Guys,
I am planning to get free phone fro sun for 2 years subciption. Want to know the networks performance. Is the signal ok here in manila? What about call drop?
Thanks

marimamo,
Depende sa location mo. Better ask your office mates and 'kapit-bahay'. There are places that have a good signal but people are still having a hard time placing calls.
Posted by Jowi
i noticed that even if the CSR is on the other line & not a regular call, the conversation will be automatically cut off after 15 mins. lintek, im talkin to the CSR about my sun problem then it just hanged after 15mins. 11 total mins on hold & 4 mins of actual conversation.

"sir, i will just ask my supervisor regarding your querry." or
"sir, double check ko lang sa supervisor ko"
naranasan nyo na bang tumawag sa sun na pag kausap nyo na ang CSR eh masasagot agad ang tanong mo na hindi ka na pag iintayin para lang itanong sa supervisor?
Posted by anilrem

@anilem-welcome to esato

Posted by anilrem
Posted by dlreyes
I really think they do it on purpose as they really cannot solve their problems since they are usually network based... doing so would admit their liability.
One solution is just to ask a lot of questions to the complainant and answer with prepared statements which are very general in nature. If one is insistent then they will let you wait as they would ask their supervisor who incidentally would answer you with the same prepared statements their CSRs told you.
By the time you think the supervisor got your question right, the line would be cut and they would not bother to call you. Line gets cut automatically in 15 mins.

i'm on my 3rd month using my postpaid sa sun na.. naka prepaid ako since 2003 pero just december lang talaga ako nag decide to use sun frequently na.. okay naman so far! no problems with the call quality.. enjoy nga ako kasi nakaka conference call ako.. sabay sabay kami nang mga friends ko nag uusap.. like 5 ata kami noon eh.. the signal is okay, better than it was before..
sabi nang friend ko who works for globe, di raw masyado nakaka penetrate ang signal nang sun sa mga bahay (unlike globe and smart) kasi yung frequency na ginagamit nila is 1800Mhz, which she said has a short scope lang.. parang Cingular na 1900Mhz.. voice quality is really good nga kasi mataas ang frequency kaso lang mahina ang signal, hindi sya nakaka penetrate sa mga walls.. that's why nag try ako kagabi na mag suggest via email sa sun kung pwede nila dagdagan yung frequency nila nang 900Mhz..
Posted by dlreyes
Even if they wanted to, Sun cannot just add 900Mhz as that spectrum has been fully subscribed a long time ago already.
The only choice they have is to buy Extelcom which has a license to operate within that spectrum and remains the only selling point of that company.
Other Philippine telcos operating on 900mhz are Piltel, Globe, Smart (which bought PILTEL) and Islacom (which was bought by Globe).
Posted by kabukijep
ano na nga bang balita sa extelcom?!? how come no one's buying them (like piltel, etc)
Posted by dlreyes
Express Telecommunication Co., Inc. is a joint venture of Marifil Holdings owned by Bayan Telecommunications Holdings Corp, (BayanTel) the telecommunications arm of Benpres Holdings Corp. (Benpres), Scott Sproule Cellular and Digital Excel Development, and Mayon Holdings, Inc. whose shareholders also own GMA Network (rival of ABS CBN which is a Lopez company, same owners as Bayantel).
Extelcom and Bayantel however are engaged in a legal squable due to differences in objectives. Simply put, Bayantel wants out and would want to put up their own Nationwide CMTS (cellular mobile telephone sysytem).
It is hard to buy a company with an insignificant subscriber base with many internal problems which is trying to recover the billions of pesos worth of investments it had put.
Back to the Sun...

YM wap version still blocked by Sun but there's a workaround - Opera Mini. Matipid, pwede nang pagtiyagaan esp. when chatting w/ 1 or 2 persons at a time.
Posted by 619
chili.. what link are you using for ym? oa.yahoo.com? mm.yahoo.com?
Posted by chili
619.... Actually ph.mm.yahoo.com (I just entered through the Yahoo Phils main wap page and clicked the Messenger link.) Other paths (countries) are also working I think. The key is using Opera Mini instead of the built-in wap browser.

I know some people there. What do you need to know?

