SONY XPERIA Rumors 2014

Hope it comes with the new 2/3 curved sensor, motionflow xr120 and the s-master hx. The s-master sounds really clean and bright on my nwz-f886

Posted by amirprog
If that is the case then i'm disappointed and hope sony will announce a 6" flag at mwc along with z4 and z4 tablet. also differentiating a variant in display resolution is more stupid then in storage especially when their new strategy is one main flag per year.

Posted by xperiazultra
If this is correct Sony should start shutting down the mobile division. No upgrade other than SoC, no phablet, no nothing. Great job. Seems they have been working really hard.

Z3 with SD810. Omg innovation at its best.
Z2 but slimmer. Omg innovation at its best.
Z but better camera. Omg innovation at its best.

Demand Great. 😂

I am an owner of the Z3 and I believe it is damn near perfect in size and design.

If Z4 only has an upgrade to a CPU which has hardware 4K encode/decoding, 20nm architecture, 64-bit and better efficiency, and is one of the first handsets on the market with that chip then I have no issue with that.

It will be a much greater than the Z3 over Z2 upgrade.

As for the phablet and Tablet, I cannot see them not being prepped for release. The phablet market is becoming the battleground, Apple confirmed this with the 6plus. Sony can see this which is why they've delayed the handset to be the first among the 810 releases.

Can you imagine the fallout if they had released it 2 months ago with the same 801 chip and then be stuck with the 801 whilst other manufacturers with more R&D budget release 810 phablets? This thread and the 2015 thread would be nothing but anger and disgust.

Sony would do well to now release handsets every time Qualcomm have a major new chip and build to the Qualcomm release roadmap, being the first to release with the newest chip every time will quickly get noticed. Everyone will know that buying the new Sony will always mean having the best hardware.

Be the first and everyone else is a loser.

Z4 is probably known specifications. CPU 8994, sensor 2070! 1080P.5.2 inch display is the international version! US version of the display is QHD! IP6 / 8!

I don't think so.
Not saying it would be disappointing, I just believe these Z4 Specs are not very likely.

It will be a QHD display in the Z4 and Tablet Z4 @ 5.5" and 10.1" respectively. Sony will also launch these both with the SD810.

Realy?

^Sorry to disappoint however as per the norm there are about 3 different prototypes that are apparenlty at the very early stages of development so who knows still 4 months or so till MWC so anything could change from mow till then.

I guess you're right.

I wanted Sony to start designing their own ARM chips, cause Qualcomm despite being the market leader, has been rather slow on the uptake compared to Apple.

Unfortunately, Sony lacks the financial muscle to design its own chips like it did with CELL BE, which is a huge shame.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Just been told by the same person who has got stuff right before that the Z4 will be no more that 76mm wide (the LG G3 is 74.6mm wide) if it is that will be very good imo considering the IP rating.

Posted by Gitaroo
need 6"+ phablet with 4k screen, wonder if they can render everything in 1080p and scale it to fit. Only 4K video playback will be play in native res.

Posted by amirprog
@XperiaJunkie
Your source's info sound more believable to me then huyi's.
1080p for international and qhd for variant sounds so... 2014. it would be really inappropriate for a 2015 flag in terms of spec race of a company that is trying to survive in a tough competition. "no more then 76mm wide" indicates a larger display since z3 with its 5.2" is only 72mm wide.

Z4 is almost like this,, Overall height to be shorter than the Z3 point

Posted by itsjustJOH
So, LG's gonna release the 5.0 update for the G3 starting this week. Perks of having just a few devices, or because they don't really care about updating their other non-flagship devices anyway. Knowing Samsung, they might release it by December. HTC, meh. So would Sony be able to release the update ASAP? If not, hopefully that "early 2015" statement doesn't mean anytime between the 1st of January and the 1st of January, 2016.

Posted by goldenface
If the Z4 received a decent bump in specs, same screen size in a slightly thinner and shorter frame then that would be commendable, for a start. I think shorter bezels would make it even more attractive.

Posted by JohnnyNr.5
I would be totally fine with the Z4 if it keeps the 1080p screen @5,2" but with smaller bezels. SD810 SOC along with 4GB RAM (let alone for marketing purpose), 32GB ROM, better camera (OIS!) and a slightly bigger battery.

