A new Sync Ml server is available- Weblicon. Just go to http://www.weblicon.net/html/demos_login.html for details and download. Click the red-lettered Ericsson T68 link to view the settings.

Gobrutz:
Have you gotten your phone to Sync with this server? I can't seem to. I've tried 5 different wap gateways.

Stajlerboy:
Read Gomichaelkgo's postings at http://esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=1673&forum=14&49.
Gomichaelkgo:
I tried yesterday, but could not sync w/ this server. I tried truesync also, same results. I thought it was something with our sp's gprs service. We're having intermittent problems here the past days.
Did you received a copy of Frank's (weblicon.net) announcement from yahoogroups.com? You can get in touch with him.
I'll try again today because I think Weblicon is better than the others (if it works). The html and wap PIM are working fine.

Weblicon looks promising, unfortunately I still can't sync with it.

Kindly read my PM.

Hi everyone,
I'm a part of the sync development team at weblicon. While I'm currently spending most of my time working towards SyncML certification (we're not officially compliant right now.. hopefully in early April), I would like to try to help anyone that is experiencing problems with our server. I'll try to monitor this thread (and any other forums/threads that are brought to my attention), but also feel free to email me.

Thanks for the support Jeff and welcome to Esato.

Jeff: Can you send T68 settings for SyncML via wap. I saw information on your site but i didn't understand. Calender Path ? & Phonebook Path ?
Thanx for help
Posted by jnichols
I have recently deployed a new server which should fix some problems that I found. I can't promise that it's perfect
All T-68's
Phonebook --> WlcContact
Some T-68's
Calendar --> WlcEvent
Other T-68's
Appointments --> WlcAppointment
Tasks --> WlcTodo
Posted by gomichaelkgo
The changes to the server made it possible for me to sync my contacts.
Good work!
I have a suggestion: It would be even BETTER if I could include/ un-include columns (like category, address, etc) to be displayed in the contacts list. Our phones don't hold address or category info, so these columns will always show up blank.

Jeff,
can you also check out my data connection logs?
I havent successfully synched with the server using my t39 yet. Either its timing out or its something else.
im also having problems with java pim mail client, i can't use it at all.
im using win98, and downloaded the weblicon java PIM.

Jeff: My problem was capital char. in Server URL (i didn't write capital), I fixed it & OK.
Thanx
Posted by jnichols
GOwin, I checked your logs and found nothing wrong, except for the fact that the sessions were not finished.
This seems to be a recurring theme. I honestly don't know what is happening because everything looks fine from the server side. I have a feeling that it is (like mentioned) a connection or time out problem, but if these problems are happening on the phone or in the gateway then I don't really know how to fix them.
One side note.. I think a lot of these problems are stemming from the fact that you guys have HUGE amounts of data. While this of course theoretically makes no difference, it does add to the processing time which increases the chances of connection problems or time outs. So if you just want to see something work completely, success will be much more likely with 20 or so contacts, etc.
Also, everyone please be careful to not make any syntactical mistakes when entering the settings. Someone keeps hitting the server with WlcSyncMlHandlingDA instead of WlcSyncMLHandlingDA and this just can't work. Hopefully very soon I will have a much easier URL.
I want to thank everyone for giving me mountains of log files to look through. While things may not be perfect now, you're helping to vastly improve the product.
Jeff
ps.
I asked and the java pim mail client is a work in progress and is not expected to be fully functional. Sorry about that.

i get syncronization interrupted too :/
Posted by jnichols
Epedemic, what phone are you using?? I don't seem to be recognizing it.
Posted by Epedemic
A t68 with r2b
Posted by GOwin
@jeff, you know i found it a bit funny that you were telling us that we got HUGE amounts of data. I dont suppose you were expecting a \"realistic\" list of 20 contacts? ;-)
Posted by jnichols
yeah, yeah.. I know..
point taken.
no, I definitely realize that you guys are using realistic sizes of data. But as backwards as it sounds, I'm really going for SyncML compliance right now, and for this dealing with realistic data sets is not really an issue. Because, as I said, theoretically the size of the data set makes no difference within the protocol. However, in a real world setting (ie. you guys) it potentially can make a difference. Especially since we're dealing with things like wap gateways and third party phones that I have no control over.
So the best I can say is bear with me while I try to iron out some of these issues. What are your experiences with other servers?
Do you find similar problems or am I the only one. This kind of info could really help me.
@GOwin: I just took a look at your last sync attempt at 12:40 GMT. The server was happily waiting for the 'next' message from the client which never came. This had nothing to do with the size of the data set, and it's very hard for me to find out what happened when the phone gives its usual 'Synchronization Interrupted' spiel. So remember that there's at _least_ three factors involved.. phone, gateway, server
@blumx: Glad things worked out. There are some pretty big discrepancies within the SyncML community on how to properly handle 'special' characters. Basically everyone is doing it there own way.. sometimes they're compatible and sometimes they're not. For example, I have no problems with non-ascii characters sent from the Nokia 9210, but it is a known issue that these don't work with the T-68 for me. Hopefully this is something that will be resolved very soon.

