Well, since we're talking about Sex, Cars, Football and other unrelated stuff, I just wanted to know if there are any of you out there who have a passion for, or at least an interest in firearms. I have been into guns ever since I can remember and I would like to know your thoughts on the subject. I would also like to know what in your opinion are the best firearms and ammunition ever made and why. I don't claim to be an expert but I will also try to answer questions regarding firearms and for those questions beyond my capacity to answer, maybe like minded individuals among you can help me. For those who hate guns you can also voice out your opinion in this forum so we can discuss these things like educated people.

To start with here are my initial salvo of choices on the best firearms ever made:
Colt 1911A1 .45 cal pistol- A fossil considering its age but still one of the better guns out there. Nice design, good balance and a very effective caliber
Colt 5.56mm M-16 rifle variants- much maligned during the vietnam war but has proven itself in the various theatres and operations that it has been part of.
Glock pistol variants- Revolutionized the way guns are made. Didn't like it at first but learned to appreciate it especially the Glock 21 and 30(.45 cal variants)
Heckler and Koch USP and Mk23 .45 cal pistol variants- nice design, used by special ops, great durability and reliability and promises to be a successor to the 1911.
Ruger .44 magnum Super Blackhawk revolver- Can't find a use for this powerful single action revolver, but its one of my favorites because of its stopping power, accuracy, and nice feel.
What do you guys think?

I like the mp5 m5 version. Also the m4-any variant and the p90

Posted by doctabako
Nice choices, all sub-machine guns and all available in counterstrike. You must be a player:-)

I like the para-ordnance. It has the enduring qualities of the 1911 w/ more rounds. Btw congrats doctabaco 4 nice topic. Shooters ready! Standby...toot!

Posted by doctabako
Thanks.I agree with your choice, in addition the 14.45"limited" version out of the box is nice for practical shooting but could do well with the addition of hi-viz sights. Verify!!!

Nice! Anybody here know where can i find a cal.22 magnum auto pistol? AMT brand or equiv.

Posted by doctabako
If you're talking about the automag II, I believe that would be hard to come across here in the Philippines. Good luck in your search though.

I have a beretta witch i shoudnt realy brag about since i dont posses the licence for it hehe ... Regards Laz

A full-auto Glock! - the best pistol IMO

Posted by terence
@doctabako i use to play counterstrike but now im into airsoft wargames. I have an mp5 m5 navy gun at my house. Im planning to buy an m4 carbine R.I.S. or knights version

Posted by putin
AK-74 :-)

Posted by doctabako
@terrence wonderful hobby used to play that before i graduated to real guns, it teaches you the rudiments of gun handling and safety. It's also the closest thing to a real whup ass gunfight since you get to shoot at real people.:-D

Posted by terence
@doctabako hehe! Hell yeah. It's real fun but a very expensive game. Havent tried firing a real gun but i saw my friend fire an m4 carbine. Wow! Didnt have much recoil but it sounded like a cannon.

Posted by doctabako
Actually the muzzle blast of a 16inch barreled M4 is actually an improvement over its predecessors the 10 inch xm177e1 aka infant armalite and 11.5 inch xm177e2 aka commando which had a much louder report. The loudest guns i've fired so far are the .30-06 M1 garand, .308 M14 and the .44 mag super blackhawk which sounds like a power transformer blowing up.

Posted by terence
Wow! I see u have a lot of experience with guns. By the way, what would u recommend are the best airsoft guns and upgrades on them?

Posted by vwbeetle
have a jericho 9mm compact

Posted by doctabako
@terence i think you would be more knowledgeable in that field. I haven't played with an airsoft gun since 1994 during the time when tokyo hanna still sold them.

Posted by terence
U should try playing again some time. There are alot of new guns out in the market

Posted by doctabako
Maybe i could check it out one of these days, where do you guys buy your gear nowadays? You should also try practical and IDPA shooting with real guns. Not as flashy but more challenging.

Posted by terence
I'll try ur advice sometime. The airsoft sport have been getting bigger and bigger. Gears can be found almost everywhere

Posted by Traxxx
Thanks doc, yes, automag II.

Posted by doctabako
Additional favorites: Colt Python .357 magnum revolver - one of the nicest and smoothest trigger pulls one can get out of the box. Nice balance, lesser recoil than other similar revolvers and very accurate.

Posted by doctabako
The government's directive revoking current permits to carry really suck. I mean why pick on us licensed gun owners when we're barely 5% of the total. Now the new req't is to have an actual death threat. What stupidity!!!

Posted by terence
That sucks! Might as well get an illegal gun. Hehe

Posted by doctabako
Precisely the point, now even licensed gun owners who have a real need to carry their firearms will be forced to do an illegal act when just granting permits will solve the problem. Because of all this the problem of loose firearms will only escalate.

walther ppk.

Posted by doctabako
Great gun and very concealable too. Downside is its only available in small calibers(.22,.25.32,.380) which necessitate good shot placement. you must also be a fan of james bond films since that was the gun he was using before he switched to the the walther P99.

@Doc: yup! Vodka martini, shaken, not stirred

Posted by g17
How about that? The FED wont allow me to take my shotguns out of the house even for gunsmithing!? Not good!

