Hello Forceabuser,

My name's John Dennis and I'm a game designer at Team 17. Your mail has been forwarded to me in the hope that I may be able to help. In answerto your suggestion, developers don't normally decide on what platform a title appears: this matter is usually decided in negotiation with the publisher when the contract is signed with the developer. It's publishers who fund the development of games, and as a result, it's usually publishers who decide what games they want made, when they want them to arrive, and on what platforms. Were Team 17 to develop a Worms title for the p800 without a publishing deal, we would not only be taking on the financial risk of employing staff who understood the limitations and technical requirements of the platform, but also the devlopment time and cost (which despite being a conversion, would still undoubtedly run to several tens of thousands of pounds). Without a publishing deal at the end of development, Team 17 could find themselves in a position of having developed a product with no means of distributing it to our customers, and consequently, no way of receiving any financial return for the investment made.

So, to cut it short, if a publisher wanted us to develop a "Worms"
game for the p800, and a deal was agreed, we would. The fact that we haven't done thus far is a result of no publishers having offered a deal.

I hope this makes things clearer... it's not just a case of us
wanting to make a game... it's actually about who picks up the tab for
making it : )

Cheers for the suggestion though!

John Dennis

As far as publishers go.... you're best talking to lesser publishers like Bam! and until recently Kaboom may have been interested, however they have just gone into liquidation.... so thats a no go.

Sony Ericsson is NOT a publisher and certainly not in the games industry. Sony Computers Entertainment Europe also known as SCEE however is same as SCEA (Sony Computers Entertainment America)

EA = Electronic Arts is another but as I say I think your best bet is wit ha much smaller publisher, perhaps Kemco. Do a search on google for Video Game publishers and you'll see several others.

Thought this might help though to be honest the way the games industry currently is, so many game developers going down the pan (2 last month infact) I would say it's unlikely that you would get much sucess at the moment.

I'm a Game Designer for Computer Artworks Ltd.

Edit : Oh and one more thing, if you apply with a games design or suggestion and want to be taken seriously in the industry, I'd suggest using your real name rather than a handle/online name.

i wasn't serious gonna ask them, i was just wondering why this game wasn't developped yet, especially by the original game developers.

Are we talking PC version worms?, PS version worms? or megadrive version worms?

I'm sure that there's someone out there who could write an emulator app for the first one (something like eScumm). The third one, If someone could obtain the ROM, you could use SMS PLus.

The original worms game was written in BASIC on an amiga, and certainly didn't cost tens of thousands. Maybe your best bet is to ask them to release the source or buy a copy of it off them and port it yourself, if you really want to play it that much. Personally i think it would be pretty crap on a phone.

Ah, the Amiga, maybe while were at it we could port Turrican or Xenon or even The Blues Brothers. =p

Besides Worms is not an original idea.... ok the characters and weapons were new and intuative and the fact you could play with up to 4 players however the game Tanx was out several years before this. There is less to do in it than worms but the core gameplay is there.
