Data Cable Setup fot T300

Hi

I have recently purchased a Sony Ericsson T300. I have also got a serial data cable which the phone detects. However, I'm unable to conect my phone to the PC.

Could anyone please help me run thru a series of steps that i need ot follow to connect my phone to the PC.

Also, what software should i use? I was tryin to use the software provided by Sony at it's website but the software did not detect the T300
