I've noticed in the Philippines (and around the world) that Nokia has dominated the mobile phone market. However, of late, I noticed a slight uptick on Ericsson users.
Personally, I find the Nokia user friendly ... however, I find the Ericsson just as user friendly (of course, that's if one is used to its interface), plus a bit more comprehensive on its features.
Just wondering what others thought ...

anyway, the bottomline when comparing the two manufacters (i think) is how they package or target their market. nokia likes to be fashionable, while ericsson want's to be functional (and with the new
phones, functional and trendy)
there was this post here on a subject a bit similar to this, and the esato members can be profiled as mostly techies and guys. hehehe

this is my first
phone. i have been a loyal nokia (bleech...) phone users through out my phoning life. that would mean i have been using nokia for 9 years now. anyways, the nokia phone, as much as i regret this, is very straight forward when it comesto usage. simplified menus, that's why my mom likes it. when the craze for 5110 (as i believe is a turning point for gsm) went thru, i had one. menu were okay and it suffuce the need of the time which is txt. nokia answers the market at hand. no .... is always a step ahead. providing inovative ideas to an otherwise clog, boring market. and with the lauch of t68, everything is going better.... just look at how nokia beat itself up to answer! ehehehhe loser!

Yeah, my wife used to never want to use my Ericsson. Until I got the T68. After that, lo and behold ... she wanted an Ericsson. Oh but she was b*tching the first couple of weeks because of the different interface. But now that she's used to it, I think we have a convert. Honestly, I have nothing against Nokia. They do make pretty good phones as well. My first phone was actually the 2110. Later moved to the Ericsson GF788 and stayed with Ericsson until my last phone which was a Nokia 8890 (of course a gift from my wife).
You know what I hated though? The Motorola. Hated receiving texts because of the lack of caller-id. Problem was needed to get a tri-band for use in the US.

Yeah, actually saw the beta t68 as early as the middle of 2001 from my buddy -- he was at the time testing it. For a while I was debating whether to wait for the N7650. Later on found out about the price and the size of the 7650 so I went for the T68. But how about that P800 -- nice. Wish it wouldn't be baby blue though. how about a carbon fibre look or something to make it look "bad"

i hated that phone (trium nga ba?), hirap gamitin. though, it was sleek looking phone.

Was pretty happy with my Nokia phones before, but happier now with Ericsson.
It just gets annoying to some degree that, while Nokia expenses for me were on cover changes, Ericsson comes out to be more expensive in the long run...'coz it makes me want to get all those techie gadgets to really utilize its features.

I was a nokia devote for about 6years, 5110,6110,7110,8210,8310.
The phones where stuck to me ear constantly due to my job, and my fingers are about 2cm shorter after billions and billions of txt, however my contract was near expiring and i fancied a change. I got bored with the same interface over and over again. So mr naive(myself) went to a voda shop to check new phones. The guy showed me an T68. Colour screen(most ovious difference), bluetooth voice coms etc...
That was it Ericsson was then "The one" matrix style.
Ive the phone ever since, only gripe is it crashes often, numbers appear in call list instead of names(even though they r in memory) and the text is slow. I have to upgrade my sw correct??

i found the ericsson service line 08705237237 uk, they put me touch with my local service centre. Ive got a appointment tommorow to upgrade to R2b. They said it should sort the problems. Hopefully it'll work other wise, dare i say? i may be forced to retreat to a nokia. Ahh!!

I AM STAYING WITH ERICSSON!!
I got phone back this afternoon, so far it is working fine.
All the names are there instead of numbers, but the texting speed hasnt much improved. There is also little pictures in the call list, like little mobiles & houses. What a novell touch!
The shop had my fone most of the day as i couldnt stay & wait. But the strangest thing was i told them i need a "loan" phone for the day. would you believe it they gave me a Nokia 8210. Omen or Not??

I'm glad your phone's much better now.
But don't expect the T9 to really get fast with FW upgrades...it's a fact for Ericsson, but you get used to it.

Another thing i forgot to menchtion. I went to the shop to get this upgrade, and explained my probelms. The guy said "sorry mate, i cant upgrade this fone to a nokia 7650!" That was real nice comfrom a ericsson dealer!!

i have been a nokia user for quite a while, i believe 9 years..... and trust me on this piece of advice, drop nokia altogether! functionality wise, ericsson stands out. their features makes you wanna uhm*uhm all day! excuse the pun.....
ericsson maybe a bit pricy as compared to nokia, but boy, the features are worth it!

I think it's just a matter of taking the dive. Most non-Ericsson users find the Ericsson phones complicated. I say give it a chance. Like I mentioned in the earlier threads, it is more complicated simply because it's a bit more comprehensive than the Nokia interface. It's just a matter of getting used to the Ericsson interface. However, one has to credit Nokia's designs. They do have some kick *ss looking phones.

I really won't commit myself to any of them.
If it happens that all of a sudden Sendo is making phones with great features, i may even consider getting one too.
What i'm trying to say is that the brand doesn't matter much.

Branding comes in, I guess, when it comes to relying on the quality of the product...'coz sometimes all the features may be there but it breaks down easily.

here in the philippines almost the same scenario. nokia is so active and generous to participate with promotional activities with the carriers. they really have the supports and resources. ive never seen a single tv commercial from sonyericsson.

I have "evolved" as a cellphone user. My very first phone was a clunky Motorola, and back then I thought it was the coolest thing. Then I received a succession of Nokias,as gifts or hand-me-downs. Last month, I found myself needing to buy a new phone, so I did all the research, and really looked at what was in the stores, and voila,the p800 was IT! So I'm now a satisfied SonyEricsson customer...........
at present. Who knows what new technology is yet to come? I'm always open to change...

T68i is small, colored, has bluetooth, infrared, mms, camera (with zoom).
the only advantage of Nokia 6100, 6610 etc... is polytones and speakerphone which are really cool.
the only nokia phone that can "beat" t68i is the 7250 but its big and ugly.
also the t68i can send almost anything through infrared bluetooth or mms- pictures, ringtones, phone book entries, voice recordings. Try sending a picture through infrared with a color nokia phone (except 7250) you cant...

@aquanaut... ur right. The only Nokia phone I can send pictures to (though BLUETOOTH) is the 7650/3650. The other colored Nokia phones cannot recieve through IR so we have to resort to sending MMS and that costs money. No wonder why Globe and Smart are actively selling Nokia Phones instead of SE Phones. Don't u smell a conspiracy here? And look at Globe's Wap site, there's too little things to download for the t68i and the P800. Good thing we have other sources like Esato and My-Symbian (for P800 applications)... and best of all, they are "free". And I bet that the current 7650 owners are not maximizing thier phone's capabilities (PDA functionality). They're just using it for text, mms and taking pictures. I guess this is because it's hard to sync ur 7650 with a computer becuase there's no cable. U need a to buy BLUETOOTH adaptor (not free with the 7650 package) so users would have to resort to downloading their picutres, games, applications from Globe. I guess using nokia phones can be waste of money.
