Sony will adopt metal alloy chassis for their 2015 highend smartphone.
Phones will be produced by Foxconn electronics and the chassis will made by Foxconn technology.
For now, Sony is using plastic chasis with metal edges which produced by Catcher technology.

that very exciting news, I hope the Z3X come with metal-alloy chassis then.

^That would be really cool. So what XR rating would that be? I thought we should bring that back again.

Cool, I remember Sony had a patent like that a while back. Hope it makes an appearance soon

i prefer the implementation of that reported patent about a camera behind the display

Now that would be the most interesting implementation of fingerprint scanner. If done right it would mean no more problems with the way you put your finger on the scanner or where you put it.
Hopefully it's not some wishful thinking and it might really land on Z3

There seems to have been a lot of patents such as this over the years, how many have made it onto devices? Does anyone remember 'transferjet' technology, developed by Sony?
It seems to be taking a long time to come to market.

Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact maybe?
Width x height x length:
124mm x 6.4mm x ?

My exact same thoughts it is the z3 tablet compact, it would be too thin for the z3 or z3c, dimensions fit an 8 inch tablet, I posted a few pages back some dimensions of competitors, and this feels similar to tab 4 8in from sammie.
210 x 124 x 8 mm, except the Sony will be thinner, same width and maybe same height, my guess 200-210mm from estimates based on the photo from the video.

x=200mm
Check yellow band.

Yes, I can't see it being anything other than the Z3 Tablet Compact. Not unless there are some other devices in the wings.
6.4mm is the same thinness of the Z2 Tablet so it's pretty thin. I wonder if the Z2 Tablet successor will be < 6mm.

A pinch of salt for further warming-up
1 New type polymer battery wth longer charing cycles and better consistency, thinner than before;
2 Camera: improved white-balance and focusing. Voice photo can be taken. Rear and back camera can be opened simultaneously. Co-photographing supports 3 Xperia devices and 1 camara working at the same time.
3 Audio: supports Hi-res;
4 Screen: brightness reaches 600 lumen;
5 UI will be changed dramatically on Android L version. So L will hit Xperia a bit later.
Just a couple of days left. Look forward to the event!

Hey guys so I haven't been able to check this thread for a long time. Any news on Xperia Z4? Like was it going to be a major change or something minor like Z3? Mainly I'm waiting for something better than the 801 since I'm already on it, be it MediaTek or 810.
Thanks

Interesting, perhaps this new tech is why the battery is smaller and thinner? The focusing issue, well there is some on my z1, so any improvements are nice, white balance, don't have an issue myself. I guess the 2 camera thing is like what available on other brands. Curious about this co-photographing, but probably just another software gimmick.
Hi res support is a nice touch, hopefully NC is still on board.
Screen brightness is nice, hopefully the colours and contrast are also good.
Shame about the L version being changed dramatically, not a good sign if the changes are a lot more customization, sony's current OS is good enough and doesn't need any mods.

Great video there. However there is still one thing that is puzzling me over the Z3Cis the screen ressolution in the video he says it's 1080p other say it's 720p, does anyone in the know have any idea which it is ?
[ This Message was edited by: XperiaJunkie on 2014-08-30 10:12 ]
Posted by king-james
If Sony put a 1080p display it's it sharpest so far with 479ppi.. but IMO unnecessary. If 720p then 319ppi, which is still good enough!
For comparison the Z1C and Z Ultra have 342ppi, both crispy sharph.
Posted by XperiaJunkie
^1080p will look great on the spec sheet but 720p would be great especially if they squeeze a 2800mAh battery in there that would be almost 1000mAh more than the Galaxy Alpha and the iPhone 6 suggesting the battery life of the Z3C would be awesome.
Posted by sambouka
If sony are teasing the height maybe they did some prowess reducing it thus reducing the bezels
Galaxy tab 8 is124mm x 8mm x 210mm
So maybe z3 tablet compact will be124mm x 6.4mm x 200mm (like the ipad mini) or 199mm
Posted by king-james
^
Samsungs high-end 8" tablet is the Tab S 8.4", here the dimensions: 213 x 125.6 x 6.6 mm
It's the real competitor next to the 8" Z3TC when you compare them: 200 x 124 x 6.4 mm.
@XperiaJunkie
Yeah would be better, but honestly I won't believe that it gets a so big battery. I think battery is same big or max 2500mAh... It's more realistic than 2800. You must imagine the body stay same size even thinner. Plus bigger screen. Where is the space for 2800mAh? From 2300 to 2800, nope, impossible...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and put two and two together.
I think the battery will be much smaller than competitors on the market. huiyi has alluded to this, I trust him. There is also clues towards advanced battery tech. And, finally, there is a clue in the teaser video something about 'keeps going' or something like that.
I expect a battery life that performs similarly to others on the market but battery capacity (and size) to be much smaller.

Well do you guys think that there will be a Z3 Ultra or Z4 ultra until MWC 2015?

^No.

