this link was posted on the z3 thread. it's a comparison between the Z3 digital image stabilization and that of LG G3's (with OIS).

the Z3 surprisingly beats the one with OIS. also, notably, sony decided to make their videos warmer, contrasty, and more saturated this time (if the videos shown there are really from z3 and LG).

According to the white paper it doesn't have OIS.

I really hope the Z4 will come with the new Type C USB connector...

my pets on Z4 ( only my speculation )

5.2" QHD triluminos display
Snapdragon 810 64bit octacore SoC
4GB RAM
32GB Internal ( hopefully ), with 64GB option
Stereo speakers
20.7" Back camera, support for 4K video recording.
Type C USB connector ( hopefully )
other spec. from Z3 included like the new DAC and the new video stabilizer...

No offense intended, but i never thought a second hand iPhone could be considered an alternative choice/contender when lined against z1c...

It is refreshing to see a comment that is not geek orientated like in many tech forms, only judging by specs but surely there is no contest here (putting aside differences in os)

Well ... I'm not really a "phone geek" I guess. I don't really care about the latest benchmarks etc, as long as it's something recent it's going to be responsive and good enough for me, and for a while to come. I also don't want to spend the top-end (Apple) prices. My concern is more about keeping the quality and design reasonably high, and having a relatively small form factor. I have a Ray which now has a patchy lens cover, and it seems to be out of space depsite the fact I have relatively few apps (curse Android apps for insisting on install to internal memory !). It's also on 2.3.4, and feels a little slow even in casual browsing. So something newer with more space, and a slightly bigger screen would do fine.

Line up Ray / SX / iPhone 4 or 5 / Z1c and you get a gentle progression in size, and they're all nice units. I seem to be a few years behind the curve on favoured handset size, since most new models seem to be rather bigger than these

I don't use video much so any these improvements don't really do it for me. What is interesting to compare is the low light performance video of the z3 vs the G3, probably using the new lower iso 2000 for video. The difference is quite a shock.

Will have to look at the sample shots in the z3 thread to see how the camera performs.

About an insider that doesn't know anything about the next gen Z Ultra

Posted by itsjustJOH
The guy ain't very active on Twitter. But it seems he is credible by his past tweets, for Sony, Samsung, Nokia, HTC, etc. Just weird that he's not that active lately since 2012, just a few tweets but all (those that I've read) were true.

did those marketers really intensively marketed the cooking place enough to have the noun banned? I'm interested to see what those marketers blasted on a mobile phone forum lol

there are racing tracks and rocket launchers built into the camera? perhaps users have to buy a few iFerrari/iLamborghini/iMaserati/iMustang to make their camera as fast as much they paid for it

Completely OT: the cooking area post #8.

Apparently there was a major spam bot a year ago and this word censor helps stop it.

Maybe...

maybe...

burst speed
standby to shot
time between individual shots

Posted by DexterMoser
^Maybe, but I guess the difference will be hard to notice in comparison with other flagships, their cameras aren't really slow...

Haha.

But seriously, if it won't have at least 13MP on an at least 1/2.3" inch sensor with OIS, I won't consider the camera good at all.

Larger aperture lens is a 'fast' lens

Could be related to ISO also

What news do we have about NEW UI?? sony's UI has become boring what can we expect from Android L?

^I kinda remember reading something about the new UI coming with Sony's Android L update.

Posted by DexterMoser
^Yeah, me too.
Didn't somebody who knows something say that the UI will be completely new designed with Android L?

Posted by Felimenta97
Indeed it was said, and everything

Here, I have a screenshot:

The thing I want to know is how it will be changed? When is the expected release? And, I think they should update the original Z line (Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z) so others would have a good impression of them, and make their users happy. Those devices can run L without a problem.

Sony should update everyone regarding L too. HTC did it. At least tell which has devices will surely have it.

Posted by itsjustJOH
^I believe that was milku (you cut his name ), to give him credit.

