Can someone pleeeaasseee help me??
I've got a T610 on Orange and an Orange.net email account and I want to be able to send and receive emails from the phone. I know I can do this via WAP or by signing up to GPRS but I don't want to do either of those.
On my old T68 I used to use the Orange ISP service to send and receive mails and it worked fine. Then I got my handset replaced due to a fault and lost the settings. Orange have now closed down their ISP anyway.
I use NTL broadband at home, so I've regstered with Freeserve just for the purpose of mobile email. The Freeserve settings work fine on my PC to connect to the web. But when I try and send or receive my emails from my T610 I invariably get the 'Cannot connect to server' message.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I'm sure I've set my data accounts up correctly but still haven't had any joy.

If you ring 156 there is a free mobile e-mail promotion that lasts for 3 months and gives you 30mb a month. You can use this also for internet access via laptop although WAP wont work. You need to sign up b4 31st August though mate. Give the operator your e-mail details or use the SE site and you will be sorted. The promo is well hidden up on the web site. Wicked for sending photos (better than paying 40p!)

Cheers. I've seen that and considered it but it's only a short-term solution. I don't really use WAP that much so after the free trial I'd be paying for a service I only occasionally make use of.

There is an outfit called reqwireless (www.reqwireless.com) tha does a couple of java apps you might be interested in.
One is "EmailViewer" that works over WAP to allow you to read your emails without using a traditional wap based email.
There is a demo available and then it is $19.99.
I have used it for a bit and it looks pretty good.

These are the settings I'm attempting to use. If anyone sees anything obviously wrong on them please can they let me know:
Email account:
Connect using - Email (see below)
Protocol - POP3
Incoming server - pop.orange.net
Incoming port - 110
Mailbox - my mailbox
Password - my password
Outgoing server - smtp.orange.net
Outgoing port - 25
Data account (called Email):
Phone number - 08450796699 (Freeserve)
User ID - my Freeserve user ID
Password - my Freeserve password
Password request - Off
Data rate - 14.4k
Dial type - Analogue
DNS address - nothing
Using these settings I'm getting the 'Server not found' error message.

Hi there, you need to change the smtp address to smtp.freeserve.com as you would on your laptop, this is to make sure that it knows to send via freeserve( and the phooe number) and not via orange. hope that works.

make sure your u/n is the u/n you registered on the orange.net. I.e. my username is different to my name@orange.net
Also, i may be wrong, but orange do not allow you to use anything but orange email as your outgoing mail i.e. Outgoing HAS to be smtp.orange.net

Woo hoo got it to work now!
Just needed put in the Freeserve DNS address and now it works fine

You cannot use any pop3 service, orange.net, freeserve on Orange PAYG, only on Orange Contract

Don't think it mentions it can be free on the website though. It is supposed to be a business user option - but personal customers can get it if the ring 156 and ask for the "mobile email pack"
