where can i buy a USB to IR adapter

I paid 14.50 pounds for it but here are past recent auctions for them so judge for yourself!

carphone warehouse do a standard one that does the trick, I think its around 20-25 quid, otherwise just get a cheapo down the market, should still do the biz!
