SEARCH Flames.

Just a quick note to all members that think it is their god given right to flame anyone asking a question.

Take a few things into account before having a moan about doing searches.

Sometimes it is right to find the right parameters to search for and therefore a search comes up fruitless, you might know the right terms to search for, but not everyone does.

Have a look at the users post count, if it is low (1-2) you can bet it is someone who has come to the site to ask a specific question and wants a quick answer (a flame is in order there I guess) If the post count is in the 100's, then you would be safe in assuming that the user is well adversed with the rules and workings of this site, and have more than likely done a search, EG: I only post after searching through Esato AND google (but as mentioned before, sometimes finding the right parameters is sometimes hard).

So pull your heads in and if you do want to flame someone, do it in a manner that is inoffensive.

please notice these rules: http://www.esato.com/board/forumrules.php

anyways.. what happened diggs? personal attack?

Posted by Diggs09
I wouldnt call it a personal attack, it has just happened to me a few times now, if I cant find something after a search through here and on google I will put a post up, and some d******d tells me to do a search.

Like I said, look at my post count, I am obviously not new to Esato and I familiar with the rules.

And if someone genuinely needs to be told to do a search, help them out at least and put the link, coz if you have had the time to see it was easy to find and are replying to their post, you might as well include the links.

Just had to vent is all Chip.

if someone tells u to do a search they pobably now that u can find the fact on esato. maby u can try some different words when u search.

some of us are not as smart as them... haha

Posted by Diggs09

Just ignore them dude, some people are just a%$*holes. Don't let them drag you down with them. You know that they probably spend half their lives on esato and the other half masterbating furiously over Kylie Minogue.

really is that what you lot do???
just kidding..

I do many searches myself and provide search results in replies to others questions...

however I do find the search facility frustraing sometimes because it seems to have a lot of words that are ignored.

I can understand ignoring a word if used on its own with little else but in many searches I perform I see that the ignored word combined with the others words I used would have produced exactly the results I want. Instad, I have to wade through pages of stuff to find what I want.

IMHO this word ignoring should be switched off. I have never seen google ignore words!

Good point

well, I mean, ppl usually get pissed off when ppl post a thread like "what is the service menu code for T68i?" or "what is the flashing green LED for?" and other such stupid questions... if it's something like "what is ur favorite car" I understand the person not doing a search and getting pissed if he got flamed for it cuz the thread already exists...

but for questions where the answer to it has most likely been asked, it is a good idea to try to search

to the moderators, I believe a sticky topic shld b placed at the top of appropriate forums with answers to frequently asked questions
kind of like at my-symbian

that has killed A LOT of repeated threads from reappearing

@Diggs09 - Amen. ^_^

or alternatively: a separate FAQ section with a (locked) thread per phone might be the answer. might save some bandwidth too (mods!!)
