im pretty sure that this is supposed to work but it doesn't.... well i can't transfer files via the infrared port to and from my t610 to my friends samsung v205.... would anyone know why?

When you say transfering files, what kind of files? I've found that I can't send pics from my T68i to friends nokia, but I can send phone numbers across IR.

i've only tried wallpapers because the t610 ringtones are a different format than the samsung ringtones... it says trying to connect.... then connection failed...

Because u can only transfer files pics and sounds from ericsson to ericsson, from samsung to samsung etc. ;-)

some mobile phone IRs are crippled unlike the Ericsson/Sony Ericsson's.
some mobiles require PC Suites or something like that to transfer pics or whatever into them. like Nokia Series 40 phones (6610, 7210, etc), they cant directly receive pictures via IR from SE phones.

Normally, you cannot send pictures or ringtones directly from one brand phone to another. Contacts are normally ok. You can send via MMS. Or another option, as ferrarista44 suggested, you will need some data suite software to transfer images from Phone to PC then PC to another phone.
I think, the reason why they do this is because of the different sizes of screens and pictures from one phone brand to another. At the same time, it also has to do with encrypting into the phone's memory.
Hope this helps.

@jamba: of course u can send pics (jpg and gif) and sounds ( not to samsung they r diff`rent format)..that`s the whole point of standardisation.

701 is correct - Samsung phones use (to some extent) the MMF sound format. This type of files cannot be transfered to a phone that does not support it.

i need help pls! i've been trying to send midi files to my T610 thru my laptop's Ir but somehow the connection keeps getting cut off! i don't have the same problems when i sync my phone with outlook or when transferring image files. what should i do about this? would it be better if i just purchase the USB cable for it?
Posted by judge
Make sure that the files you are trying to send have the .mid extension. Do not consider switching to USB: it's slower than IR because it uses emulation and may prove more difficult to set up. Bluetooth may be another option, but you'll need some experience or advice to use it as well.

My t68i/t610 both work like a dream with my mrs's gd87

thanks judge! i checked my midis and they all have .mid extensions. i tried transferring them again but after my phone gets the prompt to receive the file and i press yes, the connection gets cut again... any more suggestions? if i want to get bluetooth, what am i suppose to look for?

do you enable infra-red on the phone and line it up with your Laptop then wait for it to acknowledge your phone is within range?
check the infrared speed in properties of your computer, it may need adjusting....experiment....it may be your moving the phone out of range when pressing 'yes' to accept.
when transferring from Laptop i've found i dont need to use any additional software just the windows transfer dialog box that appears when phone is in range.

hmm i have never been able to send stuff via IR to other GX10s. I've trie 3 different phones with different files and nothing worked.

With a gx10 you can only use it as a ir modem. Series 40 nokia you have to use a data suite to transfer wallpapers and sounds evan for example nokia 6100 to 6100 file transfer will not work.

Check the technical specifications for your phone.
It may only be able to accept files via IrDa of a certain size, if the file is too big it will fail the connection. The limit is around 40k usually, but it does depend on the phone (Panasonic GD-87, Sony Ericsson T68i etc.)
Obviously, phones like the Sharp do not support IrDa file transfer so you will not be able to send or receive files via infrared.
The Sharp GX20 will support file transfer via infrared, but ONLY to and from a PC installed with the supplied software (it does not use IrDa file transfer on Windows).

Please can someone help me. I've got a Ericsson T68, and a Bluetooth adapter for my PC. They both connect with each other very well. Unfortunately my PC doesn't have an IrDA port, but my T68 does.
Is there anyway of conneting the IrDA port on the T68, through the Bluetooth connection to my PC. I've tried to convince windows that it does have IrDA port, by changing the COM port to a virtual Bluetooth COM port, and turning on the T68's serial port on.
Would you belive it, this doesn't work!. Why is nothing ever simple.
Do you need special software for the T68, or do you need to obtaine more software for the PC. I would be very greatfull if anyone has found out how to do this, or if at all possible. Thanks, _GMoore.