Posted by boysaint
currently i own a Heckler&Koch USP, Taurus 357 magnum, and a Glock 19 for everyday carry. will this qualify me to join this group? hello to all.

Posted by looney
Ei guys! Sum1 tryd breakng hn my haus wyl i was at wrk. My wyf got reali shuk up. Considrng d ntrudr tryd openng our dor. I thot of gettng myself a gun, 1 dats not so xpensiv. Any suggestns?

Posted by doctabako
@g17 i feel your frustration. I would bring the gun to the smith anyway. Who'll know. @ boysaint everybody's welcome. @looney if you are a beginner i would suggest that you get a revolver since there are fewer things that can go wrong since its manual of arms is simpler. Get something at least in .38 cal so it would have stopping power. Taurus makes great revolvers in the 11 to 18 thousand pesos range. Be sure your wife also practices with it so it won't be a liability if the need arises

Posted by looney
Doc, i hav used n maintaind my dads colt comdr. I feel more comfi wid a pistol. Was thinkng of a 9mm mayb. Saw a 9mm taurus, luks preti lyk a beretta. Costs a lil x, 28t hir n cbu. Knw of a cheapr kind?

Posted by doctabako
Taurus is good brand since they use dies used by smith and wesson and Beretta before they booted them out of brazil. There are cheaper guns in 9mm by cz,feg, tanfoglio and others but can't vouch for them since i haven't tried them out since i'm partial to larger calibers, but some of my shooting buddies love them especially the cz75. Since you can handle a .45 the norinco 1911A1 is an accurate, durable and reliable alternative. Cheaper too at less than 15 T. Just make sure you get the genuine article.

Posted by looney
Grazzie doc. U sure hav enlytnd me. Let u knw wen i get 2 purchase 1. L8r doc.;-)

Posted by doctabako
No problem. Glad to help.

Posted by boysaint
i've asked this before, but never happened yet... but this time, now that there's this thread.... will there be an EB in a shooting range?

Posted by doctabako
Not a bad idea but judging from the responses there are very few of us and we're spread far apart:-)

Posted by boysaint
and i forgot, sorry.... not everyone had their PTC and PTT again. so i guess no EB at the shooting range. unless we go there without these toys of ours, and just talk and show each other's licenses and/or pictures.
(only holduppers can bring their guns without PTC now, right?)

Posted by 619
i always carry my gun... and matching kapote- 0.03mm

Posted by doctabako
PTT is easy enough it's the the PTC that's really hard to get. Here in Batangas almost everyone still carry their guns, even long arms at that, since enforcement is hard to accomplish and everyone knows everybody. To hell with the ptc, as we love to say. Its better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it when the need arises.;-)

Posted by boysaint
that's right! very true.
i just hope the 'antis' will realize that (better to have one and not need...) and stop bothering us. here in metro manila the situation may be different.... the police will rather go after licensed guns brought out, than the unlicensed ones used by the bad guys.

Posted by doctabako
Their ineptness is showing. They try to control us licensed gun owners because that's the only thing they can control:-D the idea of deterrence escapes them. Not realizing that criminal elements will be emboldened knowing that we can't fight back. Stupid people!!!

Posted by boysaint
doctabako,
<"They try to control us licensed gun owners because that's the only thing they can control:-D the idea of deterrence escapes them. Not realizing that criminal elements will be emboldened knowing that we can't fight back.">

what i can't understand is that why they (the supposed 'authorities', and the 'antis') seem to not be aware of that! they should be the experts in that issue! haven't the fact dawned on their brains yet that banning guns from law-abiding citizens mean disarming the meek and, yes... emboldening criminals, knowing that we are defenseles!

Posted by bonito99
hard to pack in your pants an MP5
Anyway, anyone looking for an extra magazine for an uzi (9mm)?

Posted by doctabako
To be fair to the authorities my military and police gun buddies say that they don't like the ban but madame gloria is set on it so they have to follow orders. They say things will be better after the elections of 2004. I doubt that,If sen. Lacson wins it will even be more strict. Remember what happened to the issuance of permits during his stint as chief pnp. Sigh..when will it end.:-(

Posted by boysaint
Doc T,
again, you're correct! i remember those days that you're talking about. but why will she...er, he win? there will be a whole bunch of former "friends" there wanting to win also. hell, we're being political analyst here already, just because of those wrong implementations. anyway.... did you say someone said things will be better for us after 2004? who said that? and what made him/her say that? you may PM me if these things get too sensitive. thanks.

Aside frm a pistol, a 12 ga. shotgun wil be a gud choice for home defens. Though one might think the recoil could b too much, practice wil help u learn how to handle it. Try renting one at the range, mostly P200 per session + P17 per round. 10 to 20 rounds shuld b enough to make u get the feel. Prices of shotguns range frm P15T to P70T. Blast the ground near the intruders if they try again!

Posted by boysaint
i would try something closer than the ground where the intruder is standing. he is inside my house already, and i know he isn't there to congratulate me on my successful life at that time of the night. nor would he admire my benelli M90's nice finish.
