WS1 has been announced, but the sensor has not.

If the WS1 is using the curved sensor as sonyalpharumours states, then why hasn't Sony announced this new curved sensor in their WS1 press release or press event? There was a chinese website that had a live blog of the press event and there is a sentence with curved sensor but unknown if this was mentioned by the Sony Rep or just a comment from the website using info that the WS1 was using the curved sensor (alphasonyrumours)
.
It would be rather silly to have a device with a curved sensor announced but no mention of said sensor.

maybe because it means nothing to potential buyers (vain, selfie-obsessed women who don't really care about camera specs)

or

maybe because the curved sensor does not really offer any improvement in image quality.

with the kind of emphasis on the camera's sensor (the transparent rotating part), the are like emphasizing how thin the camera module has become so i suspect it really has the curved sensor.

For me it all depends on the price of the QX1, the type of sensor, APS-C or 1 inch and if it will be the newer sensor with hybird-AF. If it is not up to par, I will get the Alpha 6000 body to replace my nex5n this fall.

Same here. If this has the same sensor as the A6000/A5100 and the price is below the A5100(body only), I will definitely consider it. And defer my replacement purchase of my NEX-5R.

Sensor is aps-c sized according to SAR, which is a good sign. One issue will be the possible lack of bionzx.

Has Sony just teased the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and new Smartwatch?

No more picture frame bezels!

Posted by Tizzo
I can't wait for IFA

Posted by kurtdean
Tablet Z3 compact looks nice and reasonably small bezels

Agreed - it looks great!

Posted by itsjustJOH
I don't know if it's a clumsy job by Sony's marketing team accidentally using a photo with the tablet in Facebook, or they did that on purpose.

Posted by kurtdean
^ It's clearly on purpose How on earth would they accidentally put it on facebook? Doesn't make sense

Sony Marketing has changed dramatically after the world cup

Posted by itsjustJOH
I hope their software team can keep up with the marketing team, though.

Goodbye Sony Tablet S, hello Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact .

Posted by Ricky D
Surely I'm not the only one who feels it looks a tad like the iPad mini

Posted by XperiaCute

One interesting aspect is how far would Sony go with screen resolution ?! perhaps QHD ?!

Posted by Gitaroo
if they are still doing 1080p and S801, this thing better be cheap or just DOA. New nexus 7 from HTC should be coming out at the end of the year and there is no room for that kind of specs for a premium price device.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^Chances are it will be 1080p and SD801, the trouble with going up against the Nexus from Google is their very aggressive pricing. Google make very little money (if any) off each Nexus device sold they hope to make the money by the user buying into Google i.e apps, music, movies that sort of thing and Sony just can't compete with Google when it comes to pricing it's hardware, in fact I can't think of any major brand that could.

By the way more cases for the Z3 on the Baseus website, they now show black, white and a champagne colour. Wonder if Sony will release this colour variant as all other major brands have some kind of gold colour alternative in their flagship range.

The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is as we expected identical to the Tablet Z2 with just the screen size and battery capacity changing according to this post on Android Origin.

The guy with the rablet has a strange smartwatch on his wrist...
Does not look like a Sony SW (LG or Samsung) and not sure about this tablet too

yeah.... better be 350 USD max, or won't stand a chance against new ipad mini or even other 8" tablet. HTC nexus tablet is just around the corner, most likely same spec too.

I think thats the new smartwatch 3. The watch face is similar to the smartwatch 2's. So there's no doubt what that guy is wearing in the photo is smartwatch 3.

Is it me or does the band and the watch seem integrated? Possibility of non-removable bands for SW3?

Posted by Tizzo
@vivftp

I was thinking the same thing, may be they've integrated some extra tech into the band its self.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
I hope not. changeable wrist band is unique feature of Sony SmartWatch 2. Without that option, Smartwatch 3 would look less appealing, at least to me.

Posted by vivftp
Maybe they've got flexible battery tech integrated into the wrist band finally?

Posted by ascariss
Perhaps Sony has combined the smartband and the smartwatch into one?

tablet looks nice, what worries me is the price and possibly the specs as Gitaroo pointed out. The nexus 9 should come with android L, have higher res screen and probably lower price but will lack the water and dustproofing.

Sad thing is, I am beginning to be tempted by the tab s 8.4, to replace my old tab 7.7 from samsung. :/

Posted by Hilmawan
I hope smartwatch 3 incorporates a removable core unit and several different versions of watchface.
So that I can easily change the look of the smartwatch from square or rectangular face into a classic round face.

Well, stupid move by Sony. Introducing an 8 inch tablet to take Z ultra line's place. 8 inch tablet is nice on its own by the way. But retrieving from phablet category when Even Apple is expected to jump in with 5.5 inch iPhone. I sometimes wonder whether Sony has any logical goals.

Addition; why the heck Sony is ignoring android wear when its so obvious that it will be the mainstream product. Seriously why? I just can't see any future with this board of Sony's.

