a question for people who use WAP & GPRS sites...

i am curious as to why you would go to wap sites if you have a GPRS connection to the real internet?

although it does seem cheaper (less kB) - a webpage even with piccies turned off still sucks up the kilobytes...

so my question: when should i use WAP, how do i know if a WAP version of a page even exists, and should i use a different (Basic WAP) connection for it?

i don't get it: u want to know the difference between CSD wap (analogue 9,6 kbps/sec) against GPRS wap ( max 156 kbps/sec)? ..basicly?

I'd suggest using GPRS at all times. Sure, downloading the page takes up kb but once it's there, you can look at it for however long you want. With GSM WAP you are more than likely charged at a flat rate per minute, which works out more expensive.

well, let's say not only the time factor but the fact that it's faster to load the page ....and using bulk gprs saves money if u surf a lot..like me

sorry the question was worded poorly... what i kinda meant was how do i know if there is a wap version of a site or XHTML so that it can load quicker and take up less kb?

there is one way u can find out but that is when u actually load it:)) If u have a t68i or a t200/t300/p800 it will load xhtml...other than that i think they won't load xhtml. My phone doesn't.In short, i don't think u can find out

You cant tell unless you can view identical site via web and wap browser - that would be xhtml site-if u put wap site (wml laguage) into web browser it wil not load

a properly designed site is able to determine the client connected to it (IE, Netscape, Opera, Openwave, etc.) and adjust the content and presentation accordingly, i.e. HTML, cHTML, WAP 1.x

with XHTML, it will be easier for the web developers to deliver the same contents to different clients due to the large amount of common code that is shared. sometimes, this feature is taken to the hilt and taken for granted.

I would f d site is a wap site when a certain wap site has wap or mobile in its addres

try them with WAP at the beginning instead of www, e.g. wap.google.com gets you googles wap portal. and wap.ebay.co.uk gets u ebay uk's wapsite (although it doesn't seem to work very well)

I think the question not fully answered is why surf GPRS WAP when you can surf GPRS full internet. If the answer was not clear from previous posts I'll try to make it clearer here: Many of us use GPRS only for WAP. I would pay a lot more on T-Mobile USA for full a internet data connection.

While paying 4$ flat rate 4unlimited wap over gprs ,to use it as full internet connection it d cost me 2$ per mb. i achieved this (1mb) by surfing 10minutes haha no thanks!

Using wap over gprs thru ur phone only is cheaper or sometimes still free.Limitation though wud be ur phone's display colord or not.For gprs with full internet connection, this wud be xpensive based on ur network's rates especialy if ur phone is conectd to a pda or a pc.

I use wap over GSM as I have inclusive offpeak minutes to use up. Although I do use the GPRS service on vodafone during the peak times, I still prefer to see WAP pages for the concise data it provides, as a full blown HTML page is hard to view on a mobile device.

Try google on wap;-)

i can view wap\\xhtml or full internet but wap is so much faster and uses way less data than full internet plus the page is designed for the small screen.

Sorry for my newbie question but... HOW do I configure my WAP browswer on the T68i to work over GPRS? I have GPRS that I'm using to link a laptop or even to pull email (POP3) to my phone but the browser allways fail to work and come back with timeout error message. I tried for example to go to wap.google.com...

Please help

Thanks!
