I've got a Sony Ericsson T300 and I'm new to all this technical stuff, tho I have used WAP for ages. My main question is that I have followed O2 instructions on setting up 'Mobile Web' for the Email function on the phone, but it still won't work.
When I try to send an e-mail I get a message 'Cannot find server', then 'Wrong Access point name (APN)'. But I have used the APN as it says on the setup. I'm desperate to send these emails from the phone, but I haven't got a clue why it isn't working.
Also when I try to send an MMS message 'Network or communication error please check your settings and try again' but I'm positive that the settings are correct.
Can anyone help? Anyone from O2?
Thanks,
Ben

you need to phone up (useless)O2 and get them to enable MMS and GPRS. Alternatively one of their untrained monkeys (jalu, but he is one of the very rare 'trained' ones!) often visits these forums and might be able to help you out.
Regards,
Phil.

Im on o2 online! Ive got the first contracts they did 3yrs ago unlimited wap and txt messaging! Why should I pay extra and loose that for GPRS, MMS? Why cant I Just have it activated by o2 I Cant understand them @ jalu your an o2 expert answer me that! Thanx

Hi,
I'm on PostPay. I've got online 50 now, GPRS has been activated and via the settings for O2 WAP GPRS, I can now send emails, and use WAP, I can also use the free WAP minutes on O2 WAP GSM.
The problem I'm left with is that my MMS still isn't working and I could sawear by the settings being correct. But I still get the message: 'Network or Communication error. Please check your settings and try again.'
If its activated by O2 and the settings are correctthere shouldn't be a problem right? The GPRS was activated last night, is it right in thinking that the MMS should start working after exactly 24hours or what?
Thanks
Ben

'Fraid I can't help with o2 online - they use whole different systems to us (normal o2) and I don't know how they work.
The only advice I can offer is that they have more people doing emails than phone tech support and apparently it's better to email.
Online is a double edged sword...you get great text offers but on the other hand you have problems with tech support.
Were you aware that there are some good deals on prepay? You're currently paying (if you're on o2 online prepay, anyway) £10 for 300 texts - on prepay you can get 200 for £5.
Anyway, enough of that sales pitch, I'm just saying that maybe normal o2 might be better for you, if you ever have difficulties. I was o2 online myself for a while and switched to normal o2, online can be a bit lax sometimes.

Hi Jalu, I'm using o2 (UK) Pay as you Go, and i was wondering if it was possible for me to get GPRS?
Posted by Miss UK
Hi Thanx for the Information Jalu, Ive been on o2 all my life. I was one of the first to have the Digi phones on "CELLNET 'U' PREPAY" '98'
I Then changed to the Normal "BT CELLNET" PAYG but I found it was expensive every month so then I got the Genie Contract, im paying less with them which is better for me and no where else cannot bet my Tarriff "FREE UNLIMITED TXT & WAP" etc etc
o2 Online are probaly the worst corresponders but there Contracts are value for money!
I Will get a Prepay Sim for MMS then!!!
Thankyou for your infortmation

@maddav
Yes, you can use GPRS.
At the moment, Prepay does not have a billing method for GPRS, meaning it's free. However, it's worth noting that the bigwigs are talking about retro-billing (ie billing you for what you've used in the past once a billing method is worked out).
Your choice if you want to use it

I had a similar problem when I put my o2 online sim in a new gprs and mms enabled phone. You have to first get the settings off the o2 website for both gprs and mms (I believe you've already done that) then ring up o2 online customer care (i know its expensive but its worth it as they take days to respond to emails) and ask for gprs AND mms to be provisioned on your account. Make sure you ask for both as just because you have gprs doesnt mean you can send mms. It'll take a while for mms to activate, give it 24hrs to be sure, then turn your phone off and on again and it should work. If this dont work then you'll have to take it further with customer care i'm afraid.

I sent this to o2 onlinel
I would like my O2 sim card to be GPRS enabled please. I have the phone settings
from the website, but it says GPRS is not enabled on my phone and was told to
contact my service provider.
Many Thanks.
and this was my reply;
Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.
Unfortunately, the GPRS WAP service is not currently available for
prepay customers. You can still take advantage of our basic WAP
services using the existing GSM network, by sending the settings to
your phone, which can be found on our website using the below link:
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileinternet/setupwap/0,,131,00.html
You can also find information about our full range of services
including MMS, by visiting http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices
If you should have any further questions, please visit our online Help
Centre at:

Kind regards,
O2 Customer Service.
I know loads of friends who have payandgo and GPRS available, so wtf is this about? Any ideas?

How long did they take to reply to you? I have had a problem ordering a contract from them and sent an email last wednesday and now 10days later i still have no reply

About a week to reply to second and just over a week for first email.
Not too bad i guess, but my problem is still not fixed and i have friends with payG sim who can send MMS, so i dont see why i can't! can someone talk me through setting up an email address for my phone? At least then i can send pictures via that!
Posted by o44wen
Your o2 email address for your phone is '+44yourphonenumber@mmail.com but i dont think you can send picture thru it. You will find the details of switching on the email address on the o2 website. Look under the site map. The best way for you to put pictures on you phone would be to uploads them to either esato website or the se website. And then direct your wap brouser to their site

Haha! Retro paying!!! That'll never happen, they can sing for it if they try, I've got 200+ hours free so far on gprs, so what would they "retro charge" me for that?

thx, its not that kind of email i want tho, otherwise i would jus use a text message. i want to be able to send the message straight to the other persons phone w/ picture attached.
I host my own space so i get any pictures that way if i want anyway, or use BTth. maybe just sending them the link to the pictures i want via text would be as good i guess...
