Just out of curiosity i tried to print out a contact detail - ie phone number and address from my P800 via infrared to my HP laserjet 2100.

They both have infrared and when i enable infrared on my p800 AND SAY SEND CONTACT VIA infrared i take the phone close to the printer and the printer responds as i can see the green light in the infrared port (on the printer) come on but after a few seconds of searching the p800 says could not connect????

does anyone know why.....i mean my office collegues cheap stupid 8310 does very easily allow the same printer to print out a number so why not the P800

Please help..........as i am being teased by my collegues they are all laughing at my phone !!!!

Take your friends 8310 and give it to the closest 12 year old so that they can beat his high score on snake and change the cover to incorporate winnie the pooh or some such. Then take one of your spare stylus' and stab it into the guys throat repeatedly until death (or the stylus snaps)

His highest on snake is 100 !!!

Nice one but i still wanna know why the heck it dont work when his does !!!!

why not just boast about something your p800 can and his 8310 cant?

He's well impressed by the gadget anyways but:

WHY DONT THE DAMN THING PRINT !!!!!

Well done Mixin, exactly what I was going to say. The 8310 isnt exactly the most advanced phone on the market, so pretty much anything the p800 does would blow his away

edit; You might wanna contact SE and see if it is compatible with that printer

You should get a bluetooth printer instead. Then the guy with the Nokia 8310 can try printing While you can print from anywhere in a 10m radius

I knoww
But
Why
Aint
it
prinitng
now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i rang and they said it should work.....hmmmm can someone try printing with any infrared printer and see if it works????

It could be a new bug i've found that exsists in all our phones !!

stand closer to the printer... maybe its something to do with the p800's crap range?

Ive made the damn ports smooch aswell !!! still dont work ?

I've printed photos to a Canon printer(forgot which model-its the one that prints via infra).. @ first it didn't work.. You'll have to leave your phone next to the printer for awhile.. Only then it'll print.. Well, that's the case @ first..

Try not to smooch ur IR port w/ the printer's. I think there should be a minimum range of 3inches. I tried to print thru infrared w/ my p800. At 1st it wont print because it was so close betwn IR ports. Then I moved my phone back about 5inches, the printer started its job. Unfortunately I cant remember what printer it was. Hope this help.

Very interesting...i have a printer in my desk, and i always seen that infrared thingy...after reasing this post, i tryed giving it a try...but it just would not work...i can see the printer's green ligh(infrared area) light, but it just wouldnt print...weird

Perhaps the reason IR printing doesn't work with the P800 is that what you are in effect doing is SENDING a FILE.

Perhaps, what the printer requires is NOT a file to be sent but a string of codes that is interpreted for printing.

I guess the protocol used by the P800 is not compatible with IR printing.

And if my memory serves me correctly the NOK phones cant print to any IR enabled printer; it's only to some of them (HP printers especially I think)

U must be right...actually for my case, i have been trying to send(t610) a file to my HP printer.

i dont see anywhere, print via bt/ir/etc...

I'm sure I've printed to an HP inkjet before now. Got a deskjet in work with an IR port - will give it a try tomorrow and report back!

My inf/red doesn't work @ close, med or far range to anything. I tried it again the other day to send a contact to my other phone - no go. Still the bl/toof always works.

Yep same thing, just tried to send stuff to a LaserJet 4050N but no luck. The LED on the printer flashes and the IR activity symbol on the P800 blinks too but after a few seconds the P800 says 'Connect failure' or something.

Did I try it the right way? I tried to send a contact via IR as well as a .txt file. Maybe it's true that there should be a print feature instead of just sending the binary/ASCII file over....

I tired printing via IR aswell and it just does not work no matter how far or how close i get to the printer......Maybe Rahul is right...this is a newly found bug on the P800 !!!!

The next time your so called friends laugh at your P800s inability to connect to HP infrared printers, let them know that your highly sophisticated P800 is more than capable of communicatlng with upto 10 bluetooth devices at once, maybe the P800 does'nt like using its ir port with HP printers because the technology is old and only used by misers that cannot afford to invest in a quality phone like the P.
