With the Financial problems of Ericsson, the future of SonyEricsson is maybe sony buying the 50-50 share of Ericsson in the joint venture.

Read the article on CNET:

http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handphones/0,39001719,39080302,00.htm

the article writes

Ericsson: "We will not put any more capital into the joint venture if it does not show results."

cnet: "there still remains a great deal of optimism about Sony Ericsson products, both from the consumers and the analysts. "

"hould Ericsson decide to halt its investment in the venture, Sony may well buy over a larger stake in the 50-50 entity. This would put the Japanese company in the driving seat of the partnership, but, essentially, the handset operation and products will remain intact."

Sony always nade rubbish phones anyway, before Ericsson came in.

Sony have ruined ericsson, they where always known for good design and leading the market. Now se seen to be just market followers with some of the worst design i've ever seen (the t610?)

Posted by gzumba
And the 4ever classic T68 was ericsson's swan song.

Well.. I think their problem is design too. Need more nice looking phones, EG. T68/i, T200, R600, T28,T29. Nice looking phones, phones that appeal, not phones that make people go "ULGY".

This could really cause problems world wide. We don't want bloody Sony Phones... Ericsson gives it that kick, Ericsson is the real company in this. Not sony. Sony couldn't make an attractive mobile if an idea bit them fair on the arse.

There must be something sony and ericsson (not handset devision) can do. They both have plenty of money.

I think the big problem though, is the look of the phones.

Interesting statement, "Sony ruined Ericsson"

Rescued them from oblivion, is the reality, their phones were utter poop, and were selling VERY badly.

My first mobile was a Sony, the analouge CMR111,a cute little palmphone with a flip down arm.
It was light years ahead of the competition, I will agree that they may have fooked up the styling, the new one's look very Sony 'RETRO', but the technology is all Sony and better for it.

Lets see the design of all the Sony products, how can we define it ??? well wonderfull, clean, nice whatever, Sony makes the best design, just see the Wega Theater, Television, MD, MP3 player, Clié, VAIO, .... All these products are just too beatifull so I don't think that Sony is really behind the design of phones. My point of view ....

Look my good Sony and Ericsson funs there is no need to fight because the two companies are grate we can see that in the past years.
It is true that Ericsson for a big time was the leader in mobile phones, do you remember the legentery GH388 tell me what company made a phone that time to stand next to it.
So the conclusion is that Ericsson is a strong company, some said in 1998-1999-2000 Ericsson was leading the 40% of the worldwide market, but there is something that they didn’t tell us (the 40% in telephonic senters ,servers and military radars).
I can ensure you for that, so the profit for Ericsson in mobile phones was small after the release of some Nokia models<>but unfortunately for the people that bought them and fortunately for Nokia the models soled mach peaces in the European market.
So this is the time that Sony comes into the game a coliseum enterprise with grate technology and height money resources but with nothing special to saw in the mobile phones section.
It was like the bride with all the qualifications (Ericsson) had married the rich husband (Sony).
My personal opinion is that it was necessary because two of my favourite companies are now one, and I believe that after the release of p800 there are many to wait for us.

Actually you will find that the majority of the technology is Ericsson. Sony are supposed to provide the style, marketing etc. Many of the features / design / internals are still largly ericsson. All of SE low range phones use the same software / menu system found in the t39, which originated in the t20. Evn the T610i menu design is very similar to the T68

I will agree that Ericsson is still the leader in technology. They do make mobile systems, so they know better than anyone how to optimizse the technology in the phones.

I think they just merged, because Sony phones looked like crap, but sony had money, something Ericsson didn't.

I think if sony was behind styling the phones, we would have nice phones. I have sony everything. MD Player, Discman, VCR, DVD, Plazma, Flat Screen, Monitor, Digital camera. They all look great, but the phones are my biggest concern at the moment.

Whats wrong with Sony ?? this is the reason for why I bought my P800 and T68i. If it wasnt for Sony I wouldnt even think to touch Ericsson. And by the way the Z7 was a great handset at its time, much more than ericssons handsets thats for sure.
So guys- Sony is whats matters not Ericsson.

This article is from more than 6 months ago!

That is too far in the past to make any determinations on SE's future.

Ericsson MAKES mobile systems worldwide.... Sony makes music and TV, they are not phone people. Without Ericsson Sony would be stuck with about 4 crappy looking, stupid working mobiles that about 10 people buy.

Without Ericsson Mobile phones wouldn't be what they are today. Who do you think started all the trends, then Nokia took them, released 10 products at once and Nokia was on the board.

