i've made the switch eraly march. seen it coming. globe will always be globe... a capitalist. no more...

What's the difference when you switch to smart? You still have to pay!
Posted by senninha
@ antski
sure you have to pay. but aside from connection speed and reliability, at least in my experience, the difference is the consumable plans on addict.
on globe, for P1200 a month, i would get 350 free SMS. then i would pay for all MMS, and as more and more sites are no longer free, i pay for GPRS usage, or pay an extra P500(!) a month for 2MB free on G-Surf.
on addict, for P1335 a month, i get P550 consumable, which i can use for SMS, MMS, WAP or web GPRS. rates are standard rates of P1/SMS, P5/MMS, P0.25/kb. so with addict, your TOTAL bill comes out lower without having to make tipid on your usage and controlling exactly how you want to use your free allocations.
as for the question on smart's CS, i haven't tried them yet but i imagine them to be no better than globe's. i have learned not to rely on telco CS staff, as more often than not, they don't really know what they're talking about, especially if your question concerns SE handsets! best knowledge resource is still esato!!!
Posted by jplacson
@701, this is regarding the current telco war that goes on in the Phil where the 2 major telcos (Globe Telecom & Smart Communications) and their never ending promo sagas to get people to switch over.
@senninha, wait, I don't get it... I always was under the impression that the 'addict' plans of Smart were COMPLETELY consumable? Like, your entire monthly plan was consumable...you mean that the addict plan goes on top of your existing Smart plan?
Posted by crowing
its like this, i think,
i have a plan 800 smart, i get consumable 350 text messages and the rest minutes for airtime/calls. if i use gprs, use mms i will be charged as per mms sent and KB used in gprs (P0.50)
now if i swithc to ADDICT 800 i will get consumable 450 pesos(?) for which ever i want (mms, gprs at the rate of P0.25, sms)
i think that's it...
Posted by senninha
no the P1335 i pay for addict is the whole plan, and no, consumable is not the whole plan but for my plan, P550. but when i was with globe, for P1200 i would get 350 free SMS which i would never completely use up, and get charged for almost all my data usage.
bottom line is that with addict, with my usage pattern (actually i noticed that my data usage has in fact gone up), my total bill is now much lower. plus i get to avail of all those services when i go to the provinces, where before, i wouldn't have any signal at all in many of the places i would go.

@Senn, JPL, Crow- copy that
Posted by 701
10x jplacson! Just out of curiousity can u guys tell me how much do u pay 4that 1300 minutes plan? 10x
Posted by senninha
@701
actually for my plan which is about US$25 a month, i get 210 free minutes and a little over US$10 consumable via SMS, MMS or GPRS.
FYI, SMS is US$0.018, MMS is US$0.094 and GPRS is US$0.0047/kb.
BTW what is 10x?

for those who want to check out smart addict mobile, go to www.addictmobile.com hope this helps c",)
Posted by jepaz
Addict Mobile has consumable but of a certain limit per service as far as I could still remember.
Posted by arnoldc
kapitan, dreaming of a better phone? the T610 is already on display at smart wireless at ayala. don't know lang when will it be available for addicts
Posted by padlex
Hey! If it is true that Smart does provide stable and reliable GPRS connections and service I think I have to consider transferring to them also. Because right now it is not possible to access Esato using Globe.
Posted by jplacson
Remember one thing... under Smart, ALL internet traffic (including WAP) is billed. With Globe, restricted WAP access is free, full internet access is billed.
I send and receive my Yahoo mail for free with Globe, I check movie skeds & reserve tickets for free. Basic Google searching is free as well, as is getting news from Inq7.net. Esato is a hit-and-miss thing...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... I don't really care since it's free anyway.
The few times that I NEED to use Opera or the built-in POP email client... then I don't mind paying. Since my mobile surfing is very erratic, I don't really need to be locked down to plan (G-Surf or Addict) that requires me to use data services, whether it be MMS, GPRS or whatever.
--------------------
Ok, I'm looking at the 'addict' rates and I'm wondering... what's SMS IOD? And are calls & SMS to other networks also counted as the 'free min' and part of the consumable SMS? Thanks!

@jplacson
the current issue with globe is that even on the paid APN, they are blocking WAP sites.
Posted by jplacson
Really? That's dumb... well, the only WAP site I have problems with is Esato... Inq7, BPI, FedEx, my own WAP site, Sureseats,
, myGlobe, Click the City, Destiny Webmail, and Google are easy to access.

SMS IOD = SMS Info On Demand or info text
SMS & calls to other networks part of free min/consumable data
Posted by padlex
@jplacson. Yes I access my yahoo mail using Globe GPRS however, have you tried to access yahoo messenger? At the moment you also cannot access it using your phone.

hmmm... some of the guys that were once bashing smart telco on a thread a long time ago now switched to smart. simply ironic. does that mean smart offers good service now?
Posted by Jazzbo
@jplacson, you said
"Ok, I'm looking at the 'addict' rates and I'm wondering... what's SMS IOD? And are calls & SMS to other networks also counted as the 'free min' and part of the consumable SMS? Thanks!"
As far as I know Smart counts all calls and SMS to other networks as part of your free allocation under the Addict plans. Globe is actually the only telco that does not count SMS to other networks as part of your free text. Smart and Sun don't care where you send your SMS to.