Posted by Felimenta97
Oops. Sorry everyone, wasn't my intention to cut the page or the poster haha

It was around August 30th or something, so that should help

Off-topic, since we're gonna have to wait for rumors again anyway:

The evolution of Sony's Xperia series from the Windows-based X1 to the brand new Z3

By the number 1 hated mobile site of the Esato community during 2012, PhoneArena. The end is nigh.

BTW, I like Ray the most.

Woah..never really realised that Xperia is the oldest living lineage thanksf for the share btw

With their No.3 in Z lineup,SONY could have started off from where they left of with a new Windows Phone X3 .

Does anyone know how the new mulit-camera feature in the Z3 range work? It says connect up to three xperia devices for multi angel shooting.
Does it haveto be all z3 devices or will it be compatible with older xperias? I for one will probably get the Z3 tablet compact, if any of the z3 range. Would like to buy a phone as well but that would be a bit to expensive.
And upon buying the tablet it would be swell to connect my ZR and shoot som videos. I really see a use for that feature!

I feel this works the same way the playmemories app works for the alpha line and QX line but it doesn't seem to be using the playmemories app for this, so I feel this functionality is built into the regular camera app, meaning wifi is needed.

Posted by miromiromi
^after viewing the promos, i think there is a special sub-app for it right under the camera app. the rest of the new features are sub-apps under the camera app so i suppose the same goes with this new feature.
it may work with other xperias that carry same camera system as the xperia z3.

Posted by Xajel
So now we can do some Matrix effect with Xperia

kidding, but cool feature indeed.. hope we can use it with more than 3 devices

Yes, the new UI! !

How much difference in UI are we talking? completely new UI or slight changes?

Posted by >500
The main thing that needs to change in the UI are the icons Sony use. They're pretty horrible imo.

They could include some better wallpapers also....

Posted by Ricky D
I heard/read somewhere that Sony will remove pretty much all skinning and leave Android L's Material Design in place.

An idea I am all for. I really love the Material Design philosophies. It really is a very mature look and feel. I like it so much I'm adopting some of the ideas in my current design work.

Posted by Xajel
I hope Sony will add the ability to use icon packs and themes... and also the number of columns+rows in home screen along with the gapping between them... and if they can add bottom icons screens also it will be awesome...

the problem with these customisation that in most cases it will slow down the UI...

Thought I've seen some fast and customisable launchers before like my current launcher Holo Launcher.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I really hope that Sony does adopt a flatter design style inspired by Google's Material Design. The current Sony Android experience is full of gradients and shiny stuff which is so dated design-wise. Modern design is flat with vibrant colour so I'd love to see that in my next Xperia.

Posted by smclion102
I really hope Sony does bring some nice ICON'S n DESIGN and also include dozen's of wallpapers, I dont understand why they cant include a good set of wallpapers thats the least they can do.
Sick and tired of old UI.

I'm glad that Sony has not (so far) adopted this flat design that everybody calls modern and fresh. Sony's icons and UI are way more professional looking and user-friendly than Samsung's and LG's etc. 'Flat' and 'Minimalist' are excuses nowadays to cheap out on design & expense. I know this is just my opinion; everyone has theirs. I'm sorry but I loved the days of dual-faced handsets and quirky and creative designs that sparked interest and conversations among consumers. Now more or less all phones look the same

Posted by McKinley
I couldn't agree more FMW300

Posted by Ricky D
Material Design in Android L is simple and clean but certainly not flat.

Posted by josephnero
FMW300
100% agree with you.

Exactly !!!
I just love the current Sony icons and UI... Way better than any overblown "flat/minimilastic" ui.

Posted by bronxdude
i just want a flashy UI - something that doesn't look like android.

Posted by alexander87
flat = hipster stupid stuff

I love current sony UI design, that is, the skeuomorphic design philosophy.

I really don't like the icons. I really don't like the skeuomorphism, but I can deal with it. The fact that the icons look so incongruent and lack uniformity in terms of size and general shape, really passes me off.

Also, explain how the flat stuff is "hipster"? Please explain. Cause I don't see it. You can not like it, but it is not even remotely hipster.

Posted by zxcorr
I love the Android L look. I think it's great. Hopefully Sony will also incorporate that material design elements in their next UI update.