Android wear is still far behind Sony's smartwatch OS,Sony has 500+ apps for it.
On Android wear you still do not have a normal music player control
All what Google Wear can do you can put into a single app that can be instaled on any Android phone.
Already now I use an app on SW2 that activates Google Now (google now launcher),but I have to talk to the phone because SW2 does not have a microphone.

The tablet is not replacing the ZU, it is to compete with the normal 7-8 inch tablets currently on the market, Sony is lacking such a device. If the ZU would ever to be replaced, it would have to have similar specs to the note and other phablets, 5.6-5.8 inches, 6 inches max with thin bezels, otherwise anything larger and it will be dead in the water like the ZU was. That plus lack of pen support and a decent camera/flash combo as well.

Android wear is not proven yet, Sony is either waiting to see how the new batch of devices will do from other companies or doesn't want to use Google's OS since it will mean zero to no customization from their end. Plus I would imagine all the apps written for Sony's OS would need to be rewritten/modified to work on android wear, assuming they would even work.

@pt020, do you use the remote camera shutter app for your xperia on your SW2?

Posted by Felimenta97
Android Wear is going to be a much larger platform by the time it has Sony's own OS age. We have dozens of apps coming up everyday. All notifications work on it by default, and to include further functionality, it's just a matter of a few lines of code inside the app itself.

For SW2 OS, it's a whole new app. Besides, according to rumours, Sony will make a new OS for SW3, which, if they don't work it right, will have allot of work to convert SW2 to SW3 compatible.

And, the market is on Android Wear. The users are on it, the apps will eventually be there. It might be a little better for them, but it will be a lot better for users, because of reasons mentioned above.

Posted by xperiazultra
Yes that is what I meant. Sw os will be irrelevant within a 6 months period. And note 4 is coming with metal chassis. If they work on the software bloats I don't think Sony has a chance against it. I want Sony to be successful. But they're playing all the cards wrong.

Somewhat OT/kinda related(ish) news:

TSMC is ahead of schedule on production of 16nm wafers expected for next year's iPhone

"TSMC is now planning on producing 50,000 wafers a month using its 16nm process during the first quarter of 2015. The wafers were originally scheduled to be produced in the second quarter of next year, and will be employed in the production of the Apple A9."

"Samsung will be taking the reigns back from TSMC in the second half of 2015, with the production of 14nm chips"

Wake up Qualcomm!

C'mon folks, just a week until the IFA conference! Let's get going with more rumours dangit!

Me, I think I might finally get SmartWatch 3 to go with my Z Ultra. Sony might have given up on Z Ultras for now, but I'll hold out hope for another one next year (Come on Z3x!). Not sure what else I'd wanna pick up from the IFA line-up... can't wait to see it though!

Well I am waiting for the Z3x also. IFA seems uninteresting. I wonder what Note 4 will feature and after IFA I'll wait for the 5.5 inch iPhone. Really wondering if they will put on some phablet features or its going to be a plain big iphone.

Nevertheless I'll hold onto my z ultra until Z3X comes out.

Still no full specs especially features for z3,z3c and z3c tablet?

Posted by ascariss
I am all for leaks but I would rather be surprised by the announcements than know everything in advantage.

Posted by goldenface
I already have the Smartband so the new Smartwatch has piqued my interest. The Lifelog app gets some good updates so I'm interested to see where that is heading.

Posted by BenLing

It has 3100mAh battery...

Wow, the design looks real nice! Much more mature compared to the previous Z series.

Posted by XperiaJunkie
Is it a dual sim variant ? in the image 4th from bottom you can see on the right the micro USB port, the SD card slot but on the left is that 2 simcard slots.

That's a pretty big leak, although I'm not convinced Sony's minimalist design does it for me, not on this phone anyway.

It might explain why the port cover on the side is so large.
But I have a bad feeling that this is for Chinese market only...

Posted by XperiaJunkie
^ Have Sony ever done a dual sim flagship ?

Posted by XperiaCute

No hardware improvement, no design change, no software upgrade ! for what bothering release new phone then ?!!

I don't see any sign of an IR blaster

Posted by ascariss
I am sure the imaging software will be improved as it was on the z2 vs z1 so the Z3 will have that going for it, if not then ehh it is dead in the water.

The design actually feels cheaper than the current Z2 and Z1, the sides all black make it less premium, unless this design and colour combo is only for china and the rest of the rest of the world will have a different material for the sides or trim colour, silver or dark gray instead of all black. The leaked z3t tab compact had such a design, the white front but the trim on the side is silverish. Unless that is exclusive to the white version and the black version will have all black design.

But what is strange or perhaps no one checked or sony's new any leak policy is working much better, no photos have leaked of any camera samples.

Btw the tablet photo on sony's facebook page of the new tablet and smartwatch has been removed.

Posted by amirprog
In my opinion the design is very nice. other then that nobody knows much aside of basic spec. i don't think anyone going to the store will exclude z3 just for having s801. its still a mystery what other features it will have. i believe sony will give consumers who want to replace their few years old phone good reasons to favor and buy it over note 4, iphone 6, etc. they must.