Unfortunately...

What about Z3X? Seems fake but... Well I believe there will be a phablet of some sort.

Although not directly related to Sony more so android, seems the next android release could be lollilop and not lemon whatever pie.
http://www.gsmarena.com/lenov[....]lrunning_vibe_x2-news-9504.php
Unless the lollipop means jack.
The most exciting aspect will be the new APIs, especially the camera oriented ones.
http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/i[....]g-new-Camera2-in-Android-L.jpg
Really hoping Sony decides to include the new manual controls in the new L release of of the Z3, also curious how the update on the z1/z2 will work for L and if such manual control will come over.

@xperiazultra
Doesn't really matter if z3x is real or not. sony must ready a new phablet for MWC to stay competitive.
@detox
and who remember this?

In the tear down of the z3, was there anything on the battery that would indicate wireless charging? Doesn't the battery need some kind of extra coil to charge?
Unless the Chinese version has wireless charging not as a feature.
Posted by XperiaJunkie
Isn't the SW3 supposedly going to support wireless charging as well, it would make perfect sense giving the Z3 range this feature it also means that you will have upto 3 different ways ways to charge you Xperia Smartphone, again a link to the number “3“ that was made so obvious in Sony's teaser trailer.

There was no wireless charging coil.
Also the coil wouldn't be directly attached to the battery, more likely on the back cover to maximise charging range.
I don't know if it's a translation difference or if it is intended like this, but in Chinese Sony call the dock charging 'wireless charging'. It's been that way since the original Z.

it is wireless in a way. the only difference will be you have to align the phone in a very specific orientation (such that the contacts meets) to charge the phone with a docking station. you have a little more freedom on the orientation with the current commercialized wireless technologies, but the phone still have to be close to a platform similar to the docking station

Xperia Z3
As rumors have suggested, Sony will be launching the Xperia Z3 at its press event on Sept. 4, 2014. The device is said to feature very similar specifications when compared to its predecessor. Internally the Z3 will feature a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 and 3GB of RAM. It’s also packing a 5.2-inch triluminos display based on new technology that’s brighter and has a better contrast ratio.
We’ve also heard that the Z3 will feature new software caching enhancements that will keep the device powered for up to 2 days on a single charge. As you would expect from this smartphone line, the Z3 will be IP68 certified. The most interesting fact here is that the Xperia Z3 will initially launch as a T-Mobile exclusive.
Xperia Z3 Compact
Sony will also be announcing the Z3 Compact. This device will feature the same internal specifications (processor and RAM) as the Z3, but will have a 4.7-inch 720 x 1,280 display. It will also feature the same battery enhancements and IP68 certification as the Z3.
Xperia E3
If you’re looking for a smartphone on a budget, Sony’s soon-to-be-announced Xperia E3 may the answer. The E3 will not feature any waterproof certification, but is said to have a 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5 to 2GB of RAM. It also has a 4.8-inch 720 x 1,280 display. The Xperia E3 will be Sony’s low-cost smartphone option and could retail between $200 and $300.
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
Finally, Sony will announce the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. This is claimed to be the thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet in the world at just 6.3mm thin. The Z3 Tablet Compact will also feature the same internal specifications (processor and RAM) as the Z3 smartphone, but have an 8-inch 1,080 x 1,920 display

Interesting, had a feeling Sony would combine the smartband to the watch. What surprised me is the android wear OS, I thought Sony would have stuck to their OS, perhaps the android wear OS has been improved or will substantially improve with android L. I would have preferred a circular design from Sony but I guess they are adamant to sticking with a square watch face. If not a circular design, then a curved display like the Gear S from samsung.
IFA feels like it will be the smartwatch show this year with many firms announcing new devices, I am sure Sony's watch will be good but someone will have the top one at IFA, that is until apple announces one. ha

Z3: 8974-AC, new display technology, new software caching enhancements... I'm okay with this .
Z3C: IP68, 3 GB RAM, 720p Display... Dis gon b gud .
E3: Another mid-ranger smartphone, but this one ticks all the right boxes it seems, probably the answer to Moto G/G2, CPU + HD display + RAM are a good combo (especially RAM), hopefully around $250.
Z3TC: Thin, light, same processor and RAM, 8" FHD display (for once I wouldn't be mad about QHD, but never mind)... Shut up and take my money !
PS: Does the Z3C and the Z3TC also have this new software caching enhancements? I would say so.

@detox completely agree with you on the Z3TC, will make a great present this Christmas for a few of my friends and family, I also can't wait for the Z3C, I think this'll be the phone that gets the most attention within the media.
Posted by itsjustJOH
Hopefully it's FHD to keep the price competitively low.
Posted by miromiromi
unfortunately, sony prices only become competitively low months after the initial product availability, when they realize they are unable to sell them with the initial prices they set (in the non-asian market).

The Z3 looks like less of a disappointment than I had thought. But personally I am mainly hoping it will make the Z2 a bit less expensive now..
