First off, I don't know it works because my phone is unlocked or not. It might also work on on the T30X/T31X series too, don't know about other brands.
Second, it's not really FREE, but if you have internet access in your home/office it won't cost any extra.
I recently had WIE/WI turned off on my Cingular account, because I didn't think it was worth the price. ($6.99)
We had a storm here last night and the electricity was off for about 4 hours. Bored, with nothing to do, I was playing with my phone, and proceeded to delete all the DATA accounts and WAP profiles. I then created a new account with my home ISP's number, user name and password. Damn, it connected, but I couldn't access any sites. I needed a DNS address. With a flash light I dug out a list of WAP I.P. addresss that I could never get to work on my T720 (Maybe, because it was locked?)
Anyway I tried the one for Waptunnel, no luck!(207.232.99.109)
Then for the Ericsson developer site, again, no good!(192.95.167.178)
Then for BT Cellnet. Bingo it went right through. (193.113.200.195)
Pressing the the "Internet" button on the side connects me to SonyEricsson's WAP site. Apparently deleting all the WAP profiles reverted it back to the factory specs, cause when I had WIE with Cingular, it sent me to "My Wireless Window" Witch , by the way I can still access?!?!?
In case it's not obvious, this is a CSD connection, not GPRS. SLOW but FREE!!!!!
If this has allready been posted, Sorry. Just thought I'd share.

I am a Network Vodafone Australia (pre-paid) 'no plans' customer, using a Motorola E360; I connect to the mobile Internet (WAP) using the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). Anyway, I connect to the mobile Internet (WAP) for free- if I have credit, my balance doesn't go down and if I don't have credit I can still access the mobile Internet (WAP)! This works on any GPRS phone when using a (pre-paid) 'no plans' SIM. There's no trick to it, it's just a bug in Network Vodafone's GPRS service...

I'm on Network Vodafone Australia's 'no plans' (pre-paid/pay-as-you-go) service...

Ah not uk then

This is how it used to be before GPRS. The phone would be set up with a dial-up to an ISP. You still have to pay for the phone-call to the ISP, don't you?

No, I don't have to pay anything... AT ALL! Like I said, it's a MAJOR bug in Network Vodafone Australia's GPRS service. I'm actually quite surprised that they haven't fixed it (the bug) yet and that they have let it go on as long as they have...

Surely to access voda Gprs, you need to use the voda Gprs dial up number? Otherwise your just dialing up on gsm, if you change it to your pc isp dial up?

Surley it isnt free because you have to phone a freefone number, which they charge you for, at least they do in the UK

His later posts contradict his opener. One minute he's not using Gprs and the next he's exploiting a Gprs flaw. The whole topic is riddled with contradictions.

You don't dial up for GPRS. If you dialup you use CSD/HSCSD, and pay for the length of the phonecall, not data downloaded. If you use GPRS you pay for data downloaded/uploaded since you are perminently connected. Some providers offer free GPRS, but if you use dialup you will still pay for the phonecall

@steven24 - If ive understood u - u cannot use the orange wap data account with ur aptop - you will need an 'internet' account setup - I can PM u details if you are on contract - if u r on payg - ring the helpdesk.

I'm in the same boat as tactix(are you the tactix from wapoc? I guess you are since you mentioned it on there) I would also like to know a gprs backdoor if there was one.

Atleast in India they charge for HSCSD as per duration of your call made to local ISP. For GPRS, monthly charge is Rs. 99 ($ 2 approx) for unlimited access. I guess even you must have been charged for call made to your local ISP. If not then you are pretty lucky. I must complain regarding the bug to your service provider. ;-) (just kidding)

Hi guys, i also have the same problem as tactix. I am sure if everyone puts their heads together we can come up with a solution. There must be a hack or something!!!!