Posted by nodarsixar
I like 5.2 inch screen

Yep, I see no reason why anyone shouldn't be fine with these specs.

BUT it would be a marketing suicide.
It would mean the same screen resolution as 4 previous Sony flagships, same camera resolution as 3 previous flagships and same screen size as 2 previous flagships.

The Z4 with a 5.2" 1080p screen may have the best battery life and performance, but for a normal smartphone buyer (99% of sales) it wouldn't stand a chance against devices with 5.5" 2K screens.

^^
Only apple has the luxury of ignoring some of the competition spec race. sony should not repeat their mistake like with z1 display. marketing don't always fully equal actual use and Some bump in spec has subtle changes so qhd is a good thing and should not effect battery life much as the latest phones with s805 like note 4 and s5 lte-a has long lasting battery life with qhd. plus, they don't have sony battery optimization+s810+android L. manufacturers shouldn't worry much about battery life by the look of things, they just need to keep optimizing it, increase capacity, implement new battery tech, etc.

apple doesn't ignore. apple is the one and only creator and everyone is just copying apple... according to some people....

Posted by Ebato
Apple is in the category of its own. Nobody competes with them, even samsung does not have the luxury, let alone sony with its 2% of android space. So why bother looking all the way up there?

Posted by amirprog
@supercoolman
I'm not a fan of these people either.
@Ebato
Because it's a good example. they aim to be "one of the top 3 mobile manufacturers".

Interesting that 45.5% of the poll think that FullHD is a too small resolution.

Its all relative to the display size... regardless of resolution, if you can get close to 300ppi on that particular size screen its more than enough.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
I think the people who voted for a higher than full HD either already have or are planning on getting a device with a QHD display. As for 4K in a smartphone/phablet is just ridiculous as cu015170 stated around 300ppi is more than adequate.

Posted by cu015170
Ya even 6 inches @1080p is over 350ppi

Now that Sony have cracked the battery life on the current Xperia range I wonder if they're a step closer to finally adding the S-Master digital amp to the Z4 range. The biggest problem previously was power consumption but considering the Z4 will use the very power efficient SD810 and couple that with Sony's latest battery performance then surely it must be possible to integrate that tech for next year's flagship. They've managed to integrate it into the flagship, Android powered Walkman ZX1so maybe just maybe we'll see it in the Xperia Z4 range.

you do see the huge hump at top and bottom for those walkman right?

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ the relatively slim Walkman A Series use the S-Master amp, albeit it isn't Android powered plus if it meant a thicker phone to allow for the amp then I'm all for it plus it would also allow for a larger battery.

Posted by >500
F880 series walkman has the S-Master amp. No hump there....

Posted by supercoolman
well. if you are satisfied with FX series and not ZX that brings full potential on XPERIA Z series phone, then S-Master could be just a waste

If Sony can include it's S-Master digital amp into their Xperias then they should go all out and do it. I mean it's not as if they'll be cannibalising their dedicated Walkman sales and it would really differentiate their smartphones.

Hi-Res + DNC + S+Master would be a powerful combo.

Z4 Range rumours or just speculation?

^ So my source was right about the screen size, resolution and CPU in the Z4 and Tablet Z4. I may have to find out something else and again beat these websites before they claim it to be "exclusive", remember you heard it here first.

^Yeah I remember you were the first one who spoke about Sony ditching their 6-month cycle.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
@itsjustJOH yep that's 2 things I've posted on the thread now that have a few days later been posted on a website and they take the credit 😂

Posted by JohnnyNr.5
More interesting then the rumored specs is the speculation that along with the Z4 the compact and also ultra could be launched at MWC. And that would be great! Same beasty hardware in 3 different sizes launching at the same time.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Possible info on early prototype sensor for Z4, Interesting to say the least?
http://www.cnbeta.com/articles/344859.htm

Posted by goldenface
^^

Hasn't the big tablet traditionally been announced at MWC too?

That would make four devices, although I somehow doubt they'd release a new Compact so soon.

Z4, Tablet Z4 and Z4 Ultra would be a good line up for MWC. Although, with the realignment of their strategy to focus on high end devices, there could be more added to the Z4 range.

^ just realised that it's only a 4.8MP sensor, very low but as it says it's only a prototype.
