A few quick questions (contemplating the P800...)

OK, I got someone to loan me a P800 for the weekend, so I've gotten to play with it quite a bit. A few quick questions:

1) Is there a site which details the differences between the various firmware revisions? I see references to the different versions, but haven't found a site that has a version history, showing what changed with each one. The one I'm borrowing has R1B, but I'm not sure how current that is, or what may be changed/fixed since.

2) Is there any way to get the virtual keypad 'opened' (or screen is locked) when the screen lock is on, other than OK, *, arrow? What I'd really like is to lock the screen, but allow unlocking by pressing (or double pressing) the jog, which doesn't seem like something I'd likely do by accident. It's hard for me to hit those three virtual buttons quickly. I want to lock the screen, drop in my pocket, but be able to unlock faster.

3) Can you change the default app that opens when the flip is opened? I might prefer that it always default to Calendar or Contacts rather than Applications.

4) In the Contacts app, street addresses have street, city, region, and postcode, all on separate lines (I'm using a UK version right now). I live in the US, and am used to street on one line, and city, region/state, and postcode on a single line. I'm always trying to cram as much on the screen (I use the smallest font) and would like those two extra lines of text back. Is this possible?

I think that's it.

Much thanks for any info you can provide.

Kevin

1) The latest is R1D...but I really don't know what the difference is..other than it being a bit more stable. There will be a MAJOR sw upgrade in April which will add more features (sorta like the T68m/T68i upgrade) So I'll just wait for that one.

2) No... there isn't... kinda dumb if you ask me. There should be a HARDWARE keylock (or better yet, a SCREEN lock) by pressing a combination of the hardware buttons...not by touching the screen.

3) No you can't. There is an app ($20) called Handy Day which shows a TODAY page w/ current calendar, tasks, messages and adds 6 more quick launch icons.

4) Well, you can type everything in the Street Address line and leave the rest blank. That's a work around. I don't know if the next upgrade will offer customizable fields.

Bummer.

I was hoping I'd get lucky on at least one of those.

well you just did. u can reduce keylock to a 2 step very intutive process. when in virtual pad keylock press the jog dial inwards, the screen asks you to press the * button to disable keylock. actually this way it doesnt even seem like a 2 step, just press and it a button. its very convenient, very safe and virtually perfect.

No, I'm looking to unlock the screen from the jogdial. I don't want to have to tap a small button on the screen, which is annoying to do with my fingers. To get the virtual keypad open, I still have to tap *, then the keypad flip open arrow.

If all I want to do is get to the address book (something I can easily accomplish one-handed, without removing the stylus) it's hard to do with fingers.

Oh well, maybe a add-on app will address, or the April OS update.

Hehe... Bueller, Bueller... I haven't seen that movie for ages!

-"Life passes by so quickly that if you don't stop every once in a while and look around you might actually miss it.
