Smaller and smaller bezel is good new for future phones, only problem now is the top and bottom bezel, I know the new eye ball is suppose to save space around all dimension hope that will help.

Vibe Z2 Pro is what Xperia Z ultra 2 should be

yeah but it looks like they are skipping straight to Z3 ultra....

Sony sure did fix the mistake of not having an carrier support in the US. Z3 is coming to two US carriers within 6 to 8 week after announcement.

If it will be 6-8 weeks then ouch, that will put it into October or November, I feel that is a tad late.

For the lenevo, all well and good, the fact it is 7.7 mm and has a dual led flash and a 16MP shooter? The design is nice, thin bezels all around, it seems to mimic some xperia design language but is missing the IP certification. In addition on such a large device, one small tiny speaker on the bottom is not going to cut it. I like the camera software, hopefully it will live up to the video and offer great photos.

Is there a z3 ultra? from what everyone was posting here, the ultra is dead as it stands now, no ultra will be announced at ifa, only z3 line and the small tablet. As for this z3x device, maybe ces, but probably more likely at mwc.

Posted by Xajel
Is there's a possibility that Sony will align the smaller tablet in 1H while the larger tablet in 2H ?

I'm still hoping for Z4 Tablet along with Z4 in 1H15

Posted by ascariss
No idea what they will do but if this is any indication

http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]ce=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

It will probably be shipping this year if it is on the Postel site.

I just checked the FCC, latest device is PY7PM-0382. the confidentiality expires in January 2015, the fcc label is inside the device, with a removable cover, but this is not a tablet, since they are marked differently and this device is labelled as smartphone in the docs. Probably another midrange device.

still remember what is playstation certified?
never mind it's practically dead anyway

http://blog.gsmarena.com/sony-closes-playstation-mobile/

I think it big mistake, Sony should keep develop more games on Android platform. especially casual game from good old PS day as it could possibly link to tablet and Android TV in coming future, Gaikai service probably take lead role here.

Only positive that I can think maybe they want to keep new PlayStation service exclusivity, only Sony devices this time.

And Vita is sort of dead end, barely sufficient battery that almost same as smartphone.
Why people that target for casual game need dedicate device when smartphone can fill the gap?

Posted by -XYZ
I don't think it's a mistake.
PlayStation Mobile was a barely functioning piece of shit.
Better to kill it and try again, with the vastly superior PlayStation Now.

Sorry but I highly disagree on this, I have a Vita slim, and the battery easily gives 5 - 6 hours of heavy gaming. Uncharted Golden abyss a game that pushes the Vita's graphical capability from a full charge takes 5 hours before I get the low battery sign on the Vita.

Running a similar graphic heavy game on a phone, I highly doubt you'd get 5-6 hours of continuous gaming (phones also gets too hot, unlike the Vita), well at least from my experience. On a tablet with a large battery it's possible to play more than 6 hours, but on a phone I don't think so.

Posted by stedus
The Vita is a good device. If you find a good games you will get addicted to it for months (e.g. Toukiden)
Also, the remote play function of the Vita is great. I managed to stream FFXIV from my PS4 to play in my PS Vita.
And guess what? I can even play my PS4 games at my relative's house by just using my PS Vita. Its a good device, but lacking of cheap casual games.

Nothing is wrong with the vita in terms of hardware.
As process nodes shrink and battery tech improves, newer iterations should have fantastic battery life.
The biggest problem is SCEA not supporting it properly, and Sony understocking it, so there aren't enough units available in places where the market has high demand.

I really hope Sony don't just ignore the vita in leu of the PS4. That thing seems to sell itself. It's a fantastic device that needs more support.

This is all way off topic though.....

So that z3 eh? What about that compact model huh?
Seems like there isn't much to talk about unless more is leaked or until September 3rd....

Nope.
At least I hope not.
Probably switching to PSNow.

A little off topic:

Sony Quarterly Securities Report if anyone is interested...

"In the mobile business, Sony plans to add to its flagship Xperia™ lineup in a timely manner and to enrich its
entry-level product lineup to address specific local needs. In addition to Europe and Japan, Sony aims to build strategic
partnerships with network operators in the U.S. and, by introducing models that fully match customer needs, strengthen its presence in the U.S. market. Sony is also reinforcing its monitoring systems to analyze business outlook, including risks
such as sudden changes in the market environment and negative shifts in demand, to help ensure stable operations."

@bronxdude

Where did you see xx.3?

Posted by Tizzo
This is possibly the reason why Sony isn't wasting too many resources on it's second half flagships and focusing more on next years H1 Flagship.

Makes sense to me but I'm not an expert, what do you guys think?

i disagree.

i think it should be more on delivering a distinctive and truly excellent product and spending money on the marketing.

look at the lumia 1020. because it managed to distinguish itself, it is still being talked about. nokia also successfully kept it in the news with the national geographic and other gimmicks.

sony has to come up with a device with no problems and with a killer feature other manufacturers will find difficult to compete with. they already did a great job with the waterproofing in xperia z but they bungled it with the inferior display (that consumed a lot of power).

To be fair, the camera still needs work. Still lacks the true manual control Sony stated in the original Z1 press release.

^ other info from eprice:
http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/4551/178528/1/
z3 colors are black, white, gold and blue.
z3 four corners of the mosaic of special material, drop it absorbs energy to protect the screen. (google translate...)
they also say the known rumors that mp is the same but the CMOS sensor is upgraded, narrowed bezels, etc.

They are the wireless speakers from sony, the silver/grey model.

