I know I missed the event

I loved Z3, but I'm still waiting for Z4

The only sad fact for me is the 16GB internal ( thought I heard that the T-Mobile version will have 32GB )...

I really hope Z4 will come with minimum 32GB internal + 64GB optional...

Xajel

Don't make me afraid

you can choose between 16 or 32 GB for Z3 / Z3 Dual

personally I'm waiting for 32 GB Z3 Dual

Well, I don't know honestly...

Edit: I just saw the official product page ( UK ) and the whitepaper, both indicates 16GB internal ( 4 of it for the system, 12GB for user )

Someone that knows Russian, could help me translating those two photos:

http://hi-tech.mail.ru/photo/[....]ny_Mobile_IFA_2014.html?num=17

In this one, there is one button for taking a screenshot, and other for another thing, right on the side, what is it?

http://hi-tech.mail.ru/photo/[....]ny_Mobile_IFA_2014.html?num=27

On the second one, how does Super Stamina is different from the Stamina we currently have?

that's from my blog Also getting the new A series, but shame the european model tops out at 16GB and not 64 like in the US.

So essentially it's the same thing that LG used in G2 last year.

I sure hope it is not. I have been using the LG G2 as a work phone for the last 6 months and it is terrible. Every time I unlock the phone half of the folders on the home screen are gone and it takes several seconds for them to appear.

Sony only refers to "unique power-saving technologies". If it's software-related, then the Z3TC surely also makes use of it. But if it's hardware-related...

Nobody cares about Z3 anymore, so now we need moaaar Z4 rumors!!!

By the time most of the world will get their hands on Z3, there will be Z5 rumors already. Gosh I just love seeing Sony digging it's own grave with such rapid tempo.

It looks like the Snapdragon 810 has a model MSM8994.

Anyways, forget the Z4, I want news on the next Z Ultra or equivelant! Looks like Z3x will be it, assuming the rumours are true. Really hoping they don't skimp on any specs.

Any chance for 4 gig ram?

Posted by vivftp
Gonna guess the Z4 will be the first phone with the curved sensor, unless they are saving that for the mythical Z3x.

One thing I Have no doubt about, the Z4 will be a much larger overall jump than z2 to z3.

I hear you. I guess we are a rare breed.
For me, the way I see it is that the z3 compact tablet is the solution.
Ever since I got the z ultra, I got really scared about sitting on it and crushing it. So I never put it in my pocket through that fear.
It is a personal view, but there were for me, 2 gripes about the ultra. One was portability, but I knew what I was getting myself into. You see, up until the purchase of the ultra I always had a phone and a tablet on me. But the ultra made sense for me because I could retire my nexus 7...the 2 devices I always carried became one. It made sense.
The other gripe was battery life, so came along a portable battery pack. I had a cool bag, so it wasn't a problem to carry that around. So it was one step forward but half a step back kinda situation...

I too wish there was a ultra successor. But since then I have got myself a Z2 tablet and Z1 compact and tried that lifestyle for a few months now, up until today

What am I babbling on about...anyway, my point is this...
Z3 tab compact and SBH52 combo would be all the boxes ticked...One device again, much improved battery life, increased screen size yet very portable..

CPU

The Snapdragon 810 is based on ARM's big.LITTLE concept, which combines different CPU cores for an optimal combination of performance and power consumption. In this case, there are four fast Cortex-A57 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, which should offer about 30 percent higher performance per clock compared to the previous Cortex-A15 (e.g., Tegra K1) design. Furthermore, the SoC integrates four slower, but much more efficient Cortex-A53 cores, which will handle background tasks and simple applications.

All eight cores can be active at the same time, although most applications aren't parallelized to support 8 cores efficiently. Both Cortex-A53 and -A57 are based on the ARMv8 ISA and are therefore 64-bit capable.

Overall, the Snapdragon 810 should be one of the fastest ARM-based SoCs in the first half of 2015.

GPU

According to Qualcomm, the Adreno 430 should outperform the Adreno 420 (Snapdragon 805) by 30 percent. This would make the GPU about 80 percent faster than the Adreno 330 of the Snapdragon 800/801.

Based on these numbers, the Adreno 430 should end up slightly slower than the Nvidia Tegra K1 GPU, but still in the very high-end category. The GPU should also offer sufficient power for upcoming high-end devices with display resolutions exceeding FullHD.

This explains why MSM8994 is based on ARM big little concept

wonder if NVIDIA is gonna earn more from this lawsuit than selling its CPU just like M$'s current position on Windows Phones lol

huyi has dropped the bomb.
the spec is expected but it is still nice to know its in the process.
@nodarsixar
display size will most likely be 5.5" qhd as there are no 5.2" qhd ips used in the market and to make qhd more noticeable manufacturers (just for an example: find 7, g3, iphone 6 5.5", etc.) need 5.5" so your prediction is detached from reality.
i think that this will force sony to make the top and bottom bezel slimmer to somewhere along g3 is so this should not influence the phone size. personally, i wouldn't care much about bigger dimensions as i want 5.5-6" flag from sony, be it the main flag or a phablet because it would not reach z ultra gigantic size anyway.
about the phablet, sonyalpharumors said "early 2015" so we can bet it will be announced with z4 and z4 tablet at mwc just like z3c and z3tc were announced at ifa with z3, plus, sony needs a phablet flag to stay competitive imo that z ultra is not.
@king-james
it does not ruin anything. people that have old phone and want/need a new phone will buy z3/z3c so your point in not valid.

nVidia's main focus is game related. That's why Qualcomm or anyone else no longer will be able to keep pace with nVidia.