Posted by gareb
As I said before. Why dont Sony make the screens and Ericsson the phones.Together nobody gonna beat that phone

Posted by bart
the problem is that most people stay whit the brand they have, in this case nokia is on top, only samsung seems to exite people to go for a new brand. needs more phones on the market.

As I said in another time each company has sections for the devises that are assembled from them, there are different sections for monitors & TV sets different for mobile phones different for entertainment devises (like ps1,ps2) and different for military products (radars wireless army networks satellite devices etc.)
Now when a section doesn’t goes good the profit from the others helps him.
But if he continues to fall in the market sales then the company has to do something about it.
This is what happen in Ericsson Swedish mobile telecommunications (it was the section for all Ericsson mobile phones), when Nokia relished in the market all the garbage phones like 3210,3310,8210,3330 and all this shit.
But the phones were good looking cheap and for someone who wants only to speak with his phone were o.k. (except for their batteries).
That’s how Ericsson singed up the agreement with Sony, and now SonyEricsson is a new section combined from the two companies it has nothing to do with TVs or hi-fis it works on its own.
And something about the disagrees between Sony and Ericsson ,when to companies with grate technology knowledge combine together the sure thing is that something good will happen (we can see that with P800) so let’s wait a little bit more and I believe the design will be better by time.

How can you be against Sony!? When Sony made their CMD-Z5 Ericsson had T28 and you think they made bether phones. Sony made only a couple of phones and 50% of them were very good but Ericsson made a zillion of them and only T68 was something good.

Posted by Avatar235
And don't forget, Ericsson also made most if not all of the Landline Digital Switching Terminals, connecting all phone calls in most countries.
I feel that Sony and Ericsson made good phones for different reasons, but when they merged, look what a revolution they started, when i got my t68i, it was the greatest thing anyone had ever seen.

I totally agree with you SonyBoy. If it wasn't for Sony, I would never of contemplated on buying an Ericsson phone, but then again... I wouldn't be buying Nokia either (just bad experiences with Nokia)

Look, everybody has there likes and dislikes, but what I love most about Sony is the parts. I still have this very old beta video camera recorder. I couldn't believe when I was still able to get new battery for it, even after it was over 15 yrs old.

Sony also does it for me in many ways, from Innovation, style, accessories, Quality... etc.etc!

That is my 2cents worth!

What about T39 - T28 - T20 ??? Well in fact the whole "T" serie, they where extremely good

Posted by kingkong
it's already happenning. did you notice the t610? the YES and NO keys are no longer there. the light that is usually found at the top of each ericsson phone is gone!

Posted by Jim
What ??? no way, the green flashing led is gone ??????? This is impossible and yes it's a shame for the Yes and No buttons, looks like a Nokia now ...

Posted by bart
needs to get there phones on the market sooner and in greater number. there number 6 now on the best selling phone company's. LG beat them because they sell good in asia.
now has a primary market in the us CDMA phones
europe will folow later

@jim, check
http://www.sonyericsson.com/trythephone/t610/en/

i didn't see the green led.

Posted by jonbob.com
It's there - shown in one of the reviews. But the loss of YES and NO as well as nokia power key infuriates me no end. But shit happens, and SE know a lot more about designing phones than I.

Posted by vanquish
face it

ericsson weren't good, except for the t68. im proud of having a sony ericsson cos ericsson made the best colour phone and sony just rule the electronic market. ericsson nerly went bust then sony came along. sony ericsson is the next big thing. its quality. sony didnt ruin ericsson, but helped it to show its true best. they are both good. without sony no p800. without ericsson no t68I. there both shit, and there both good. sony really piss me off though. im surprises fones arent ded expensive like all the other sony crap

where wud da world be without Sony AND ERICSSON?????????????

Posted by jonbob.com
Ericsson always has been synonymous with quality - makes you wonder how they got into financial trouble, but sony phones aren't that good however they do excel at design and marketing.

I just wish they had made the T610 out of magnesium like my Sony Minidisc walkman.

Posted by vanquish
totally magnesium makes all the difference including the

PRICE!!!!

i have a sony phone (cmd-j7) after having 10-12 phones in the last 6 years and working in the gsm business and i gotta tell u it's one of the best phones i 've ever had! I can't however say the same thing about the SE phones ... they have lots of problems with the sw ( the sony works like a watch!) ...there u have it, that's why Ericsson went bankrupt...and pls read my other posts regarding this very subject.Good they found Sony!

Posted by hotweiss
Goto www.sony.co.jp and find their mobile phones. As you will soon conclude their phones are years ahead... If they wanted they could take over the whole gsm market, but i'm sure economic politics are halting that.
