Hi,

I've got a usb irda setup MA620 USB to be precise, I've selected the baudrate of 38400 because I hear you have problems with anything higher than that. When I send something to the PC it says its connected at 9600bps ? is there anyway to increase this, surely if I've selected teh baudrate at 38400, it would be a little bit higher than that?

the ma620 has a maximum rate of 115k, you can just leave it at max, your fone afaik is capable of the same rate, the transfer rate will depend on the size of the file if its to small it will not connect on max rate but rather on a rate sufficient to do the xfer, to reach the max you can try by using your phone as a modem, just remember the 115k rate is just between your phone and the pc.

hope this helps

how do i use it as a modem ?

Firstly, download the Sony Ericsson modem driver for your phone. Then install it.

From Windows, Make a New Connection, choosing the port with the Infrared adaptor. Enter the dial-up number, username, and password, and the computer should connect to the phone, provided the phone is connected to the infrared port!

IRDA was only intended for a max of 115k. There is some software the's able to use compression to get higher rates but most phones don't support such protocals beyond the IRDA max standard of 115k.
