the infra red range on the t610 is only about 30cm, also the java implemntation doesnt allow ir, so only option atm would be using mophun, which dont have a freeware licence option, so theres not much anyone can do till se sort their java implementation out, even then with a range on only about 30cm its probably easier just to extend you arm a little further to change the chan without using the phone.

I agree, a little bit of exercise never hurt anyone...
Personally, I'm holding out for a
Why is the IR range so short on mobile phones? Is IR really such a power drain that it is turned down for devices like this (i guess IR on phones is often used for long periods of internet connection, though that must be painfully slow, rather than short bursts changing channel like a remote)?

so bad ... the IR range so short .... i have to put the phone near the IR cable if i wanna to send file's ....
so baaaaaaaaaaaad

its due to the fact the infra red used in a phone is a different technology to that of a tv remote, phones and pda's use irda which is designed for transmitting data over a short range, whereas in a tv remote it just has to pulse a constant signal.
ya a bluetooth tv would be.... nice

Sony Clies (PDA) can use there IR port to control TV's, DVD's, and Surround Sound Systems. Before i sold my Clie to get a new UV model(not yet released) I used to use it all the time to control all of the above
It would be nice to be able to do the same with my t610.