Good News for Sony Ericsson Suncellular Subscribers!
We all know how incompetent and unreliable Sun's Hotline is. Ever tried asking your SE phone's WAP and MMS configuration? They would normally just tell you that they'd call you back but they really won't give you a return call?
Problem solved!
Go to SE webpage...Support...Phone Set-up. Very Simple
Posted by vrl29
good info there steele! it's a good thing
included sun in their website; the last time i checked, only the two big networks are supported.
is there anyone here who have benefitted from sun's loyalty scheme? i've heard that they are giving away free phones when you've reached two years on contract to them.
Posted by superman17
vrl...as per sun csr for 1k up lng yung loyalty scheme...but for like me with plan 250...nega. cut then re-apply again as per csr...then cannot request again for the number coz of 8 months quarantine...etc. is this true?
Posted by steele
@vrl
Yeah, at least madali for SE users to configure their phone on Sun Network.
Posted by vrl29
@superman17: that's bad news... if that's how the loyalty scheme works, then it would be better if they'd rename the scheme to loyalty @ plan 1000 and up scheme!
@steele: thanks for the verification... because of that, i would no longer go to a sun shop to ask for the manual settings for my phone...

@superman
That's bad move IMHO. Majority of their subscriber base are between 250 to 600 plans. They should take care of the majority subscribers if not all.
@vrl
If you're a perpaid subs and you visited a Sun Shop, they would first advise you to call their hotline instead of attending your concern right away. Poor Customer Service!
Posted by anilrem
Medyo matagal tagal na rin ako nagbbasa ng updates dito sa esato.com regarding the service of Suncellular, kasi I was (past tense na
Kaya on the very exact date my contract with them expired (that was on March 17), I visited Sun San Pablo City at exactly 8:00am to have my line cut.
Posted by steele
@anilrem
Good for you kung napacut mo na...But it's always good to have back up sim like sun. I am a globe and sun user.
Posted by vrl29
how bad? i happened to subscibe to a post-paid service from them last december... and based on what i've read here, mukhang matagal-tagal pa akong magtitiis sa kanila. hirap ng walang signal sa mga lugar tulad ng tagaytay...
@steele: buti binigyan ako ng CSR sa sun shop ng hardcopy (as in, nag-print pa sila) ng settings ng MMS/GRPS/E-MAIL/INTERNET settings ng phone ko. at least me one good point sila dun...

Has anyone received an official copy of their Service Agreement with Sun?

uhmmm... i just checked the SUN MMS settings for a W550, but it was nowhere to be found. again, the two big networks only have support. is there something wrong with the SE PH website?
Posted by phat_tricks
tanong ko lang kung bakit ayaw magwork ng Opera Mini sa K750i ko? installed the WAP application from sony ericsson, pero inde pa rin makaconnect. btw sun user po ako. also tried the GPRS settings from previuos post pero la pa rin. TIA
Posted by dlreyes
Again, has anyone received their official copy of the Service Agreement with Sun?
I have been a subscriber ever since Sun started and despite my several letters requesting that I be given my copy, I still end up with none.
I would think that this would be a very good basis in case someone wants to terminate their subscription within the "contracted" period.
Posted by superman17
@ steele...tama ka dun....tsk tsk tsk! sun talaga.
@ dlreyes....nega, i also requested for that but until now nega...more than 2 years ng waiting.

What was their excuse for not providing you one?
Normally, this is signed on the day of application. How about posing as a new subscriber and ask them if you study their service agreement first?
Posted by dlreyes
Their excuse would always be that the copy is in the main office.
Correct me if I'm wrong but by law, principal parties in a contract should have proof that copies of the contract were duly received by them or if not, they would have the right to obligate the other party to provide them with one.
Failure to do so could be interpreted as a malicious intent to hide provisions in the agreement.

Yes. Definitely. When a client buys a Pre-need Plan from us, we provide with the original copy of the Contract Provision. They also get a photocopy of all papers (application form, confirmation slips, credit card charge slip) they have signed. A Customer Profile is being maintained. We even scan and store everything digitally just in case they lose their copy, we can readily provide them a copy in any of our branches.
Seems like they have to streamline some of their policies and procedures. by the way, Have you tried making a formal letter of request?
Posted by dlreyes
Formal letter?... several times since 2003...