There are no new products on that photo, all are currents products, qx100, srs-x5/7, Z2, Bravia X95 and X9

Just out of curiosity, what do you think that killer feature might be if we exclude the camera ?

I agree with you, its just that its really hard to disrupt the market right now.. its way to saturated. The camera is something very practical, and it still needs a lot of work to truly replace your compact camera fully..

Most smartphones do the same things.. very little differentiation thanks to Google/Apple/Microsoft its all pretty much streamlined. For a hardware manufacturer like Sony to truly shine it needs its own software so that they can make it do exactly what they need it to do... the PlayStation is a perfect example of that, and it works.. granted, the PS4 OS is not great, but its their own to manipulate fully..

Anyway.. for me such a feature would be 100% waterproof including salt water.. maybe some sort of nano coating ? That would be amazing and it would make me buy that phone. Or .. 5-10 days battery life ? Its has to be something big like that for people to notice.. if they keep adding a few new apps and a new interface it won't work. Even their design work won't have that much of an impact on sales. It needs to be something way more innovative that that.

Yes, the 6 will be a huge success.

Its pretty much the perfect storm.. there are A LOT of 4/4s users that didn't upgrade to 5 which will upgrade to 6. Apple's customer retention is amazing overall so they will loose very few customers to android.

A lot of people who jumped to andro/WP because of the bigger screens will probably come back considering that iOS is still superior to the other two OSs .. for the most part. I know that a lot of you will disagree, but from where I am standing iOS is the best OS on the market at the moment.

First time buyers that are looking for a bigger screen won't need to look elsewhere since Apple will have an offering at both 4.7 and 5+ inches.

They are going to make a killing. Releasing a new high end phone anywhere b/w now and the end of the year is set for a very hard fight against the 6. I just don't think that anyone has the tools to go head to head with Apple at this point.. its kind of sad, but true.

Even I am considering it as a replacement for my beloved Nokia 808 if the camera is "good enough" .. I just know that it won't be as good as the PV device so I am not even hoping.

the killer features for me:

- power efficient display (at least similar to xz2 if they don't plan to go OLED)
- better ruggedization since they don't have plans of trimming down bezels anyway. they can add replaceable rubber bumpers, resistance to saltwater
- night vision camera. a thin camera tech for night vision was already developed. it could be a dual camera setup. they can use two cameras (night vision + normal) and combine the images to achieve better details in low light conditions.
- won't hurt adding a flashlight functionality by making the LED flash more powerful and accessible maybe by holding the volume rocker or camera button. they can put up to 10 LEDs if they like
- they can also put in an array of reconfigurable buttons on one side (along with the power button) for quick access to certain apps or functions (at least to justify those huge bezels). these buttons should look good and be integrated with the overall design but may not have any function if the user so prefers. the phone's design will be reversible since they use on-screen navigation buttons anyway so the side reconfigurable buttons can be convenient for both left and right handed users. just put all the branding at the back.
- huge battery. 8.5 - 9.0 mm thickness isn't that uncomfortable to accommodate a huge battery.
- pogo pins that are not just for charging but for also for USB connections via the dock and for directly powering the phone to be able to use it continuously while getting docked.

basically, i'm wishing for a real james bond phone.this device will be easier to promote. it could even become viral on social media. they can highlight the night vision capabilities in one ad, the ruggedness in another (i assume they will go for another flat design so they can show the phone getting run on by a car without getting damaged), and the intuitiveness with the reconfigurable keys (to quickly open apps like the sound recorder, emergency pre-drafted SMS sending, making calls to a specified emergency number without having to dial anything, etc) that can be for both right and left handed users

they can also develop a killer accessory like a dock with a folding or rolling keyboard, power bank, speakers, and USB ports for plugging in more memory, game controllers, or a bigger standard keyboard to transform the smartphone into a workstation (great for bloggers and journalists!) the dock may also be plugged to an AC power source to charge or directly power the

Z3 and Z3C dimension:

Posted by amirprog
z3 and z3c dimensions:
146.46 x 72.09 x 7.3 mm
126.98 x 64.9 x 8.8 mm
pretty impressive both for z3 and z3c. it makes z3 the slimmest flagship with the most high end internals while height and width also are slightly narrower.

I'm calling it! If those dimensions is accurate on the Z3C it will be the main competitor vs Iphone 6 and the Galaxy Alpha.
I am seriously considering buying a z3c to replace my ZR.

Posted by motvikt
Wow amazing dimensions for z3c
[ This Message was edited by: motvikt on 2014-08-08 12:29 ]

Posted by ascariss
Compact size is the same as current model, which is impressive.

Depending what the Z3c brings to the table, I may grab it as a stopgap for the Z4.

One thing I noticed is the design differences, the z3c has different flap designs than the larger Z3.

Posted by qqqw
So, the screen size is 4.59 inches. While I enjoy my Moto G (almost the same screen size), sometimes I wish I had better internals (more RAM, faster CPU) and definitely a better camera, this phone could indeed be the perfect phone. Fingers crossed...

Honestly amazing dimensions if true
This will majority approximately bezel less sides

Posted by cu015170
@miromiromi nice list I like the flashlight idea.. my 808 turns on the flash light by holding down the lock switch by default.. I will miss that feature a lot once I switch.

The bigger battery.. its going to come down to weight, not thickness. Looking at the dimensions of the Z3, there is plenty of room to fit a 4000mah battery if they increase the thickness by .2 , but it will be really heavy...

Do we have any info on what capacity the batteries will be in both devices and if I'm not mistaken is there going to be a new extreme stamina mode?

If i'm not mistaken the new extreme stamina mode is pretty similar like Xperia A2 Emergency Power Saving Mode.
