Sync with Lotus Notes

Has anyone successfully synchronised with any other version of Lotus Notes (apart from the "officially" recognised versions of 4.6 and 5.0) ? I've managed to synchronise the mail of Notes V5.0.8 but nothing else. The synchronisation seems to go through but nothing appears in the phone ! When I contacted the tech support guys at SE, they said that they can't guarantee it to work on Notes 5.0.8 or Windows 2000 SP3 or a Toshiba Tecra 9000 with a Bios version of 2.04 or.... (any excuse !)

To top this, I sold off my old reliable R380 which synchronsed everything with Notes perfectly !!!

Hate to say this but I would have thought that Sony merging with Ericsson would have made better products !

hi there, I have synchronised with 5.0.5 - no problems, except make sure that:

1. your %path% variable is set to include your Notes directory, e.g. C:Notes then it can find the files. (are you in Win 2000? this can be set in System Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables). I used to get a message that it couldn't find notes.ini until I did this...

2. Under the synchronisation options, explicitly specify the Notes database names and passwords, e.g. names.nsf for contacts, whatever.nsf for your mail file (tasks, mail, calendar) not forgetting to point to mailwhatever.nsf if the file is on a server (not local replica)

3. Do a 'full synchronisation' first, this will ensure that everything comes across.

Hope this helps.

Helen.

P.S. I still have my old R380 if you want one

Thanks Hezz. How much would you want for your R380 ? Is it unlocked ?

Well, I've progressed from where I was. Upgraded Lotus Notes Client to V6.01 and most things are synchronising OK now apart from :

1. Contacts - still no joy even though I've specified the local path and names.nsf db name.
2. Calendar - only new items get sync'd.

I'm not too worried about point 2 BUT the most important thing for me is to get the Contacts sync'd - more than the mail/to do/ Calendar items. That seems to be the only one not working at all !

Any other suggestions ?

hi Hezz,

how's the sync with LN? can you sync Contacts directories? how about calendar and To-Do, can you sync only new additions?

I'm syncing with a Notes 6 Client at work. However, we are running version 5 of the Lotus Domino server, so that makes some difference I would think.

Merkur, That's exactly what I have now - Lotus Notes client V6.01 and Notes Domino Server V5.08. Have you managed to sync the contacts ? The only thing I can now think of doing tomorrow is creating a new contact and see if that syncs across. It maybe that old contacts don't sync across !

I can't believe the amount of time I've spent on this. I remember having bought the Motorolla Accompli when it came out only to be told that they would not support Notes. So I decided straight away to return that phone and abandon Motorolla altogether. Seems like Sony are doing the same thing !

I started syncing from Notes Client 5.

My company migrated from Outlook to Lotus 3 years ago and that gave me trouble when trying to sync P800 with Lotus. You see, when the conversion was done some calendar entries became corrupted. I was able to sync Contacts and nothing else.
I work for a Telecom operator so I was able to get help from SE. They spotted the issue with these corrupted calendar entries. The solution was: Delete them!

The symptoms my computer's showed were the following:
Syncing started as normal but then the Virtual memory filled up and the components for syncing started freezing up one by one.

Is your computer showing anything like that? Is your Contact list local or on server?

hi Manu,
-I bought my R380 on Vodafone, no idea if it's unlocked as I haven't tried another SIM card in it .. can try it with an O2 card when I get home if you're interested... How much would I want? Make me an offer if you're serious!...

- On my sync settings for Contacts I have:
local
names.nsf
password typed in

I guess you have tried "forcing" a full synchronisation (tick box on the Full Synchronisation screen)

It should be possible to sync other Notes address books, e.g. shared directories on a server (I have done it before with my R380) but you have to be careful which direction you sync them - as previously my personal contacts entries from the phone, ended up in a shared directory used by the whole company the sync seemed to bypass the security that disallowed write access to the shared directory!...

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get there in the end!

Thanks Merkur & Hezz/Helen,

Merkur, my contacts are stored locally and there were no symptoms worth mentioning ! The sync seemed to go through (analyse/transfer etc.) although a bit too quickly. If I put a dummy password - it didn't work. So, it seems to connect to the Notes db but can't seem to read or right anything !

Helen, I've managed to find a way around my problem. As I mentioned, the most important thing was to get contacts working. Well, here's what SE have made me do - I've got ahold of Organiser 6. I export from Notes 6 (into Vcards) and import into Organiser 6. Then I sync and almost everything seems to work (but not quite everything !). Anyway, I can now make and receive calls and for the first time in a week, I'm looking at the other functionality on the phone (which so far seems quite good).

I am dissapointed in SE though. I've programmed in the past and would be ashamed to admit having created bad quality programs. I've been trying to find out who developed the sync software for the P800 but no one wants to admit to it (which is understandable !). So, its compatible with Lotus Notes 4.6 and 5 - well obviously NOT with anything between 4.6 and 5 and 5.01, 5.02, 5.03, 5.05, 5.06, 5.07, 5.08, 5.09. 5.10, 5.11, 5,12 and definitely not 6 (which can I say was released well before the P800) ! What really annoyed me was the SE technical support saying that Windows 2000 SP3 was not supported ! I reckon if I said that I was syncing in London or that I was Iraqi that they would made that an excuse !

I really think its a shame and hope that SE try and recover the service. I sincerely hope that they work on the sync with Notes (remember that Lotus has a dominant position in the email market !) and get it working soon (otherwise its goodbye to SE) !

Thanks for the offer of the R380, but I guess I won't nee it now. To be honest I wouldn't have known what to pay for it either as I've given mine to a friend for 30 GBP (including quite a few accessories) !

Hi: I have LN 6.0 on my PC (not conneted to a server) and i got everything sync OK, except for the Jotter. I've made some twists on the registry.

If you want email me for details.