How come I always get a "Synchronization failed" message?
Posted by gomichaelkgo
Jeff,
I have some suggestions for the HTML client and a comment about the sync process. I had also set up a SyncML account with truesync.com.
In comparing the process, i notice that it always takes the SAME long time (about 8-10 minutes with CSD) to sync even if I have only changed one contact. With truesync, it would initially take a long time to sync, but then subsequent sync sessions only lasted about 20 seconds or so.
Also, the truesync.com html client had a nifty "delete all contacts" or "delete all calendar events" function, which was good in ensuring that contacts/events were not duplicated. It looked like I would have had to delete all 200 or so of my contacts one by one on the weblicon html client.
Too, it would be nice to be able to include/ un-include the columns in the contact listing or be able to reorder the columns. Our phones don't store addresses, so it would be more informative to show the phone numbers in the contact listing columns.
Thanks, I think you've done some great work!
-Michael
Posted by GOwin
Yeah, the HTML interface does need some improvement.
I deleted over 30 contacts (synched with outlook) the other day, and I had to delete them one a time.
Hmm... could the problem be with our networks? I tried increasing the timeout value to 300 (maximum for my R2G T39) but it seems that it didn't do anything good at all.

Gowin:
I tend to agree that the problem is with the Globe network. A lot had change since we started talking about gprs in this forum. I was failing the sync with weblicon also but I succeeded when I reduced the volume of data in my phonebook and calendar. Then I slowly filled it up by subsequent syncs. And like Gomichaelkgo, I also failed re-sync with Starfish without reducing the data.
Jeff:
Starfish has a complete multipoint utility to sync the celfone (some models of Ericsson, I guess), PC desktop PIM, Third party Web Based PIM (Yahoo) and their html/SyncML server. If Weblicon can come up with something like this plus the present wap browsing capability (not available in other servers), then it will be an attractive package for service providers and users.

The french accents (é, à, ù,...) are not handled properly.
Posted by arnoldc
@jnichols, i have a perfect first sync!
It took around 5 minutes or so to sync 102 contacts, on my T68 using the Ericsson developer gateway over Smart GPRS. At least weblicon got the numbers right, where truesync did not.
Maybe you should add Philippines now in your list of country codes
@gomichaelkgo, my second sync (with one modified contact) took less than 30 seconds.
@gowin, looks like Globe's GPRS is "choking."

That's great arnoldc!
Globe's Tech Support and Customer Service will get an earful from me later today!
@arnoldc
have you tried using SMART's standard gateway for synching?
Posted by arnoldc
@gowin, oh yes, i have synchornized using Smart's WAP gateway. It is a little bit slower though, i.e., 30 seconds using Ericsson developer gateway and 40 seconds using Smart's gateway.
Posted by peanut
Am I missing something here? I understood SynchML to mean synchronisation but I can only get it to upload. I.e. if I change something or delete something on the web/java client it DOESN'T change the phone. Is this correct? If so what exactly is the point?
Posted by gobrutz
Gowin & Arnoldc:
Starting about 2 weeks ago, Globe gprs network had intermittent problems. You get failed sync, wrong mailbox, invalid password, sms sending failed, etc. I am sure Globe people will term these glitches as "network upgrading". Same way Smart people called "massive cloning" as "system error" years ago.
Posted by GPRS
got sync today!
Posted by arnoldc
@peanut, synchronization is bi-directional.
@jnichols, when i synced my appointments, the time was terribly off. it's probably because there is no philippines in the country list, and my default was albania.
Posted by gobrutz
FYI, you can access Weblicon's wap site with the ffg. URL: www.weblicon.net or www.weblicon.com or www.weblicon.de. There you can browse entries that are not available in T68 for sync.
For convenience, you can bookmark the site after you have logged in with your user ID and password so that you won't have to enter them all the time. Conventional bookmarking will fail because the url is too long so you have to do it manually or wait for Jeff to come up with shorter URL. To do it manually, after logging in, go to wap menu and click "send as link" and then press "No". The url will be saved in your SMS "Unsent" option. You can then copy the URL up to the "password=........" and omit the rest that begins with "& dummy=....." If this is still too long, you might consider using shorter ID and password.

