SD810 delays?

Qualcomm says 'nope'.
[ This Message was edited by: on 2014-12-07 23:15 ]

of course Qualcomm will deny it, a delay would not be good for the bottom line and would probably hurt the stock. Just hoping a mid march to early april launch for Z4 is still feasible.

^^
I think that the worst thing that could happen is that manufacturers delay the release of s810 devices to april or may and aside of that it's just mobile news drama to get more page views.

Something is wrong with those slides, it shows the SD805 (APQ8084) in image 1, but in image 2 it clearly says it will be using the SD810 (MSM8994) on other thing , in image 3 the first slide showing the dual speakers, they don't look balanced as the bottom speaker isn't flush with edge of the device but the top one is however that could just be the angle of the image.

Qualcomm might facing problems, but they can deny problems if these problems will not stop them from releasing it in time... there's multiple scenarios that they can deny but still there's problems

1- Limited quantity : Having small quantity will not stop them from releasing it on-time this happens with low yield manufacturing as the design will have too much defect's cores... the working SoC wont be enough to cover the demand, we might have limited quantity even with phones, some manufacturers might release it in a region first and delay the release in other regions... Sony had this scenario before with Xperia arc where they delayed the release for MENA and Australia for about 6 months...

2- Over heating/high power usage : While this might seems hard to fix, they might actually release it, but manufacturers will not adopt it like what happened to Tegra chipsets as they were power hungry limiting the design wins...

3- lower clock than expected : While as mentioned before, clock speed doesn't equal performance, the core design might have higher IPC than other designs making a 2.0GHz works as fast as a 2.7GHz older design... we're seeing this with Apple design... we know that A57 cores ( used in S810 ) has higher IPC than A15, but we don't know how much yet, I mean if we compared a 2.7GHz A15 core, will a 2.0GHz A57 be enough or we need more like 2.5GHz so a lower clock might not be a problem, BUT, if it was very low that it will have lower performance than previous gen. then here's a problem... if we need a 2.5GHz A57 core to equal a 2.7GHz A15, but the design maxes out at 2.1GHz or 2.2GHz then it's a problem... manufacturers will move to the fastest, which in our case will be the 2.7GHz SoC ( the 805 which is not A15 )

4GB of RAM should be a must-have for SONY to be competitive in 2015. Specially featuring a SD810. Don't you agree?

I hope Huiyi is right, it would be a good flagship for 2015. Both Samsung and HTC rumors point towards snapdragon 810 and I would be very surprised if Sony was the only one with 805

Yup yup yup! Although I'd be happy with 3GB.

Posted by Detox
Everything seems realistic respectively expected, except the RAM, which could be anything between 2 and 4 GB, but I think Sony won't go over 3 for the Compact and 32 GB ROM should really be the standard. 4.7" is hopefully the limit for the Compact and to be honest, I would still rather see a 720p than a 1080p screen. And of course, please again without an increase in body size .

If Sony is asking for a premium price then the Z4C should have premium specs like 1080p screen and 4GB RAM since Meizu is rumored to release a "budget" 4,6" device with 1080p resolution, 64bit soc and 2GB of RAM for just 130USD http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]64-bit-chipset-for-130_id63631

Another news about sd810.
Qualcomn will block some feature in gpu. It's better than not working. Isn't it?
And their engineers are full working to fix cpu problem until feburary 2015.
Qualcomn's cs team will visit manufatures in december and january of 2015 to promote manufactures to use sd810.

Esato was founded in the year 2001 and was mainly targeted at Sony Ericsson mobile phone users. We started with a couple of services offering free ringtones, grayscale logos for the Ericsson T39 and R520 models. We have expanded the service to include free color backgrounds for over 50 mobile phone models. Other popular services are the discussion forum for anyone interested in topics about mobile phones and accessories. Even if the focus was targeted at Sony Ericsson owners, we now have separate forums for owners of other brands. The most popular sections are the News, Blog, discussion forum, Free themes, free color backgrounds and a service where users can upload images from a PC and download a converted image down to their mobile phone.