@TO ALL, i've just got a SMART supersim2 yesterday, and i was able to browse the internet using my t68i as a modem. the problem is i dont have any idea about the rates! i called up CS of smart and told me that it is php 8.00 pesos per minute, is this true? and also using wap via gprs anu ba talaga totoo .25 or .50 per kb??? salamat sa inyong lahat mga bro............
Posted by senninha
smart gprs rate is P0.25/kb
Posted by Erwin777
@senninah, eh yung internet browsing sa pc using t68i as a modem??? how much ung rate? 8 pesos ba per minute???
Posted by senninha
gprs rates are based on data volume sent and received @ P0.25/kb.
per minute rates are for GSM WAP access.
i.e. if you dial up a number, for example i think the number for globe was 2399, then that is GSM WAP and time-based. if you access the internet by dialling up *99***#, then that is gprs access and is volume-based.
Posted by Erwin777
@Seninnha, thank you very much, im using a dial up *99***2# thanks again

@sali ako dyan guys! sick and tired of this globe harrassment.

you should surrender your old sim card and cellphone(if you want a new one), if you want to switch from gold to addict.
Posted by dripple66
hi i just configured my smart amazing phone with the given configurations froma thread here...it worked for me but i just wanna ask if i would be charged if i used that? coz what i know globe is charging per kb if ur using gprs from PDAs or laptops...is it also the same when i used my smart amazing phone?
Posted by emo
@dripple
yes, smart charges P.25/kb
Posted by MFB
The Gsurf plan does not exist anymore. If you use the internet apn, they charge you .25/kb. Im thinking of switching to Addict too. Been with Globe since 1996. Platinum Membership only gives you fast(most of the time) cs answering 188. You can rant all you want and they dont have a choice but to listen. hehehe The other time, complained about Esato and my free phone incident from last November that was never resolved. It was over an hour of complaining... even compared Globe to China for controlling the content we can access. If they are worried over obscene sites, they should come out with a cyber nanny type of service wherein concerned parents will enroll their sons' or daughters' number for controlled access. Now, they can charge for that. Its just that Im really scared to switch, kinalakihan ko na ang Globe. Plus when I attempted to inquire with addict, 8881111 ... first attempt took 3 mins of non stop ringing hangang nagsawa na ako. 2nd attempt probably 3-5 minutes of rings before a cs answered. Her voice was not the type I would want to speak with. Oh well, hope Globe opens up. Invest na lang on more bandwidth and let those who pay have all the access.
Posted by dripple66
ah ok...how bout globe? are they charging if i used my smartphone?

Two to three weeks ago, I posted a request for feedback from Smart subscribers regarding Smart's GPRS in the Phil P800 thread. I got positive ones and now I am a certified, bonafide ADDICT. I got the 1335 plan but since I already have a P800, I gave the SAP to my daughter. Switching from Globe's to Smart was as smooth as a baby's bottom. No hitches. Just used their Over-The-Air setup and added one for internet APN just like Globe's and I was back to business.
I would say from almost two weeks of use that Smart's GPRS is just a tad better than Globe's. What I like about the package is their allocation of consumable (the best so far). The Amazing phone that came with it can only be considered fantastic if you don't have a P800. It is slow (TI OMAP 120 Mhz). There are so many things in it that a P800 user won't like. The camera is so slow (ever used a very cheap Web cam?). And the unit hangs. The problem is, when it hangs, the only thing you can do to reset it is take the battery off and re-insert it (you can't even power off the thing). I was able to have somebody in Smart install a Windows XP like interface though. It is very cool. It even has a logo that says Windows SP (for SmartPhone 2002). And the GAMES, although the responses are slow, I believe that the Amazing phone has the best screen size and color for GAMES and since it has a joystick, it is much much better than the P800.
Again, I did not switch for the phone nor the hope of a better GPRS service or a better customer support. It is their package (the monthly consumable allocation) that really got me.
Anybody able to connect to Tipic server using Smart's GPRS (internet APN)? --Feedback please. I couldn't get mine to connect. I tried my desktop version (TipicIM) and I found no problem.
CS? Try calling Smart's hotline and you could wait for ages. I don't have a problem in this area though because I know somebody in their tech dept (lucky for me). This is one factor I considered before switching. Their CSRs are just as ignorant when it comes to tech aspects as Globe's are, but when you talk to them they will put you on hold while they consult their techies and they come back with an answer. I don't know if anybody experienced this with Globe.
I like the Smart Money, I could now load anybody's Smart pre-paid over the air. I could even make a business out of it. I could also pay all my bills including my Addict account through my phone.
I can also inquire over the air, how much i've spent from my allocation so far and be able to control my GPRS/MMS/SMS itch. It is built into their Addict menu.
I have no regrets switching to Smart. Take it from a Founding Member of Globe.
Posted by mjct6210
maybe you're right. i'm also considering switching...not until the free wap/grps lapses. it's the sole reason i'm staying with globe right now.
