Would there be an audio chip for this? Anything else that's new?

Anyway, what DAC do Xperias use?

unfortunately, sony prices only become competitively low months after the initial product availability, when they realize they are unable to sell them with the initial prices they set (in the non-asian market).

I think you misinterpret this pricing strategy.

They drop prices after a few months, yes, but after they have milked fanboys and early adopters. They know that the initial price is inflated but they know I will buy it anyway.

I think changing this strategy is a risk. Their devices don't conjure enough media attention (yet) to stand their own at competitive release prices. It also devalues the brand perception a little.

What they should do is official release 1 month later at a competitive price, but in that one month period offer a limited number of pre-release handsets for a 20% surcharge. Pre-release handsets come with bragging rights for an 'unreleased' phone and complementary bugs in the FW that are fixed with 'release firmware' on the official release date. eg. 'limited number' pre-release the phone for £600 through September with 'beta firmware', then official release in October with all the bugs fixed at £500.

It's basically what they do but the naming of the the first month of short stock and buggy FW has no jazz in the name.

I heard there DAC! !

Isn't the DAC part of the SoC these days ?

Posted by maiaramdan
Honestly the strategy SONY need is only to re release the year old flagship again with the new but in a different way
Forexample

If SONY will continue its strategy of 1 compact odd number flagship per year and two normal size flagships then the strategy will be as follows
Z(x+1) compact re release with the Z(x+3) compact bit with half it's price
and after six months
Z(x+2) re release with Z(x+4) but with half it's price

Sony made?

Oh yeah, like I said, a teaser everyday!

Sony hints at some very waterproof devices at IFA 2014

And another!

^ I wonder why some are in boxes but 2 of the items are under covers? it may mean nothing but looks a bit strange.

My guess is

Z3
Z3C
Z3TC
E3
QX30
SW3
SBT
SBH60 BTHS

Is what will be unveiled come the 3rd.

So, in the foreground, we have a watch, a lens/camera, a tablet, a phone and something underwraps?

In the background there is two other phones and another cover, but I'm not sure they mean too much or they'd be in the foreground.

If the scale is at all indicative (between devices - there isn't a tablet the size of a skyscraper) then the underwraps device is small.. very small.

If it's just a bluetooth headset then why is it so secretive to put under a cover? They seem to release a new headset every month.

Sony are certainly trying to get attention for this announcement, I hope they don't fall on their face in front of a lot of people with a disappointing set of products.

If Z3 has something cool about it or if there is an oversized Ultra version, I may just have found my Christmas present to myself...

Posted by xperiazultra
Well if they have the Ultra line (which i dont give a chance) Imay have found some reason to spend money.

Posted by ascariss
I am sure the individual boxes represent something but it would be hard to say what is exactly in each one.

The flat one on the left could be the z3 tab compact, the tube thingy in the foreground could be the new ILCE-QX1 lens/sensor camera thingy for smartphones. As for the rest, anyone's guess but this is what should debut..

Z3
Z3c
Z3 tab compact
ILCE-QX camera
Smartwatch 3 and this new smartband talk
3 walkmans
new bluetooth/NC headphones
new wireless speakers supposedly
supposed new low E3, guess it is just a re-design of the current E1?

I am sure there will be more devices, but so personally looking forwards to the new walkmans and tablet.

I have a different view on this.
Why milk on fanboys?
The goal should be to attract new buyers.
You have to realize that fanboys will eventually lose their enthusiasm once they realize they're paying more when they can get other comparable devices for less.
When your sales are declining and you get competition from cheap Chinese products, that strategy does not make sense.

I never said their strategy made sense!

But as a fanboy, I know I should have lost interest and bought a Galaxy Note and an iPad mini, but I simply cannot. Any other other true fanboy in here would tell you the same thing.

It's me they're milking and they're pretty good at it.

@RickyD & xperia junkie

the second teaser posted above was from SONY Middle Easy..not Sony Mobile,so i guess that pic includes products other than phones.

I hope Z3 does have improvements in the Processor,Display ,Audio quality & Loudness,Camera and 1 or 2 new added features like Wireless charging etc.Else it will be slightly embarrassing. Its a decent alternative strategy to have a refreshed flagship every 6 months considering how competitive the market is with new tech & features..but that means the refresh also has to bring these updated tech & features...if not :-\

@Ranjith I do think the Z3 will come with all of those improvements as that is just the natural progression of a smartphone. In terms of a better processor we know the Z3 is using the ac version of the SD801 which for myself would be absolutely fine since the 805 may have 1 or 2 issues with battery efficiency. My Z1 which is almost a year old now is still working like a treat with the SD800 so definitely no worries about performance just those that care about stupid benchmarks. The addition of wireless charging would be more than welcome as I think only Nokia have this as standard in a flagship without the need of a separate case. Sony really have tightened up on leaks this year so we don't have any idea what the phones USP will be but there's only 48 hours till we find out and I for one can't wait.

Sony mobile US keeps posting
((Blink and you might miss it))

i think it maybe something about a fast cam or really fast focusing on z3?

Posted by Ricky D
Or some sort of blink recognition technology like smile-shutter for blinks or scalado's time rollback on face's to get the perfect photo.

Posted by ascariss
I think it's just the same teaser/preview from sonyuk with the same video this is what is appearing on my twitter feed at least. Unless sony added phase detection to the new sensor?

