mean that surfing the net through your phone's gprs via ir is it possible? Thanks

Posted by masseur
Oh I see!

yes... I've been doing it since GPRS started nearly 2 years ago, using palm Vx, various PCs and ipaqs too!

obviously it depends on your carrier to provide this feature and as we have seen, some carriers don't provide it on PAYG tariffs... they only provide WAP