I hope they will increase the screen size for the Z4 to 5.5 to compete with the 5.5" Ip6 from Apple

The main point of the curved sensor is to reduce the thickness of the camera....so I doubt that the next Z4 would have 8 lens but rather a curved sensor + 1~2 lens with thickness below 7mm

Also, are there any chances they will use USB 3.1 for the Z4?

I just updated my phone to 4.4.2 with pc companion, and it says emergency calls only, and the phone is factory unlocked?? In the hidden menu also says:
Network 0
Network Subset 0
Service Provider 0
Corporate 0
Sim 0

EDIT, looks like sim card is damaged, but it is strange, as it worked perfect before update, and i did not took the sim card out of the phone :S

2K is the same as HD 1080 only 128 pixels wider making a 17:9 aspect ratio.

It does sound cooler though, and hopefully means Z4 will have smaller top/bottom bezels.

Pretty sure everyone is waiting for Sony's unique feature for Z3x/Z4!!!!
2K/64bit/4gb ram will pretty much be on every flagship so I am least bothered about those features.

So it seems that Sony mobile Poland will be selling the Z3 as a dual sim device. I was told this at the sony store from a friend who works there and it seems he was correct, so a bit surprise myself.

Also checking the mobile store and accessories, it seems the STM10 stereo microphone is compatible with the Z1.

Can someone explain the Sony range ? 16 phones, in no particular order I can discern, no comparison tool, little naming logic. The Z's are the only ones anyone knows about, and I suppose that it can be deduced/guessed that Z3 is the newest, then Z2, Z1, Z. OK ... what on earth's going on below that ? I suppose, by analogy with the Z-series, an E3 is a newer E1, which is a newer E ? (no E2 though). Judging by price, the E-line is the entry level ? It all gets even more hazy from there on. Is the M-series the middle-series ? What are the T3, L and SP ? Older models or not ? Is there nothing good with a 4" or so screen ? (if the Z3 Compact had a 4.3" again, but in a smaller body, at least that would have been somewhat closer than the 4.6" it got bumped to).

with IP everything XPERIA, wouldn't it be great if you can have a touch screen surface handy while cooking in ****? perhaps looking at those shows teaching you how to cook a few dishes or e-recipe to size to cuts

@armdeep

Prefixes:
E - Entry level series
C - "China" or "Child" series (?) either way, low-end regional handsets
J - Junior series
M - Mid-range series
T - Trendy series
Z - Flagship series

Numbers:
No number - first half 2013
1 - second half 2013
2 - first half 2014
3 - second half 2014

Suffixes:
No suffix - Lead handset of that series
Ultra - 'Phablet'
Tablet - Tablet >10"
Compact - Mini version
Aqua - Waterproof
Dual - Dual SIM

Suffixes can be stacked e.g. "T2 Ultra Dual" is a dual sim phablet from the T series, "Z3 Tablet Compact" is a mini tablet from the Z series.

SP is a relic from the old naming scheme (which nobody understood), it was a cross over between Xperia S and Xperia P, we may still either series return in the future.
L is also from the old naming scheme, but we may still see it return in the future.

Only the flagship has a handset in every number i.e. Z, Z1, Z2, Z3

Not all series have all suffix variations nor do all series have a handset for each numbered time period

Some series variants may be iterated even less often than once a year. e.g. we haven't seen a Z series Ultra handset since Z Ultra and so have skipped Z1, Z2 and so far Z3 too (but it's not too late for the '3' time period).

The only exceptions to the numbering I've noticed is when a handset is significantly delayed. Z Ultra comes to mind. It was released second half of 2013 but wasn't called Z1 Ultra. This may also be because Z1 wasn't official yet and Sony didn't want to be ahead of themselves.

It is also worth noting that beginning of the current naming scheme overlapped a lot with things still coming out of the old SE development and before Sony upper management sorted things out from the buyout. It left things like SP and SL in the pipeline with confusing names, but Sony had to release those handsets because a) the development was already almost finished and b) they couldn't afford to not have anything new in the market.

I believe the numbering scheme increasing every 6 months is so they can easily seperate what the base chipset is for each series, which means they can clearly communicate software updates to users and who can expect an update. Their software blog is 80-90% people asking 'will my handset get this update?'. Now they can clearly say Z2 series will get it first, then T2 series, M2 won't get it etc.

Not sure what the **** is, or whether there are other connotations that I am meant to be aware of but if I was to understand your point correctly , that is one of the angles sony had used to market the original Z tablet. Being waterproof, people were encouraged to take their tablets to bathrooms and ****.

I think the asterisk were done by the forum. somehow k i t c h e n is censored. I don't know what's so bad about the noun.

I thought there was something wrong with my z2 tablet, then I suspected the internet connection. then I considered a bug in the forum.

No matter how many times I edited my own post, it will still be ****.

Then I thought it was one of those acronyms that was rude, therefore censored, so I went and googled but couldn't find any.

So I was about to go and have my eyesight tested this afternoon. Now I can cancel the appointment in peace.

Thanks for the detailed reply Ricky. As we have no C or J here, and if I completely pretend the T never happened, I can reduce the range to a sane high (Z3, Z3 Compact), medium (M2, M2 Aqua), and low (E3) line-up. Of course it's not going to be headed that way, Sony will probably release a load of oddly-named models next. Now where's my M3 Mini ?

I suppose I should keep an eye on Z1 Compact prices (or maybe just bail and go iOS and get a second-hand iPhone 5 when everyone upgrades to the 6).

No offense intended, but i never thought a second hand iPhone could be considered an alternative choice/contender when lined against z1c...

It is refreshing to see a comment that is not geek orientated like in many tech forms, only judging by specs but surely there is no contest here (putting aside differences in os)