Sony seriously need to wake up when it comes to low and mid range devices. E and M lines are pretty weak with none competitive prices. motorola is the king of low and mid range. yesterday i ordered moto g 2nd gen. for my mom from amazon for a laughable price including shipping and taxes and original moto case all for about 205 euros (!). 5" bright 720p display, dual speakers, good front and back camera for price with flash, dual sim, etc. i wanted to choose xperia for my mom but neither E or M line are worth it.

I really don't think there will be any Z4 series at CES. They will announce them at MWC with SD810 because Sony does not have any other choice. They changed the release cycle. With an April release they're going to sell more Z3s. I wonder whether the 5.9" Z4 Ultra or 6.44" Z4 Ultra will be announced.

Z4, Z4 Tablet= MWC 2015
Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Tablet Compact =IFA 2015?

Posted by JohnnyNr.5
2 1/2 month till MWC and so many contradicting rumours... I am always open for a nice surprise

Since there are no real leaks everything is possible.

Posted by Velexas
The thing is: if SONY really stopped its 6 months cycle, then the Z4 compact will exist (and Z4 is the 2015 line, which means -> no Z5 at IFA: Z5 is the 2016 line).

Posted by JohnnyNr.5
Exactly. If there is now a 9 - 12 month cycle then releasing all z variants at (almost) the same time would the logical solution

@nodarsixar: Seems great! But I still find 4GB of RAM in 2015 to be obligatory.

What about the Z4c?

Galaxy S6=3GB RAM
HTC HIMA (M9)=3GB RAM

I think Z5 series (Z5,Z5 Compact and Z5 Tablet Compact) will come out in September, with 4GB RAM
Z4 and Z4 Tablet Will be released in March, Compact version will not be
Z1 Compact, Z3 Compact, Z5 Compact, Z7 Comact and..................

I think Sony will still not include the Optical Steadyshot at this moment for Z4. With the recent A7m2 camera, better if they develop a 5-axis Optical Steadyshot for mobile, but I can't think of any reason where does this feature will be used.

Phase-detection autofocus is a nice addition. Hope that it does fare well in today's focusing prowess of other flagships. But I am still welcoming the inclusion of faster capturing (ever than before), as well as manual photography (shutter/aperture/manual priority).

Global shutter is welcome. Though I still foresee this in the future of mobile imaging tech, not now.

On the front cam, Sony should also up its ante of having 1/3.0" 5-megapixel front cam with bright f/1.9 lens.

5 axis optical steadyshot for mobile? I am not sure how feasible this would be, since this would probably add more bulk to the sensor module and increase its size. I doubt there would be much space for that in the new Z4. I feel just the standard optical image stabilization would be a good start, at least for stills, since the current steady shot in the Z3 for video is pretty good.

I would prefer phase detection and better image processing algorithm be sorted first since these 2 would have better impact on image quality.

I agree with @ascariss regarding the image enhancement required at the moment, not to mention the complication and bulkiness of the 5 axis optical steadyshot...

That picture, if proved legit, mentioned 3GB (TBD) in RAM... what I think this means is that Sony ( and all other manufacturers ) are evaluating the need for 4GB compared to 3GB even in the near future ( till the next flagship they will have ) If the current usage will not benefit from 4GB compared to 3GB even if we would love to have it as a future proof spec. they will not add it as they want to spare something for their next flagship... specially that Android L now has better memory management so 4GB might not actually have that much change in the UE, but because this is TBD, they might have 4GB at the end if they saw something that will benefit them...

If the latest rumors are true about one main flag per year then sony announcements are most likely going to be:
mwc: z4, z4 tablet.
middle of the year event: z4 ultra or sony keeps ignoring the 6" display device market and the main flag takes the phablet roll since it will have 5.5" display. i hope they don't ignore it.
ifa: z4 compact, z4 tablet compact.

I'm a good predictor.

Z5 in 2015? I highly doubt it. Z4 compact and Z4 tablet compact during the summer - maybe, but if they stick to that 6 month nonsense again, I think they can safely close their mobile division. Screw them anyway, I'm getting S6 (or the WP Samsung if they release one) or the new Microsoft flagship whatever that might be.

2-axis optical image stabilization is what I can consider the best a smartphone can have without the extra thickness. Maybe next year, we'll see a Exmor Rs sensor with this feature.
