The R7A firmware upgrade has officially been released in service points in the Philippines this week and I was hoping that those who have had the upgrade can post what they think of it in this thread. I have tried search and the answers have been very vague. Please tell us what improvements, if any have you noticed in your phones. Thanks in advance

I recently upgraded my sw to r7a. I dont see any diff at all. But they say dat w/ dis sw,u will be able to use d edit pic nd zoom functn of d mca-25 cam. They say dat dis functns cant be used w/ lower sw versions.

Posted by doctabako
@d@ve these features in the MCA25 have already been enabled in the R6A firmware which i an currently using. Thanks for your input. Please post if you find any other differences:-)

No significant changes so far since i upgraded r7a from an r6a 2 days ago. :-(

Will there be any more upgrades after r7a? Is this the final one?

Posted by 619
if you dont have problems with your current sw, dont upgrade it anymore.

Posted by ctrlrm
yup. nothing much improvement.

Posted by Dj Boyi
I only upgraded the once so far(r2e>r6a)and there was additions with it ie.colours in mms and mms size limit lifted,so if there is no more big changes like java and polys! he! he!,JUST KIDDING! Then i'll keep me r6a :-)

this topic has been renamed and moved to the software section

improvements:

1. the candidate list bug seems to be gone
2. there seems to be some optimization on WAP overhead as i've got smaller bytes now on data transfer via GPRS

Jst upgraded 2day d only imprvment told by SESS dat its faster bt i dnt c d dif frm r6a

Posted by doctabako
@boyi -I agree with you. upgrade from r2b to r6a was really felt especially with improvements in t9 and MCA25 functionality. @arnoldc -finally an answer from one of our tech gurus, guess that's a good reason to upgrade. @*What about stability? Do your phones hang less now? Come to think of it the r6a was already pretty stable.

Im using R3a and currently having problems wid it. I bought dis fne in US (at&t). Im having prob. Evrytym i turn my fne off, all my data accts are lost except for at&t settings. My other prob is the pictures taken frm 7650 and was sent thru me cant be attachd and send thru mms. Wil this issues be resolvd wen i upgrade my fne to r7a?

Posted by doctabako
@xcellzerotype - had the same problems as you when i still had r2b. All those problems were solved when i upgraded to r6a. Don't know with r7a that's why i started this thread. I think I'll have my upgrade next week.

Posted by arnoldc
i noticed that deleting SMS from a big list is a bit faster now.

doc, my phone hung only once this year and that was with R6

ctrlrm's link for those on WAP states that improvements include(among other things) a peppier menu access, better bluetooth connectivity, GPRS monitor, longer standby and talk time.

Posted by doubleduh
Hmm my phone still doesn't have the service-menu fading and the gprs-monitor? Do I have to do a master reset or somethin else to get these features? I did reboot the phone (by pulling the battery out )...

But also one line in the sw-info is different, mine states prgCXC125323, his phone states prgCXC125375, could there be more R7A013's, or is that just the difference in language?

Posted by omar302
I think the different prg# is because of different language packages,
but i would also like to know about the cannel info and GPRS channel things.

Posted by arnoldc
floke, the candidate list bug manifests randomly when using T9. when it suggests a word (candidates) in a list menu, you can't move thru the list. you must have candidates on to see this.

Posted by Cytech
the CXC number tells you what language versions the firmware contains.

R7A013 does not include fading menus and GPRS info... put the phone in the freezer and you'll get fading menus, GPRS channel info and Channel info can be activated by a servicepoint, it exist in all versions, but it's disable by default...

Mine states...

R7A013prgCXC125383
R7A013prgCXC125326_TAE

I noticed the improvements such as:
1) faster menus/lists scrolling
2) somewhat faster texting
3) faster deleting of sms messages
4) improved battery level reporting

But the bad side is the font consistency bug is back. It was fixed in R6A or is it just me?

SMS alert tone sound level is still the same.

the font consistency is based on the language pack, ie. EURO1, EURO2, ASIA LATIN1, ASIA LATIN2, etc.

Mine is EURO2 (English, Espanol, Francais, Portugues) and has font consistency.

Posted by neilgoth
@arnold, if i'm using a t68m-i, i have the european languages in my language menu. If i upgrade to r7a, would the servicepoint be using the euro language pack also? I'm currently using r6a and still have inhibitions to upgrade to r7a.

Posted by adrktemplar
@arnoldc
So what should I opt to have on my phone so that there would be consistency in font sizes? I checked the languages and was surprised to see Tagalog in it. Nakakatuwa nga e. Hehhehehe!

Nevertheless, I still would like to have the font size consistent all throughout. Would probably get another upgrade.

Thanks for the info.

I just got a call from SE SP Engströms (Sickla) here in Sweden. My T68i was on service because of a loose bottom contact. I had R7A installed but they downgraded me to R6B. They said that SE didn't want them to use R7A.

