Flashing p800 yourself.

I have seen discussions about wether or not you can flash the p800 yourself using the sync station. To add to that SE told me today that the software will be available very soon for all p800 users to be able to do this with their provided sync station, as not everyone that has one can easily get their phone flashed. They did not specify when, but it is a guarantee.

I know it is possible to do with the sync station...

Hardlock?!

Whats a hardlock?
and is it safe to flash the P800 yourself?

when upgrading phones using the software EMMA you need a hardlock device and a smartcard...

I don't believe they will ever do this.

Might as well do that. Flashing is done free at service centers. So I guess providing the software at even a very small price will be a more efficient way.

I don't think they will either.

Free?? not here you know !! lollll We have to pay for firmare upgrade, it's just free just after buying one... not after that anymore

And then they would have to give you all the acces key to their protection.. keep on dreaming! lolll
When upgrading a phones using the software EMMA you will need a hardlock device and a smartcard to make the changes possible...
Why not asking a bank to give them the keys of the save? loll

Why do they need to protect the P800? What is the point of copying the operating system? What is this copy going to be run on?

My wife has an XDA, and she has always been able to upgrade her phone with a downloaded file through the connection, and I don't think there has been a need for the XDA to be protected using Hardkeys and the like.

Home flashing would save alot of money for SE.

It seems to me that the fact that currently hardlocks and smartcards are required for firmware updates is irrelevant if were to provide the ability to do firmware upgrades ourselves.

They would not expect us to use the EMMA servers etc like service centres do. They would provide EXE files that we download from the global support page for the phone and we simply run that with the phone connected and that would do the upgrade. This is the way I upgrade my laptop firmware, pocketpc firmware, GPS firmware etc etc.

The only question is whether they could write an installer for the firmware which could work with existing phones or whether such a feature could only be available with future phones that have been designed to provide this ability.
