does anyone find that when they are sent email alerts via orange that they freeze up the phone for a few seconds before you can view them?i have noticed the same sometimes occurs with texts.if the phone is on vibrate it just buzzes to let you know the text has arrived, but the phone freezes and no message pops up on the screen for 10 seconds or so.is this normal?

you need to get your firmware upgraded. that was a problem in the original R1A firmware.

Posted by gjl79
i have only had the phone just over a month, so how is it i have older firmware, and how do i go about updating the firmware if i need to?

Posted by masseur
take it to a sony ericsson service centre

also... have a read of the Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style)

Posted by gjl79
any idea where i might find one?and how do i find out what firmware is currently on my phone?

Posted by masseur
To find out the firmware you have read the link I gave you.

to find out where your local service centre is either call , tell us where you are or do a search as many service centres are listed in threads on esato

Posted by gjl79
oh thx.i am in uk.there is a sony centre shop in the local town, maybe i could find out from them??

Posted by masseur
no I don't think Sony shops in UK do firmware upgrades although I heard they do in US.

where are you?

Posted by gjl79
just checked my phone and the firmware is R1A081 i think.im near to london.

Posted by masseur
well I am trying to help but if the closest you can tell me is near to london that covers area from reading in the west to watford in the north to Basildon in the east and redhil in the south!

So I guess I'll let you find your own service centre

Posted by gjl79

Posted by masseur

hmmm...do you think it is worth it?and do you know if i do have an older firmware installed or not?i bought the phone for email mostly and its been a hassle since i got it.soemtimes the phone freezes up doing other thigns as well, and i just have to switch it off.it has even happened where i cant even switch it off and have to take the battery out.is that another fault of the firmware?

Posted by masseur
defintly worth it. there have been 3 firmware versions since the original R1A. Read this about the latest firmware

New T610 firmware - R3C002

Posted by gjl79
i keep testing it and its really random.for a second i thought it only did it on vibrate, but im not certain now its annoying sometimes, thats all.

Posted by masseur
ok so don't hesitate... get the upgrade!

Posted by wrath000
You do have an older firmware. You have R1A081, and the most recent is R3C002. That is the 3rd release after yours, and there are many changes and fixes there. It's definetly worth upgrading.

Wow, Esato hangin for 15 minutes. This is the first. I don't think that machine has enough strength to run the database...

Posted by masseur
they will do it while you wait. they are very friendly there. it takes 20 mins max

Posted by gjl79
oh thanks.sure there is not one nearer?

Posted by masseur
well you have only said you are in Surrey and that one is in Surrey. They are few and far between I'm afraid

Call SE on 08705 237 237 tomorrow and ask them

Posted by gjl79
will i not need to upgrade the phone with every firmware release?and do you have to pay when the warranty runs out?as long as the phone functions i dont know whether it is worth doing this or not?are there any drastic changes to the functionality of the phone with newer releases?

Posted by masseur
no, you don't have to upgrade with every release. if its difficult to get to a service centre then just upgrade when you have a problem, like now.

yes you wil pay after the warranty runs out

for the firmware changes so far look at the R2C link that both wrath000 and I gave you earlier in this thread.

Indeed almost all you have asked is available if you search the forums so please do so.

Posted by gjl79
oh thanks.any idea if there is a service centre nearer to me?

sorry if i am not being helpful in desribing the problem, only just registered, but visited the site a while back so i am just getting used to all this posting.

@gjl79 - stop moaning about your phone freezing & fix it by upgrading the s/w. I take it you've not had an before!?!

T68i froze aswell - thats why they improve the s/w & upgrade your phone for free.

Most phones freeze now-a-days, so get used to it.

well look, I've answered all your questions politely even though most could be found with search, but you keep asking about service centres and I told you of one in the same county as you and also told you of the SE number to call to find out about others but then you come back and ask if there is one near you but still not saying where you are in any more detail than the county! (deep breath!)

So, which town are you in, not that I will probably know any other service centres suitable for you, but maybe I can do a search on esato and find one

Posted by gjl79
im so sorry for being rubbish and angry.im in guildford.no, i have not had an SE phone before haha.

Posted by masseur
no prob but when we suggest threads to read and even give you a link to them you should take the time to read them.

Addlestone is probably the closest service centre to guildford, its only just the other side of the M25 and according to my microsoft autoroute about 21 mins to drive assuming you have access to a car.

Call tomorrow and they will confirm if there is a closer one. Some Carphone warehouses also do upgrades if you can ever get through to them on the telephone to ask where the nearest one that does this is.

let us know how you go

Posted by gjl79
ok, sorry being crap again.i take it carphone warehouse is a nigthmare to get in touch with?that would be a lot easier ofr me if they did i think.

Posted by wapchimp
Call 08705 237237 tomorrow will tell you where you're nearest centre is.

@massuer - autoroute any good? I could have done with something like that the other day when going to gatwick airport.

Posted by masseur
autoroute is pretty good but I just use it to get an idea of where places are and what sort of time it will take to get between the places.

I actually use the
Garmin Street Pilot III for in car navigation in Europe and Australia and definitly recommend that.
