I don't think the coverage is very good in the desert anyway, unless they use (Thuraya) satellite phones (actually Ericsson had one I think)...

Though this thread does sound insensitive considering the imminent unwanted war, it would surprise people that in our country the majority of soldiers bring cellphones to battle and after every encounter with insurgents bring out their cellphones and text their loved ones to assure them that they're okay.

I think Sadam has had enough time to disarm...12 years...and it is time he was sorted. I would of prefered a resolution #2 but I agree with what Blair etc is doing. I think he is having a very hard time and think he is good to stick with it!!!

Well... a bit of trivia... the Swedish army is equipped with Ericsson R250Pro units. The R250Pro actually passed through a military stress test, and the only one it failed was that it got wrecked after being run over by a Swedish tank.
On a serious note, Philippine soldiers carry mobile phones for 3 reasons:
1) Philippine army cannot afford to supply soldiers with proper communication systems
2) Battle sites are within cell coverage
3) You can call your troops and your wife/girlfriend using the same unit (I'm not kidding with this one)
but is this thread for real?!??!? If I had to bring a mobile phone into war, it would definitely be an Ericsson (not SE) since they do make military equipment...so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a military grade comm system. (Aside from the R250Pro)

the R250 and R310 should do fine. when they get the special update of the R250 you can see a map on it, use it as a 2way radio and see where you team is. a phone whit GPS would be fine 2. the Z1000 of sendo but that phone is history.

it would be kind of funny if the iraqui soldiers weren't ill equiped, i guess... if they were in equal conditions in the desert, i would ask the thread maker which phone does he think would be better for the iraqui soldiers to shove up US marines's asses...
since it's a coward war, no such question is in order, and maybe the marines could really use celular phones in their desert vacation...