Yea 805 isn't a necessity. The Z2 is running fabulous..i never thought android was so slick but i do hope they bring the overclocked 801 to the Z3 like in the S5,just for the sake of making this launch look good at least. The Camera is one department im really hoping see's an improvement.Anyway lets keep our fingers crossed

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about the Z3 tablet, and any accessories that they will offer. Can't wait.

Has anyone not seen this

I think Ricky D has the most probable option.let's hope we all get surprised on sept3

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Bit of an update on the new QX smartlens from www.sonyalpharumors.com

this is copied direct from their website.

On September 3 we will get the next Sony product announcement. And we will see the new QX30 (30x zoom) module and the ILCE-QX1 APS-C E-mount module. I have been told the price of the ILCE-QX1 will be 300 Euro and 450 Euro with 16-50mm lens. The size is about the same of the current QX100

It's rated @ SR5 which is all but confirmed.

Sony Xperia Z3 compact

Those Compacts look extremely good. And they're the same color as the nail polish in the teaser video.

Posted by king-james
Finally RED!!!

Posted by ascariss
omg red!!!

btw guys, Sony has a shit load of new bluetooth and wired headphones coming at IFA.

Posted by goldenface
Great! Nice bold colours. Looking forward to seeing the new headphones too. Not long now.

Posted by Felimenta97
Personally, I find it better than the Z1c, but way worse than the Z2, design wise.

Posted by MNX1024
DAT GREEN!

If the Z3 has that, instead of waiting for the Z4 or whatever, I might not be able to stop myself from getting it.

Posted by nikos_se
Xperia Z3 compact looks amazing!!!Also,glad that it has a pure white version,and not a black front/white back.The screen looks like it's 720p,which is a bummer,cause if it had a 1080p screen,it would be a killer device.

Posted by pattiobear
I preferred the speaker design and the shape of the sides on the Z2 but oh well. I hope they have a purple Z3!

^
Now the Copper mystery has been solved! Its the colour option of the Xperia Z3. They also integrated some walkman technology like DSEE HX. Perhaps they put S-Master MX or S-Master HX into Z3

So Z3 is a disappointment?
Compact looks great!I hope it has stereo speakers too.

Posted by kurtdean
^ Disappointment?
I wouldn't call it a 'Disappointment' just yet. Did u see the battery stamina on this thing? It's incredible! Perhaps if Stamina Mode was on it could last for a week!

Posted by Zuckabaecka
I like it - only the color-options could be better.
Also I would like to see some new materials but all in all the Z3 is very nice.

Posted by ascariss
Guess the IP certification didn't change, perhaps that 2m teaser is for something else. I am wondering how well the camera software has improved or changed, the inclusion on ISO 12800 is a surprise and should lead to better night shots if the noise can be controlled. The device is tempting me haha, not sure if the compact or full z3.

Posted by Ricky D
Can I lay claim to suggesting the new colour is copper from a few pages back?

I thank you very much.

Posted by xenia
Looks like stock android on z3c at previous photos.

Yes you may

The spec of Z3 you've seen on the picture is not the final one. The device is an early-stage product.

Posted by Tizzo
^Very interesting!

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^Has anyone noticed that the max screen brightness is 600cd?? Amazing right? What Z3 has to offer is being a well-rounded device. We cant find any phone in the market that offers high quality audio, great camera and water-proofing. Top models by Samsung, HTC and LG pretty much are great too, even offer more advanced features that Sony. However, Sony manage to pack in the right combination of features that majority of people really use in their 2H flagship. So I think Z3 not all that bad.

Anyway, I hope the copper screen tech is really applied in Z3 and the rest of the gang. And I think it is still possible to increase depth in which you can submerge the phone into the water even though the rating is only ip55-ip58.

Posted by milukugiuniu
This time the release of Z3 will be earlier then that of IP6.

Posted by Xajel
All these great new features makes me happier with what might Z4 looks like or have

When Z2 first came out, I liked the NC feature. but the need of specific headphones will mean we will not be able to use it with USB DAC, we will need a dedicated NC-headphones again...

but now Sony implemented a built-in DAC in the phone which is great... I just hope it's good enough to be best in smartphones...

I know some external DAC are very hard to implement in a smartphones, but I don't mean anything overkill, I just want some thing competitive in between smartphones.. and something to be proud of it.

That red Compact is so sexy that it took my mind off the Kate Upton leaked photos I just saw!

I hope you're saying that because the final product would have an IP68 rating.

Interesting, wonder what else will be different.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
So the Z3C has a 2600mAh battery which is superb, they've managed to include a larger screen and battery without increasing the footprint of the phone, yes it's thicker than its rivals (Alpha and iPhone 6) but what's a few mm's when you get a much larger battery. Bravo Sony, Bravo

Posted by ascariss
Just saw photos of the QX30 and QX1, they should leak soon alpharumours

All the action shots include the Z3 in them, but mostly of the rear of the device. If you guys thought the QX100 looked ridiculous on the Z1/Z2, well get ready for a whole other level with the QX1.

QX1 uses exmor APC-S sensor, no idea on MP count, doesn't have this info on the pics, built in flash.

QX30 has a new mount to the body which allows it to swing rotate/bend, you will see it in the photos soon.

Btw bottom of Z1 has a lanyard hole, same design as in Z3c but it is in the middle.

Posted by huiyi
Under the Z3 correction parameters! Z3 thickness is 7.35MM! IP68! Z3C RAM 3G!
