Bought the p800 on Friday from Orange, the phone is not as big as expected and the features all excellent as expected. Well worth the wait u guys..........

The only issue with the phone is when it is connected to my pc using Win xp professional, it seems to hang sometimes, the pc locks up.

Can anybody relate to this problem or does somebody have a fix???

For the first time the connection per USB took little bit longer, but now it is immediately connected. No problem on mine.

This question is not directly related to this thread but I am having problems with the usb connection. My xp pro laptop is not recognizing the connection. I've gone and checked the pc connection on the phone and also on the com ports but nothing seems to work. I have installed the suite and it works with ir but not with the usb. Any ideas?

Check in your BIOS on your laptop and see if the USB port is "active".
Should work...

yep, had the same problem, upgraded my motherboard yesterday, problem solved, seems to me that slower (1200mhz and less) pc don't support xp/p800 combination

I have my P800 connected to PII 450 MHz and working well.

Yep.. it would be virtually impossible for the speed of the cpu to be a problem.

It could be a problem to have a strange chipset (wierd southbridge for usb) such as some sort of unknown via board...

It works fine on my BX440 and NForce2 mind If only I could get the bluetooth serial port working

Try downloading the newest PC Suite version from
as gadgetboytom already suggested

I have the same problem. I also downloaded the newest software from SE but everytime I want to make a sync I have to unplug and replug the USB cable from my p800. Otherwise it says that the usb port is already in use though there is no app running!! really strange!

maybe someone can help

LOL! A 386 could do it!(if equipped with a usb port)

there are many different ways of troubleshooting this, but I would start with making sure that another USB device works in the same PC.

Did you uninstall any other mobile phone software?

Have you got the correct USB drivers for your motherboard installed? (Not just the XP ones on newer systems)

Have you got any processes running in the background (such as scanner / printer software) which are holding the ports?

Have you got any irq conflicts in Device Manager?

Just some things for you to try.

I have Windows 2000 w/service pack 3....system crashes and/or freezes with PC Suite version 1.1.1 loaded. No problems..so far when software uninstalled. I have emailed Sony...hopefully can get resolution.

finaly after two weeks of testing , it works now... I had the wrong BIOS update from ECS (viachipset, mobo k7vza according to ecs website I had to stick with version1.* ,that didn't work and I thougt what the hell let's try version 3.*)

Glad you got it sorted... although its mildy concerning that you had "the wrong bios"...

Just a quick pointer - try not to quote so much text when there isn't any reason to do so... it just increases the time taken for those accessing this on a handheld device.