I just upgraded my t68i software to R7A and I would just like to share my experience with SE at SM City North Edsa. I was actually prepared to shell out 500 bucks for the upgrade since my older firmware (R5C) was giving me headaches with random hangs and other irritating bugs. So I passed by the SE showroom and asked if they were equipped to upgrade the firmware. 'Lo and behold they told me that they did and it was free!!! They didn't ask for any Official Receipt or any proof!! So I had it upgraded...now I have noticed that it boots faster and menu response has slightly improved and so far I haven't experienced any hangs. So my suggestion to people from QC...instead of trekking to smartnet or SE in Makati maybe you should just drop by SE at SM North Edsa...it is located in the Cyberzone area at the Carpark section. Galing ng service ng SE!!...i'll be very happy to upgrade my t68i to the t610 when it comes knowing SE has this kind of customer support....

I noticed two minor improvements from R6A:
1) When sending e-mail with attachments, the window displaying progress information now shows up. In R6A this window was "hidden" under the "Server found" window, and it was impossible to see any information when sending the attached pictures. The e-mail was sent correctly though.
2) Updates to XHTML rendering. On my XHTML pages a few whitespaces was incorrectly inserted where they weren't supposed to. With R7A, the pages renders like a charm...

Not much, but still improvement from R6A:)

just had my upgrade this morning. aside fom the improvement in speed, one thing that's really noticeable is the stability of the bluetooth connection. I use my pda a lot when i browse and the paucity of bluetooth interruptions is refreshing.

Posted by abe214
I did the upgrade this afternoon too for free at SE SM North EDSA. First impression, fast scrolling.

Posted by neilgoth
@abe, when you had the upgrade to r7a at sm north, did they do a master reset? Were all your saved stuff like pics, rings and themes deleted? Thanks!

Posted by Jowi
here's mine
Faster sms (typing of message)
Faster browsing of menus

Posted by doctabako
Don't know if i'm imagining this but do you guys experience better power management after the upgrade. I'm noticing lesser battery drain under intensive use and increased standby and talk time on a full charge compared to r6a.

Posted by doctabako
Experienced one flaw in the upgrade. It seems the candidate list bug is still there. Happened twice and both times it was after pressing pqrs keypad once and trying to choose from the list, it won't let you. Most of the time it works fine, as said it happened only twice. Please post if you experience other similar bugs.

Ive ugraded this morning frm r2e to r7a at sm city SEand its free ive notice it hangs in the middle while im posting ,is there any diference in colors regarding LCD version (r1A -R1B)?

Posted by doctabako
Do a master reset. if that doesn't do the trick, have it reflashed.

Posted by dethany_cilz
And also the fonts get small at contåcts and no more chinese character, Lcd version r1a and r1b is der any diference in color?

Posted by doctabako
think you had a bad upgrade, had mine done at smartnet and i don't experience those things. in answer to your question the lcd image appears more crisp.

Posted by moongirl
Is there a posibilty dat wen u upgrde 2 r7 dat ur contacts and oder phne memory wil be erased?

Posted by XsuwailX
@moogirl, in my opinion... Possible? yes! Proof? None so far!

Posted by moongirl
X-tnx!il try 2 upgrde it dis wik,coz da lst tym i ugrded da sw it ddnt mess my contct and oder fne stored memry.

Posted by doctabako
No, they don't do a master reset when you have an upgrade done, hence all your contacts, pictures and such are not touched. It is always good idea though to back-up your data before having an upgrade in case something goes wrong and they have to do a master reset

I got 2 mc's upgraded at sony-ericsson north edsa free of charge yesterday. The latest version is r7a013 which comes in two language packs, Chinese (the one with inconsistent font sizes) and Bahasa (the one without wuziqi).

I just wanted the users to know that its free of charge (even non-warranty units) and the employees were as polite as the people at smartnet and semicon sm manila.

Good day!

Petition and maybe we will have JAVA on the next release (was told to me by SE developers)!
I'm not joking! You could ask the SE developers by yourself!

http://www.petitiononline.com/8520/petition.html

Petition people, if you want JAVA! It's one of the last chances cause SE will stop to make big imporovements in the firmware of the T68i after the next release, cause they will focus their developement on the newer phones (was also told to me by SE developers).

JAVA - please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by paul21
yes...JAVA pls SE!

Posted by gadgetboytom
this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen

why would spend money developing software for a soon to be discontinued phone?

dont be silly wait for a t610

Posted by Hajaj
Cause it's not hard to port on it. Ask yourself why they also ported the support for the MCA-25 to this "outdated" phone in R6?

... you see: they are still developing ...

I don't know, what the SE managers think, but if they will do it we all should say thanks!