Hi,
Could I ask some of you experts to visit the 'SyncML for dummies' thread ?
(http://db2.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=3011&forum=14&0)
Much of the content of this forum has gone way beyond me, so I thought it would be useful to create a new thread for newcomers to SyncML.
Cheers.

Jeff,
Great product, works like a dream with my T68. A way to customize the HTML-client would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Fredrik

Congratulations to GPRS.
I'm not sure if the problem is indeed with our SP ('coz you use the same as mine) or with the number of contacts that I have (200+)
Posted by GPRS
@GOwin, Thanks bro. I used arnoldc settings..@arnoldc, Thanks!
Posted by GOwin
@GPRS
you mean the Ericsson gateway?
Posted by GOwin
Whee!!
I finally have synched my contacts. I didnt made any changes with my settings, I just thought i'd try it again.
It really most likely an SP problem.
@jnichols
Comments:
* I have 223 contacts on my phone but only 134 were synched. Im still checking which were left out
* The first synch took approximately 4 minutes (probably even less), suceeding syncs took several seconds.
* Can you pleae look at my transaction logs? I am wondering about the missing entries.

For Philippine users, set the timezone to Asia/Shanghai - it's the same as ours.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't responded in a while, but I've been _really_ busy. I've made a lot of changes to the server (I'll let you know when it's made public) in preparation for the upcoming syncfest (where I hope to earn official SyncML compliance).
@gomichaelkgo, if every sync is taking a 'long' time this means that the syncs are never really completing successfully and the server is forcing a 'slow sync' where all data is compared instead of just changed records.
I agree with everyone about the need of 'mass' deletions in our html client.. trust me.. I deal with this every day while I test my sync stuff. I'm doing my best to push that as well as a phone number column but I can't promise anything since I don't really have any part in the html client.
@lolongan, as I had mentioned before, it is a known issue that 'special' characters are not compatible between my server and the t68 (for explanation see one of my previous posts). However, this is one of my top priorities and I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.
@peanut, as arnoldc said, sync is supposed to be bi-directional. unfortunately, this is currently not the case with our java client or wap client. these are two other top priorities that I'll try to get cleared up soon. The html client is bi-directional, so if this is not working see what I said to gomichaelkgo.
@arnoldc, see GOwin's last post concerning time's. If the phone and the server aren't set to use the same time zone you'll definitely see some strange values (unless you live in Albania
@GOwin, congratulations! I know you've been trying for a while
Sorry about my novel length posts, but it's easier for me to handle all questions at one time. Thanks again to everyone that's giving us a try. You're really helping to improve the server, and I'll do my best to keep the improvements coming.

@jnichols/jeff
Whew! what a post
Well, i wasnt really paying attention with the synch process, the only time i took a look at it was when the alert sounded different - and found out that the sync was "successful".
I went to the site to check on the entries but found it to be missing, suceeding syncs doesn't seem to be updating them.
When do you plan to update the interface to allow easier simultaneous removal of multiple entries?
Thanks.

Hi.
Very interesting site!
One thing.... I'm from Norway and we have some letters that does not exist in english... æ/Æ ø/Ø å/Å
Is it possible to use these letters without the site converting them?
Posted by GOwin
@Glenn,
that question had been answered a few posts ago in this thread.
the weblicon syncML server does not support accented characters at the moment.
read the thread first please.
Posted by peanut
Managed to get it synching now
Posted by ca_abarro
@jnichols
Im also having that 'Synchronization Interrupt' error, my username is ca_abarro. My phone is T68 and it will sync for about 2 minutes then the error will pop-out.
I have my subscription there in the site. I have sync using the one provided by truesync and it work fine.
Im pushing to sync to your server coz it can store all the numbers and info, while on true sync, it stores only a few...
Im also from the philippines using Globe as my SP. Please help, is it my SP? or is there something wrong with my setup?
Thanks...
